Well they showed the best talents that they have aka NONE.
There is no excuse for what happened. Lost 1 - 2 to a plain dead team in 10 men is simply ridicolous. It was better to lose by counterattack while go full offensive to score the 2nd goal than this sheet.
Matsuki should have score the pk against Colombia and probably this sheet would still happen no matter what.
This time the FW Sakamoto even scored but in defence we were atrocious like in the first two matches and what about the supposed high quality in midfield?

Last note: we get out against the team that Indonesia (and Iraq) didn't want to host and the reason to take the WCU20 from AFC to CONMENBOL. This make this defeat even worse.

Yep. Today is a dark day and could mark a return to mediocrity.

Of course this is very bad but lets bet honest. A youth tournament means nothing for the japanese senior football or very little at best. Sure it would help some talents to go far in this WC but our japanese players abroad are better then ever and our young talents will find their way, with a success at the U20 WC or without.

Yes it was a horrible WC but thats all, nothing more, nothing left.

 

One of the worst U20 WC by JNT that can remember. Hopefully, they go back to the drawing board and reflect on the results.

 

Absolutely painful. Once again the JFA put someone in charge of a talented group of players and it looks like they never met each other. Togarashi should never coach above the U10 level again. How could he not start Fukuda? Insane. Why is Matsuki at striker along with Sakamoto? Who is going to head the ball in from a cross? Fukuda is THE best header of his generation and a potent striker. Matsuki should have been #6, shoring up a very porous defense. At the end of this game he was so exhausted. Put Taichi Fukui at the 10. The whole JFA should resign and get new staff, new ideas. Feel very bad for the players. They know they were better than that. They needed good leadership.

 

I feel there is a trend in JNT of all age level after WC 2018 that they would automatically switch to counterattack mode right after getting the lead no matter what how well they played before that. It's like they're afraid of conceding like the Belgium trauma or they just calculated too much.

I think it just showed the lack of confidence in your midfielders who are getting better recently and way over-confidence in the defense which also improved but still can hardly keep the cleansheet in any serious matches.

 

They should take a look from how Urawa Reds maintain their lead after going 1-0 up in the ACL (also knockout competition).
Thing is Urawa Reds have a reputation of doing so throughout the various ACLs (with different coaches at helm, meaning that it is ingrained in them, rather than depending on a specific coach)

Surprisingly, they are able to keep a compact midfield and also an organised defence.

JNT have the ability to play possession-based football and still look for goal scoring opportunities with midfielders like Kodai Sano/Kuryu Matsuki/Taichi Fukui who are able to retain possession when under pressure.

Don't know why they are constantly asking players out of position, especially considering that U-20 WC is a very good platform with all the European scouts around and hence going deep in the tournament can potentially increase J league's reputation as a hotbed of youth talents.

 

As the only one who deserved it and only by a little.
People complain about the coach and all but I can't really seen something remarkable of attention even in the first victory. Probably Chase but he's just playing in Europe and he had his brain fart moments more than once.

 

I dunno, the absolute profound failure at U20 level isn't the worst thing in the world. Makes everyone re-assess everything. The players reassess themselves, the coaches reassess themselves and their squad/tactics, those within Japan reassess the talent and look at other talent.

Good age to have this sort of mess.
Defensively the team looked rubbish.

On Amazon Prime they have something called J Sports. You can join for free for 14 days and I think you can see all the full games there. But Amazon was terrible. they rarely showed replays of key points in the game, like yellow cards.

 

From now on I'm rooting for SK. They are in the harder side of the chart, if they manage to win vs Ecuador and (imo) Nigeria they can win the WC too.
I'm looking at Uzbekistan vs Israel match as the easiest match of the Final16 and epic facepalm for what these kids (and their fatass manager) have wasted.

 

Sad news I guess losing a last minute goal is an experience the players will have to learn from.

 

Israel is drawing with Brazil. I'm pretty upset if it will come that without that behavior Japan would have reach the semifinal. Shame on the players and the manager if it will be.
