Me too. What’s an opponent going to do? Hey…. That dude has a hammy issue, I’m gonna make him run more!
Good news! With tonight's results the Rapids are officially leading in the race for the Wooden Spoon!
Well, if you saw it last night, Ted Lasso is available..... R p.s. I actually like Robin as our coach for the foreseeable future
Not where I expected to see spoilers, but thanks for that. (I haven't started season 3 but If I'm honest, I'm not shocked that's where Ted ends up. Still though.)
Burgundy Wave asked the Rapids for comment about the report on the facilities: https://burgundywave.com/2023/06/01/mls-colorado-rapids-facility-renovations/
What’s even crazier is that even with how horrendous we’ve been this year, all the injuries, drama, etc etc etc, We’re still only 6 points out of the 9th place playoff spot, and only 7 points out of tying for 7th (last years cutoff). Obviously we’re not expecting the club to make that climb given our current situation, but it’s still crazy to think that it’s really not a statistically insurmountable hill to climb in 18 games. Crazy.
Except, it really is. It looks small, but when you consider not only do you need to find those 6 points you also need to find the points that the 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th placed teams earn while you're finding those 6 points you realize how steep that hill is.
2 wins in 16 league matches. Nobody has more goals in MLS matches than Lalas Abubakar. This team stinks.
Sounds like KSE is trying to get a sweet land deal from Commerce City to develop the area around DSGP - which I thought was supposed to start back in 2007 or so. Now KSE wants to trade 9.7 acres to the water/sewer district who would send 6 acres to the city. In return, they want 88.2 acres. Yes, KSE wants the city council to approve:City receives 6 acresSewer/Water receives ~10 acresKSE receives ~90 acres 😱 Who would agree to that?— Inside Rapids (@insiderapids) June 2, 2023
Who would agree to that? Well, certainly the people whose palms will be getting greased to make it happen…..
First summer transfer rumor, but a 32-year old midfielder doesn't really fit in to our normal pattern of targets. https://thecelticbhoys.com/2023/06/02/mls-clubs-interested-signing-celtic-midfielder/
It would be like last season when the Rapids took Felipe Gutierrez on loan. But otherwise, yes, James McCarthy's not under 22 or so.
That would be an absolutely terrible signing. You could literally do better and cheaper getting someone out of USL. With that in mind, I'm sure Padraig is working very hard to try and sign him at a price far above what he's actually worth.
This should be a rumor that gets my interest. Former Everton player, and he was born on my (34th) birthday. But he never was more than a run-around-and-kick-people kind of British midfielder, and he's only had 1 season of regular play since 2015-16. So, no thanks.
Free transfer available on the market: Leicester City confirm attacker Ayozé Perez has left the club upon the expiration of his contract. At least one MLS club reached out to Perez to look into his salary asks. It wouldn't be cheap, but feeling is he'd come for the right price. Good option for an in-prime DP. pic.twitter.com/2ezadGgb95— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) June 5, 2023 29 year old striker, however, he’s fallen out of favors of sorts lately. Signed by Leicester City for a £30m fee, his market cap has now dropped to an estimated £6m. With 179 apps for Newcastle, and 80 for Leicester, and most recently 18 for Real Betis (on loan for ‘23), he’s still getting competitive minutes - even though he may not have a high goal conversion rate. A 29 year old looking to revitalize his career is not something foreign to MLS, and the Rapids need massive help at the striker position. I’m not saying he’s the guy - I’m just saying that he’s the kind of guy the Rapids look for. And the lack of transfer fee I’m sure is appealing to Padraig and Co. There’s bound to be plenty of options out there that fit the Rapids checkbook. It’s just a matter of whether or not we’ll actually go after someone. Summer window is open from July 5 through August 2.
More of a winger than a #9. Was effective at Newcastle but kinda fell off a cliff at Leicester and had to go on loan to get any minutes. Leicester struggled this season and got relegated, and Perez wasn't good enough to get on the pitch for them. I wouldn't see him helping us much.
Hence, why I could see Padraig going after him.... In all seriousness, my point was more to the fact that there are bound to be options available this summer. It's just a matter of whether or not we do anything. The last few summer/mid season arrivals? 2022 summer arrivals: Ralph Priso Sam Nicholson (signed just before the transfer window opened) Felipe Gutierrez 2021: Mark Anthony Kaye Dom Badji Lucas Esteves 2020: Collen Warner (signed just before the transfer window opened) 2019: None (although Abubakar and Lewis were brought on just as the primary window closed in May) 2018: Giles Barnes Joe Mason 2017: Stefan Aigner Luis Gil That's a very encouraging list right there!!
Well ladies and gentlemen, I believe our summer transfer funds just got a bit drier: Stan Kroenke completes $81.5million purchase ahead of summer window.💰💰💰https://t.co/Ut2nos4aDM— now.arsenal (@now_arsenaI) June 5, 2023 Kroenke and Co have just dropped $81.5m on a shopping center in Malibu, CA. Yep, a shopping center. It’s good to know our team’s owner is hopeful that Arsenal will soon follow suit with success like that of the Nuggets and Rams - and is willing to drop this kind of coin on shopping centers to prove it! Meanwhile, the Rapids get continually hung out to dry with all the investments needed to make this club no longer a laughing stock in the league (video board, medical staff and facilities, training facilities, player acquisitions, local presence improvement, etc, etc, etc). It’s so encouraging to see Kroenke spend so much money in so many other places - isn’t it!
So, it sounds like Messi to Miami is the real deal. It could be false, but it’s getting blasted everywhere and is now getting picked up by the talking heads as well. If true….. This is about to be a huge push forward for soccer in America. Messi coming to Miami….the World Cup in ‘26….the soccer scene here is about to explode exponentially. While true - a rising tide lifts all boats - do we really trust that Padraig and Co., along with KSE, are going to be able to navigate the madness that is about to overtake US Soccer. We are about to potentially face an entirely new generation of Soccer in the USA - and the wisest will be able to take advantage of it. Many teams will be left in mediocrity for sure - but there’s a real chance coming down the pipeline (even if Messi to Miami isn’t happening, and you only have the World Cup). MLS is going to be very, very different in 5-7 years. Very different. What will we do about it? Probably sign an overpriced winger who’s not performing at his current club and raise prices on stadium food.
According to Tom Bogert, RSL is on the verge of club-record deal to bring in former LAFC star Chicho Arrango who has scored 4 goals in 10 matches at Pachuca but is not happy and wants out. Damn good player. Ugh! Even RSL is willing to spend some dough. If only……
