Taylor Booth at FC Utrecht

  1. The Dutch paper Telegraaf (which has a close relation with Ajax) wrote in March that both Ajax and PSV were keeping an eye on hisdevelopment.(use google translate if interested)

Always depends what someone means by "big" club - but from what I've seen + Dutch football press reaction, I'm sure Utrecht is getting inquiries. Whether they're from the right people for the right money, I got no idea.

Im sure they are. Doesn’t mean it’ll come off if he goes to a bigger club. It often doesn't. I’m don’t consider myself a believer at this point. This season was very start/stop and kind of hit/miss for Taylor.

  4. I wonder how his development would look like if he was this season under the rigour of the Feyenoord training and behaviour methods.
My guess would be that he would be physically much stronger and fitter.

I got one foot in the boat, one on the shore. Aside from that spate of early games on the bench, Booth played in just about every match he we available for and started most. 2 G, 4 A over 5 games is fine, but not golden boot stuff. Runner up youth player of the year on this Utrecht. Fine, but also not golden boot stuff. So I'd say this season showed he can at least hold his own as a starter beyond the German Regional league, but it's a pretty small sample to make grand pronouncements about. I think another season at Utrecht will be good for him - and my guess is that's where he ends up (I think he's got 2 more years on his contract? just going off memory so that could be wrong) but if they get a decent offer they may take the cash. My guess is if not this season, very soon we will get to see if he can cut it at a "bigger" club/league.

Personally, I think it would be good for him to stay, lock down a starting position, and show season long contribution.

Agreed. Utrecht is a stable and decent club. They haven't finished below 7th in the Eredivisie for the last 8 seasons, and haven't ever been relegated from the top division in their history (since 1970, when 3 clubs merged to form FC Utrecht). They also have never finished above 4th...so, Taylor Booth, get it done!

I think he should shoot for the stars and go to the biggest club that wants to actually play him

Of course another Bayern situation (where he doesnt play) would be a disaster - but I am not of the opinion that he couldn;t follow the Mckennie model and jump directly to a big club and find success.....I wouldnt bet against him.

he had a better season than Luca de la Torre did imo and LDLT did fine jumping to La Liga fwiw

Depends on your definition of "contribution" but he certainly locked down a starting position this year. Fans were bummed he was not available for the 1st Sparta leg and had he not had an issue that kept him out of that game, I'd expect he starts the return. He for sure could have posted better offensive stats, but after his start on 10/16 Booth only missed 2 league games and 1 play-off due to injury/illness, 1 other he was not in the squad with no explanation, and 2 he DNP on the bench. He had 20 league starts, 18 of them came in the 20 games after 10/16. He also started every Cup game he was healthy for (missed the last one with injury) Not that another season wouldn't be great, but with 31 apps, 23 starts (+ 3 in the Eerste w/ JongU) and over 2k total mins played he was one of the 1st choice midfielders for Utrecht this season.

Yeah he is young enough, and his resume is short enough that staying another year and establishing himself at Utrecht is not a bad option at all. However, if a stable club in a bigger league is ready to give him a higher salary and a real chance at playing time, then it would be foolish to stay.

Fair. But yes, I think it would be great to show more production over the course of the season for a player like Booth. He is a starter, and that is half the equation, now show some season long production in goals and assists. What was it, 2 and 5? Also, granted this does depend on the success, when you have a year really producing that can really help development rather than stepping up and struggling to get minutes somewhere. Although, as @feyenoordsoccerfan point out, maybe a smaller step up, to a bigger team in the Eredivisie would be helpful.

totally agree about offensive production. Good season for his first "big league" Dutch season. Not a "certain to be huge" season. Potential - yes. Proof - not yet.

I agree with this. I like this guy’s game, I hope it translates to a higher league. His crosses are so good.

We need to get Pedro Cerrano to do a voodoo offering for our players.

This is kind of a weird one, but ESPN claims that Taylor Booth is one of the options Man Untied are looking at if the Mason Mount deal collapses: https://www.espn.co.uk/football/sto...r-new-targets-mason-mount-deal-stalls-sources

Manchester United are considering other midfield targets because of fears that negotiations with Chelsea for Mason Mount are stalling, sources told ESPN....

Sources have told ESPN that United's latest offer for Mount remains on the table, but enquiries have been about the availability of other targets, including Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo, Ajax's Mohammed Kudus and Taylor Booth at FC Utrecht.

This seems like posturing by Man U. They aren't that far apart on price on Mount and I think they are trying to take advantage of Chelsea wanting to get this deal done by June 30 as then the sale price applies to this past years financial accounts for financial fair play purposes.

Man U seems like too much of jump for Booth at this point.

Doesn't surprise me about Celta Vigo as Luca's first season there went really well, Luca came from the Dutch side Heracles Almelo so Celta probably have a good idea about Booths ability to play in La Liga.

Lyon would actually be good for Booth.

I don't think he really needs to move this summer tho.

Yeah I want to see him, and almost any player go to a club that’s above average in its league and makes him a priority signing. He’d be a speculative buy for United, and I think the lack of talent around him at stuttgart or Celt’s Vigo could hinder his performance.

I think he needs to show even better over the course of a whole season in the Eredivisie before he moves on.

These links to Top 5 leagues seems like they are getting ahead of themselves to me.

Celta Vigo is a pretty strong club, usually finishing between 8-15 in La liga. Not sure what you mean about their lack of talent as they havn't been regulated in a long time from La Liga

In the last 5 years, they’ve finished 17th, 17th, 8th, 11th, and 13th. They’re not horrible or anything, but theyve flirted with relegation multiple times in recent years. they’re also not an ideal place for a young attacking player to stand out and look for a move to a bigger club.
