Since he’s been inserted as starter, in MLS play they have 4 wins and 3 losses. Keep in mind they had only 2 wins prior to becoming a starter. Since then, 4 wins in 7 games. Of the losses 2 were on the road at Philadelphia and Columbus. The home loss was to Nashville. All of those losses are understandable. Prior to Meram Charlotte had used a variety of formations trying to find their groove. Since he was inserted as a starter they have played 4-4-2 in his first game, and 4-3-3 in every game after that and it’s working. I can’t say they have better players…their record, goals for, and goals against are virtually identical to RSL’s. I CAN say that he has been the catalyst to Charlotte’s apparent reversal of fortune. Maybe they have better players and he is helping them show it?
3 former RSL players in the starting lineup for the Birmingham Legion in the USOC quarterfinals (though does Enzo Martinez really count for this thread?). TONIGHT'S XI.#HammerDown | #USOC2023 pic.twitter.com/eWjA0auSRx— Birmingham Legion FC (@bhmlegion) June 7, 2023 Moses Mensah is on the bench for them as well, who was drafted by RSL in the 2023 draft but didn't make the team.
I made the joke already elsewhere: Messi chose Miami because he wanted to be coached by the Argentinian legend Javier Morales.
Former RSL player Alvin Jones (2020, outside back who appeared in one game in the MLS Is Back tournament) scored for Trinidad and Tobago today against St. Kitts and Nevis. It was his first goal since scoring a ridiculous bomb to prevent the US from qualifying for the 2018 World Cup. He played in the USL for a bit and now as a pro in T&T.
Javi's stint as interim manager in Miami looks brutal. Winless since he took over, and looking absolutely inept in most phases of the game. But that's about par for the course for Miami over the past two months, and their losing streak is up to seven straight.
If Javi is cut loose, rsl would be dumb not to go offer him a job in the club. Go be an assistant to Olave or something
Looks like Menendez to Ares is a thing https://www.rsl.com/news/real-salt-lake-and-joni-menendez-mutually-terminate-contract
Just when it looked like Sebastian Soto's career was going to land on solid footing, he comes with an injury that apparently requires surgery. reading the match report from SK Klagenfurt's friendly today for any mention of 🇺🇸 Sebastian Soto and.. turns out he just had back or neck surgery 😶https://t.co/8iOmXENJQJ pic.twitter.com/zMNllAFfvk— 🇺🇸 ⚽ east (@eastdeflection) July 19, 2023 No word on a timetable but this doesn't look like a short recovery time. Have to wonder if his European career is going to survive this.
Watching the Leagues Cup opener between Miami and Cruz Azul and what do you know, Carlos Salcedo starting for Cruz Azul. Also Miami's defense is horrific.
LOL at Carlos He’s Dead To Me still arguing with the referee 5 minutes after the game has ended. The way this ended is fantastic.
Still hasn't scored more than Rubin in MLS... I think his chances go down in the long term, they just traded away Gressel. Columbus just got a lot better.
