Utrecht has reportedly put a 10 mill E price on Douvakis, 23 yo Dutch scoring leader. Xavi supposedly has a 12 mill E recall clause by PSV - but 30 mill has been suggested as an Arsenal offer.... 'veen van Hooijdonk (23 also) is supposedly going to get sold by Bologna this summer as well (he's on loan) but I haven't seen any price at all... But if Douvakis is really going for 10, which seems cheap, that suggests that Pepi/Augsburg might not get what they hope. I still would not be surprised to see him in the Bund after a "summer of love."

They will be able to, but this isn't the 1960s. If Pepi (or any other player) says "no, I'm going to Feyenoord/PSV. Period" those clubs will lose interest pretty quickly. Then it's a game of chicken between the player and his parent club.

No club wants a seriously disgruntled player in the dressing room and the buying side(s) will always know it. Augsburg want as much cash as they can get and a buyout clause that can offer them a chance of recouping their losses, aka a fig leaf.

Yeah, definitely. The transfer window hasn't even opened yet though so maybe some audibles will be called along the way by Pepi's team.

Is it known who owns Pepi's transfer rights? Is it Augsburg or David Blitzer (Bolt Football Holdings)?

Distinction without a difference. Augsburg own Pepi's transfer rights outright de jure but if Blitzer controls Augsburg/has them over a barrel, he owns Pepi de facto.

    They certainly want him.

Would be a good fit. Club size and level. UCL. And they would be considerably invested in him.

I had forgotten Te Kloese had previously served as Mexico's youth national team director (and then later the director for all Mexican national teams). He notes that he had pursued Pepi for Mexico in that role previously. Anywhere, here's the full quote for whether Feyenoord will purchase Pepi (using Google Translate, so please feel free to correct if they got it wrong):

"Pepi is an interesting player, just like Nakamura. But Augsburg once paid more than 16 million euros for him. They want to see a lot of that money when they are sold and we cannot and do not want to pay that," says Te Kloese.

"I spoke to that club once and I understand their idea. But we have Santiago Giménez and Danilo. I don't think it is smart to get an extra striker who should cost more than Giménez, our top scorer. In short: very difficult story."

That’s certainly believable, but it could just be posturing. Do you expect gimenez to be sold this summer? I will say that it doesn’t make sense to spend a lot on Pepi to come in as a backup.

  11. Te Kloese afaik has said alot of interest, but no offers. Anyway Gimenéz has said his heart and head tell him to stay, as his father says too it's better to stay. At the same time if a club comes with a seriously stupid offer, over 40 million or so, what do you say as Feyenoord?

I'm still thinking PSV withe Earnie Stewart. Weird that Te Kloese and Stewart are Dutch rivals after being sort of rivals with Mexico and the US. Well Te Kloese has his Mexican forward so Earnie .....

"In short: very difficult story" translates as Te Kloese messaging Augsburg:
"we're definitely interested, but not at your crazy prices and we know that he wants out and that you've realized that he's the wrong player for your needs. The ball's in your court, not ours."

$40M is a pocket change for a good striker in EPL.

It's true but I hope he doesn't go there yet or he will have another year like he did at Augsburg. No forward pops out at 18-20 at Real, ManCity, PSG or even their lesser kindred. Lewandowski and Haaland even had to work their way up. Pepi needs to choose a level that challenges him but doesn't snuff him out.

Sell. Gimenez is a legit talent, but 40 mill for North American players is a lot, and while I think Gimenez produces an even better season next year I imagine his sale price is more likely to be in that 15-30 zone pending how things play out this next season, but 40 mill is a belief that he can be a 20 goal guy, to me anyway, and I'm not sure he's that in a big 5 league. Still seems like a short double digit guy (10-15, maybe a little more), and that doesn't get you close to 40, usually anyway and he's a good bit older than Pepi too which makes him a touch less valuable (but not that much less).

I think if anyone offered 20-30 mill and up you sell if your Feyenoord (particularly if its 25+). Your making potentially 4-8x as much as you paid, at 40 mill its largely 10x.

PSV is in the third qualifying round from what i can see and that would mean they'd have to beat I think two separate teams in qualifiers to make CL, but regardless, that's pretty cool. Pepi will be in Europe next year if he goes with PSV.

I've been predicting them because of Stewart. It is the silly season though. Why I heard Messi was going to some American swamp.

It applies to him too. If he goes to England now I see shades of Altidore there. Too big a jump.
