Honestly, I never understood what former star players add to the administration of a team. I’ve never heard of anyone signing top players or even discovering a top talent other than when Leonardo discovered Kaká at Milan. You had Roma giving Totti a token job for $1 million a year I think it was and then the powers that be, excluded him from all the team meetings. He then quit and went into the player agent business where he scouted and discovered Mateo Retegui from Argentina. Even though he is a listed VP, Javier Zanetti at Inter as far as I know didn’t really discover or sign anyone that I can tell since he retired. He does look good in a suit and tie and has been with the club for almost 30 years. I'm sure his knowledge of Italian and Spanish may be a good liaison for the Spanish speaking players but those types of players though have been playing in Italy for over a century and they never needed a former player to help out. I’m reading Samp wants to give Fabio Quagliarella and Milan Zlatan Ibrahimović a job but doing what exactly? Paolo Maldini is in the same boat and what exactly does he bring to the table other than being a former superstar player?
