There’s definitely a plan .. it apparently rests on our ability to get rid of the deadwood .. Messi can’t sign until that happens .. Supposedly the other offers are pushing him to make a quick decision which seems unlikely ..,
It would also be in our best interest to not let this Messi thing drag on for too long. It takes our attention away from what needs to be done for us to remain competitive in the league but also in the CL.
Cause no one wants a drawn out transfer saga. It’s not in our best interest right now. We need to focus on what we CAN do. The problem with a drawn out situation is that we could end up empty-handed and all our efforts, energy and attention could have been spent elsewhere. Mbappe’s situation with RM is a case in point. Plus, Messi doesn’t come cheap, so it’s also good to know early on what we can spend and what we can’t. The sooner we know the better. Edit: @celito could you transfer this to the transfer thread. Just saw in which thread we were having this convo.
Disappointing that a guy who is still arguably the best player in the world joins a minor league. He still has 2-3 more years at a high level. Sad that the Barca move wasn't viable. But hey at least it's not Saudi Arabia.. And he might break some records in the MLS. And we get to focus on rebuilding with young players.
But which European clubs can take him??? Barca don't have any plan to take Messi. Rich club like City don't show interest. Other clubs simply can not offer Messi's wages (even if he lowers it). He can play at highest level till he is 40 but it is what it is. Winning World Cup is like the final task and he may feel sastified.
Sad but exited at the same time, definitely going to follow MLS more. When was the last time that world's best player didn't play in Europe? When Pele played in Brazil in the 60's?
It will be interesting to see his reaction if he DOESN’T win this years Balon D’or after being the massive favourite before this news broke !!
CR7 five months ago. j/k. Interesting question, but obviously subjective at the same time. But I'll point out that Beckenbauer went to play in the US in the late-70s a year or so after winning the Ballon d'Or. Johan Cruyff also moved there around the same time straight from Barca when he was still in his twenties. This was before Platini hit his prime so an argument could be made for them being the best.
So the Laporta - Messi relation is very broken I mean President Laporta understood and respected Messi's decision to compete in a championship with fewer demands and farther away from the spotlight and the pressure he has been under in recent years.
Laporta sounds salty. He already used Messi once for politics, and this probably was going to be like another "we tried" at the end.
Useless debate (it ended in 2009). https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/lio...naldo-scientific-research/bltbc57ff913a4e5304
