Liverpool FC will return to Singapore for their pre-season tour this summer, after a hugely successful visit last year. The Reds will face Leicester City and Bayern Munich as part of the Singapore Festival of Football. First up will be Leicester at the National Stadium in Singapore on Sunday July 30, when LFC will defend the Standard Chartered Singapore Trophy that they won against Crystal Palace on last year’s pre-season tour. That will be followed three days later, on Wednesday August 2, with a clash with Bayern at the same venue. The winner will walk away with the Singapore Trophy, presented by Audi and Standard Chartered Bank. Jürgen Klopp’s squad will take part in an open training session for fans at the National Stadium in Singapore on Saturday July 29. The club will also take an active part in a number of key local community projects and cultural activities while in Singapore. https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/lf...and-bayern-munich-return-singapore-pre-season
The 2023-24 season will kick off on Saturday, August 12th, so there will be more matches added to the pre-season list closer to home upon their return from Singapore. https://liverpooloffside.sbnation.c...singapore-leicester-city-bayern-munich-summer
I suspect Klopp will want to arrive in Singapore the day before that first match and be out of there straight after the second match. Klopp admitted that the club screwed up preseason last summer. I think Klopp will want all his signings done early, and then want all the players together for and extended training camp without all of the travel.
yeah but that travel will be balanced out -- the players won't be killing themselves in training trying to keep up with Millie any more.
Liverpool have confirmed they will play Karlsruher SC on Wednesday, July 19, kicking off at 5.30pm BST to open the 2.Bundesliga side’s BBBank Wildpark. The next game will be played behind closed doors against 2.Bundesliga club SpVgg Greuther Furth on Monday, July 24 at 12pm BST. Pre-season begins – AXA Training Centre – July 8 Internationals return – AXA Training Centre – July 11 Karlsruher SC – Germany – July 19 SpVgg Greuther Furth – Germany – July 24 Leicester – Singapore – July 30 Bayern Munich – Singapore – August 2 TBC – England – August 7
this preseason will be more interesting than usual due to the (please god!!) high number of new starters in the squad.
The schedule means all of our players should have at least three weeks fully off during the break. Would have been better if the internationals were being played now instead of mid-june to make it three consecutive weeks, but it's better than nothing. UEFA should have a "Championship Week" with the Conference Final on Tuesday, Europa Final Thursday, and CL final Saturday. Talk about attention grabbing.
Because this makes sense and it hasn’t been done, it means that someone or enough someones never received their envelopes. Or has yet to receive them.
Maybe it would be just too much hobnobbing to squeeze into one week? Wouldn't want the powers that be at FIFA and UEFA to risk burn-out?
Six Liverpool legends will be involved in the club's activities when the Reds visit Singapore on their pre-season tour next month. John Aldridge, John Barnes, Lucas Leiva, Gary McAllister*, Ian Rush and Martin Skrtel will travel alongside Jürgen Klopp’s team, meeting supporters and participating in special events during the trip, which forms part of the Singapore Festival of Football. * he's just planning to sneak into the team by impersonating the new guy.
and so it begins. next few games ..... Two games will be played against German clubs Karlsruher SC and Greuther Furth on July 19 and 24, and Leicester City on July 30. Both German clubs belong to 2. Bundesliga - the second division of German professional football. The game against Karlsruher, who finished seventh in the league last year, will be played at BBBank Wildpark, the home ground of the opponent. Liverpool will face Greuther Furth behind closed doors in a friendly. Liverpool’s preseason tour will see them travel to Singapore, where they face Leicester City at the Singapore National Stadium. And they face Bayern Munich at the same location next month on August 2.
Players report for training on Saturday the 8th. We've 15 players who will be arriving late on various dates thanks to the June internationals in order to give every player a minimum of two consecutive weeks of rest. 2 players - CuJo and Harvey - will be unlikely to join until the 22nd or so given their U21 commitments which continue through this weekend.
Most had more than that cumulatively. Between our last match and international callups a lot of players had 2 weeks. And a good number have had another 2-3 weeks. All things considered, this is the most rest they've had in a while in non-pandemic times. And add in our two most important signings being in training from the start, things are shaping up nicely.
you'll love this, about Trent ..... The 24-year-old gave himself one week of holiday after representing England and has instead been immersed in an intense training camp, focusing on his speed and endurance. This is the second time Alexander-Arnold has done something like this as the Liverpudlian opted not to go on holiday during the international break in March after being overlooked by Gareth Southgate for the England squad. Instead, the defender did extra work at Liverpool’s training ground, which brought about good results.
Midfielder Thiago Alcantara is undergoing the final stages of his rehabilitation from hip surgery after returning to Liverpool for pre-season. The Spaniard joined his teammates who had also not been involved in international games over the summer in reporting to the AXA Training Centre on Saturday. But it was noticed that he did not take part in the lactate fitness test that is a hallmark of the first day of pre-season under Jurgen Klopp. That had led to speculation regarding a potential fitness setback, or that Thiago might be on the brink of securing a move away from Anfield amid doubts over his future. However, This Is Anfield understands that the 32-year-old’s absence was simply down to him following an individualised programme aimed at readying him for the new season. And he remains on track to be fully for the start of the 2023/24 campaign, whether that be as a Liverpool player or otherwise. Thiago‘s future is up in the air amid reported interest in his signature from Turkish giants Fenerbahce and a host of Saudi Arabian clubs. For their part, Liverpool are happy to allow the midfielder to see out the one remaining year of his contract before departing on a free transfer.
