I was told that the magical hand of the free market will solve all the climate change problems. Any moment now!
Sadly, it will be invisible though until after the first 2 or 3 billion face famine at the earliest. Cuz, ya know .... gas prices are $3.60 instead of $3.40 a gallon.
How much more Mars-like does it have to get before the mainstream media even utters the words "climate change" ?
I don't feel great right now. I live in an area affected by the smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Global warming is real.
It sucks when it's both very warm and very smoky (especially if you don't have AC). If only those Canadians would rake their forests better!
Is that Nueva Jork? We had an orange sky day out here by the bay a few years ago. So disturbing - everything felt off, like the world was ending and we were just pretending it wasn't and going through the motions of our regular day.
A few years ago we were in the 300s for air quality for a few days and I couldn't see more than a few houses down the street. It was nasty stuff.
The orange sky day was different - the smoke was way up high so it wasn't really affecting breathing, but it changed the color of everything. Disturbing in a different way - not the kind of "holy shit, I can't breathe" which we have seen plenty over the last few years, but rather "why does the world look like Hell today?" When the smoke is down low, those are the days I close all the windows and be grateful I have a house with AC.
I don't ever remember it being quite that bad, but growing up in metro LA, there certainly were days when the fires and smog browned/oranged the sky. And I'm talking 30 years ago.
I remember it well. I'm just thankful we've avoided the massive early season problems in the PNW. A few here and there, but as we know, only a matter of time.
I bought a big box of N95’s not long after that. But we’ve been lucky around here the last couple years and have barely used them (and didn’t usually bother with them for Covid). I’m sure our turn will come again!
150s are really common in the Great Basin along the Wasatch Front. I take it easy on those days, but it gets weary after a week. 300 is BRUTAL!!!
@Knave convinced me to get some HEPA filters for my bedrooms. We’ll bring them into the rooms we are working during the day, and back into the bedrooms at night.
Did anyone visit Bangkok back in the day? That place was brutal with general pollution, forest fires etc
Yah, went well past 400 in New York City yesterday. Here is a random day versus yesterday comparison. Yum:
it does, though the eyes still burn if you’re out in it too long. Are they canceling sporting events for this yet? Or closing schools?
