Yes. He could have in theory been called up (He is younger than Aarons and Gibbs - White so wouldn’t have been the eldest.)
I wonder if hes been asked? It might be good for him. edit Just looked it up on wiki. Hes never played for the U21s. He went straight into the first team.
Other than France none of the other teams are anything to fear. We have one of the strongest squads no doubt
Italy are going to be good. They have some very experienced players for this level and a number of players with senior caps.
Slightly surprising, still think Sancho should be in the squad, its hardly like it can see it as dropping down he hasn't made a senior squad for ages. Most teams will have 2 or 3 players with senior caps in their squad, looks like England will just have Smith-Rowe (whos coming off the back of a season having played less than 200 first team minutes)
Yeah, it’s a strange one with Sancho because he’s now in International purgatory! This is on the FA and Southgate, they have set up this situation where players like Sancho, deemed too good for U21’s but not good enough for the seniors! However they must be happy with this situation which seems bizarre to me! I just wish journalists would ask these questions so we can understand their reasoning.
The 2015 and 2021 teams who reached the final were better, the 2015 team should have won that tbh. Of course if players like Antonio Silva, Nuno Mendes, Gonçalo Inácio, Gonçalo Ramos and Vitinha were here it would be different, but it's the same for Spain, England, France, and so on. Having said that beside Belgium and Netherlands being tough opponents, first game against Georgia who plays at home and they will bring Kvaratskhelia!! Don't know if one player can make the difference, hope not because this tournament gives the chance to qualify for the Olympics, but then again during the Olympics the clubs don't allow your best players to go so it becames pointless to dream about medals.
His inclusion might benefit the Under 21s but would it be good for Jadon Sancho? I've heard people say it will put him back in the spotlight and boost his confidence, which seems to be clutching at straws, considering he's been scoring goals (albeit irregularly) in front of 70,000 at Old Trafford. How much more of a spur do you need? Forget the 21s, I'd suggest Jadon has a career to rescue here. If he can't rediscover the spark in pre-season that earmarked him as a major talent and if United start looking to find a replacement early doors, then we might not see him playing for a top tier team again, let alone the England national team. Ten Hag has to handle him really carefully right now.
Hopefully not at the expense of Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. He could be England's breakthrough star of next season.
Because his career at United could be over by September if he doesn't rapidly prove to Ten Hag, on the training ground and in pre-season, that he can take it up a level. He could perform brilliantly with the Under 21s, but if he then spends next season warming the bench at his club side, it's goodbye Euro24.
Squad are in training. In the pics released Elliott, Branthwaite, Madueke, Smith Rowe, Aarons, Cresswell, Skipp, Colwill, Thomas, Patterson, Griffiths, Rushworth and Trafford are there.
And if he went to the U21 euros he would have likely missed some of pre season. Man United’s first pre season match is on July 12th. The Euros final is July 8th.
Moise Kean has withdrawn from their Squad, apparently due to not being interested in playing at the tournament. Niccolo Pierozzi has also withdrawn. Riccardo Calafiori and Raoul Bellanova seem to have been added.
Iling-Junior would be an odd call up. Obviously talented but the FA don’t usually reward players who have recently rejected a call up. If he was in a run of great club form then I could see the logic. Seems a bit premature. One that could probably have been left until the next cycle.
