Yeah Sousa has been eligible since he was about 14/15 I think (Normally 6 years after arrival - apparently it might soon go up to 8 or 9 years which could affect players like Ibragimov at Man United who are not yet eligible.
Tend to agree. I'm sure the hope is that we'll build up a relationship and persuade the player to get the passport and stick with us, but has that actually happened with anyone?
Not that I can think of. I'd expect it to happen with Amir Ibragimov in the next couple of years though. A bit of a different case to Sousa mind.
Are we sure Sousa is the actual preferred option in that role? It seemed to be a shared role by a few options in the younger ages. Nobody really seems to have taken it as their own in this age group. Similar to Ronaldo Vieira who was brought in for friendlies but never showed the prolonged progression to make squads when games then became competitive.
Maybe Joel Ndala as well but again I think there might different circumstances there (As I don’t think he arrived as as EU citsen due to lack of reports of any links to any attempts by them to poach him.)
Ndala case has always been vague. I think he joined Port Vale around 2014 and left for Man City in 2016. So he was around 8 when he was with a pro club. https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/joel-ndala-man-city-vale-8301308.amp
In which case he could be eligible for a passport now even if he did arrive as refugee (Quite a few refugees from the Congo) or spent some time illegally living in the UK.

Do you reckon he will be eligible for 19s qualifiers in the autumn or do you think he’ll stay with the 18s?
Understand Adrian Blake has just signed contract to become new Utrecht player, joining as free agent from Watford. 🏴Utrecht beaten off competition from Premier League clubs. Chelsea wanted him last season (So just compensation) but he signed his scholarship with Everton instead. He will likely be the one od youngest in the under 19’s as he has only just turned 17.
Harrison Parker will leave Man United and join Man City very soon, as called two weeks ago. 🔵✨ #MCFC https://t.co/sKwl7LBgpr— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) July 22, 2023
Not sure where to put this as I’m unsure whether he would be released for the U17 WC. Lewis Miley has been Newcastle's best player so far. And that isn't in the context of him only being 17 years old. He's just simply been their best player. So elegant on the ball & brave in how he uses it #nufc— Craig Hope (@CraigHope_DM) July 27, 2023
I suspect it depends on how much involvement he has for Newcastle’s first team by then. If he hasn’t had a minute before then they might release him.
