I can't say I've seen all of them play but it doesn't look like a particularly impressive squad that. Compared to previous years anyway. The midfield is good though.
On paper I'd expect us to strongly compete but our record in this tournament is so poor I can only imagine how we will mess it up. Looking back our 2011 and 2019 squads were probably the best ones we've taken to tournaments recently and both crashed out at the group stage, whereas the 2017 team is probably the weakest on paper and were penalties from the final (albeit in, what is looking back, a low talent tournament all round - only Gnabry from the winning Germany squad really kicked on).
2017 the draw really opened up for us. Easier group and if you top it you make the semi-finals. Hard to gauge past performances in a lot of ways. Genuine feeling of self sabotage at times with coaching decisions. 2019 under Boothroyd was some of the worst coaching I’ve seen at a tournament. This tournament has that tournament anxiety that is not truly present at other youth tournaments. Probably because it’s the one most respected by majority viewers in England (timing of tournament and TV rights plays its part there). So, it’s always an experience in that respect.
I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere by the FA but we're playing Japan in a pre-tournament friendly on June 10th.
You're right: The match against the U-22 England national team will be held in a completely private format, including the media, at the request of the English Football Association (The FA), the host of the match.
😎 Let the summer begin. #U21EURO pic.twitter.com/IoAreEb71D— Royal Belgian FA (@RoyalBelgianFA) June 2, 2023 A few options would be dropping down from the recent senior squad if they do go to this tournament.

Lot of quality in that France squad, as usual. At least Norway haven't called up Haaland, so tournament will remain fair.
Rico Lewis must be one of the youngest English players ever named in a FA cup final match day squad. He is a few days younger than what Rashford was when he started the 2016 final.
Italy have gone very very strong. Sandro Tonali arguably the best player attending the tournament, not sure why he's here to be honest.
I think that is eight options that have already been called up to Italy’s seniors. With them doing well at the U20 WC and now boosting their U21’s they are probably trying to work on a positive narrative after some recent critique of their senior squads. Moise Kean went to the 2019 U21 Euro, skipped the 2021 Euro but is back for the 2023 Euro. Ryan Sessegnon was close to making three in a row for us. This is setting up to be a very strong tournament.
Also probably trying to promote the players so their get playing time home or abroad as their league figures are only slightly better than English players.
