Today feels like we shifted back to the past with the U20 team getting bounced in the same round and LAFC just looking awful playing against a Liga MX team. Sometimes I think the soccer gods don't like us.
You are 100% correct! Both games were crap. Although I don't put too much importance in youth national team tournaments, the USYNT team seemed like they were reverting backwards against Uruguay. The LAFC -Leon game was also lackluster at best and they deserved to lose both legs. Steve Cherundolo blamed the result on MLS scheduling but it seemed to me that compared to Leon anyway, LA lacked loads of talent to win
Cherundolo asked MLS HQ to specifically move our Houston Dynamo vs. LAFC match from April to a later date in this season so he could have more time off to play Philly. So in the Cup Final as a two leg affair, his team played Leon away on midweek and then home last night. I guess Coach Cherundolo used his get a game moved monopoly card on the Philadelphia leg and apparently getting that first favor from MLS HQ, to even get to the Grand Final is lost on him. Can't get everything you want in life Coach!
Honestly, the owners over time and multiple alphabet leagues over time are what they are. That name and moniker however do carry a special place for many of us Gen X soccer fans. I draw a straight line between Lamar Hunt and his millions he and others planted that seed in American sports culture so that association football was gifted to us kids there in the 70's and 80s. Which as all know, that 2002 World Cup squad is the best our soccer culture has given back to the planet. PS: God bless Mrs. Lamar Hunt. She witnessed her husband pour millions into pro soccer just so the beautiful game would cultivate in our nation as Lamar Hunt always knew it should become.
The original NASL Cosmos badge didn't say "New York" so that's an NASL 2 logo ... it is also close to the Cyclones stadium like Egbert mentioned where they played from time to time
