League mandates have pushed things along many times over the years. The Quakes were the last team (of those existing at the time) to get an academy going. Why did they finally do it? League mandate.

I think the only hope for the A's is if some potential owner like Joe Lacob goes to MLB with this sort of idea...

Casey acts like he’s stumbled upon some great idea but it boils down to Fisher selling the A’s and putting an expansion team in Vegas. People have been proposing that for a long time already.

Yeah and I think fundamentally Manfred doesn’t want that to happen though of course he’d never say it publicly. He’s quite content to get MLB out of Oakland.

As I've been saying I think the A's are prepared to accept less than $380M. They are in the negotiating stage at this point I think. There will be some churn, some people in the bay area might engage in some schadenfraude (and it would be warrented) and then they'll magically agree to a number like $280M or something.

You don’t think that the A’s will end up staying in Oakland? :(

No, I wish they would but not hopeful. Probably the best chance for it to happen would be if Fish says screw it and sells the team.

Well, it certainly looks like Fisher’s brain-trust obeyed the first part of what he said with the Nevada legislature. ;)

Although I also wish he would sell both the A's and the Quakes, I don't think Fisher will sell either team unless he is forced to.

I never saw the film Moneyball.

I read the picture received six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor (Brad Pitt), Best Supporting Actor , Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound Mixing and Best Film Editing.

I also read it grossed $110 million from a budget of $50 mil.

I listened to Art Howe in an interview on KNBR and he was ready to sue for his portrayal by Philip Seymour Hoffman.

I don’t know if he ever did sue but he stated that he was unhappy with his portrayal in both the film and the Michael Lewis book in which Howe was portrayed as a stubborn traditionalist who refused to follow Billy Beane's plans.

I know Doyle had Beane removed from the Quakes office and don't know what happened after that.

Not sure if Beane was involved with Doyle's firing or not but I think along with Kaval, he may have had a hand in it out of spite as was a Spurs fan and wanted to show he knew soccer as well.

the miracle of 'Moneyball' was that Billy Beane found a way to string together a 20-game winning streak (not so unlike some of those amazing Matias Almeyda unbeaten streaks ;))...while operating on a pitiful, John Fisher imposed small team budget. That's what makes Frank Yallop's 2012 Supporter's Shield run seem almost Herculean...the odds are damn near impossible...and yet, these heroes found a way, despite John Fisher. absolutely incredible and borderline miraculous.

I would love to have Philip Seymour Hoffman portray me in a film, in any way he likes. Alas. :)

Well you have to give John Doyle credit too. He assembled the team. Baca, Lenny, Gordon, Wondo, Chavez, Dawkins, Beita, Morrow, Muma, etc. All Doyle signings. Just shows what you can do when you're smart. Unfortunately, Doyle often wasn't smart. He just had a really good run there.

I think that's right, Doyle deserves some credit too for that one miracle season in SJ. trouble with waiting for that genius to come along though, you're more likely to see your team moved to Vegas or someplace in the meantime. 2012 was an anomaly.

I heard that Doyle told Fisher or Wolff, to get Beane out of the Quakes office and have him worry about the A's who were at the time playing like crap.
