Yep I watched a couple Leeds YouTube channels and only one was critical of players that weren't Wes. He said "Wes wasn't what we were expecting but we had way too many players regress to unplayable" and the big channels absolutely refuse to criticize Bamford
I would love to know whether Leeds’ fans treatment of Wes has any marginal effect on Tyler’s probability of sticking with the team. He apparently has a relegation clause, but it may have a big number attached to it. Given how Leeds fans have treated his comrades, I hope he leaves. It is one thing to critique their performances; but they have gone well beyond that.
Ok, but Jesse had a year to figure it out and Big Sam had 3 games (to figure out what to do with game #4, his last.)
You have zeroed in on the obvious which is why you are having a hard time persuading BS posters. Now think about the USMNT and who Berhalter's back up is for Adams. I don't think anybody actually knows who the back up would be.
Probably didn't help their Keeper and much of the defense was trash. Which is why it was stupid to go grab Weston instead of keeper or defense back line help.
Weston was cheap, effectively, since it was a loan unless they stayed up. I don't know what the options were at striker or defense for that. Signing speculative talent like Rutter or even Brenden was a mistake with all the actual holes. They tried to build for the future and missed.
Agree with that, but I felt they needed to find a better keeper and at least one new back line defensive guy. It wasn't really the attack that was a massive concern, but the keeper was rubbish and the backline pretty porous.
Leeds basically got every signing since getting promoted wrong except Raphinha (Rodrigo was a bust before Jesse came in). I guess you could argue Tyler wasn't a miss, but most Leeds fans will tell ya the transfer business did em in
This too. Though I think most conceded Meslier was bad by the end of the season they do seem reluctant to give any criticism to Bamford
Let me rephrase. I didn't want to grade Tyler because of the injury. I'd say when healthy he was clearly Leeds's best player but because they didnt get a full season for him I don't want to add him. But if anything I think you could call him a hit
English fans will find any possible reason to not blame English players. Bamford was awful this year. I’m too lazy to look at his goal vs XG totals, but it has to be crazy low. He was a borderline case of the yips this year.
I watched the Leicester match at an Irish Pub on the continent. There were three PL matches that night, but Leeds was the only club with a sizeable number of fans, perhaps since the Top 6 weren't playing. There was naturally a loud roar with their goal. When Bamford missed that chance, there was a cry of anguish from their fans that was silenced like halfway through, as soon as they realized it was Bamford. There was none of the ripping into the player that one would normally expect, instead just silence.
Marsch to Monaco would be just about the best thing ever, a job at a top club in a top league, and no longer an option for the USMNT vacancy... How about just Aaronson. Adams is well beyond the French league.
Your post had me wanting to know the answer, so I looked it up: per fbref, Bamford scored 4 goals on 8.6 xG this season. Another site, called understat, has him at 4 goals on 9.77 xG (and also shows him underperforming his xG EVERY SEASON they've got listed for him).
Adams is a hot property https://www.football365.com/news/me...-battle-tyler-adams-illustrious-suitors-leeds Glad to see I am not the only one who thought Meslier wasn’t the problem
Some interesting stuff in an ESPN EPL wrap up article https://www.espn.com/soccer/insider...0/premier-league-2022-23-teams-explained-stat Under Jesse Marsch, Leeds allowed their opponents to complete 75.5% percent of their passes. That would've been the lowest full-season mark in the league, just slightly below what Liverpool held their opponents to over 38 games. After Big Sam Allardyce took over, the opponent pass-completion percentage rose all the way up to 84.2%, which would have been the third-highest season-long number in the league. Unfortunately the shift in approach didn't improve the team's performance; no, it made them worse and worse and worse Basically while I think the Tyler Adams injury played a huge role, you had a team that was very much built for an intense high pressing style under both Biesla and Marsch, and new managers trying to get away from that probably made things worse.
Dunno how reliable this source is but claiming Jesse is the favorite for the Monaco job ⚡️ FLASH ZONE ⚽️Clap de fin pour Philippe Clement à l'AS Monaco dont le départ va être annoncé très prochainement.▫️ Jesse Marsch est la priorité absolue pour prendre la suite. pic.twitter.com/w4A1YXjBly— SPORTS ZONE (@SportsZone__) June 4, 2023
The replies from supporters on that tweet as well as the official Monaco twitter feed are full of vitriol for the Red Bull system and calls for Monaco to hire Gallardo, who is a former player of the club. Fans are overjoyed to see Clement leave, and this is for a club that finished 6th in Ligue 1. Marsch would do well to avoid that job unless he wants another Leipzig/Leeds experience on his resume.
The vitriol gives more credence to the rumors, in my opinion. I think the Leeds experience was a lot different from the Leipzig experience. I hope he does well at his next stop, I think he is a good manager, but he definitely has room to grow in some areas.
What European fan base would react positively to any American coach right now? I suspect “Red Bull” is code for American.
Some Celtic rumors now too 🚨 BREAKING 🚨Celtic have granted Ange Postecoglou permission to speak to Tottenham.Celtic have already begun working on Postecoglou's potential successor, with Brendan Rodgers and Jesse Marsch in the frame. pic.twitter.com/QruHftaZHw— Football Daily (@footballdaily) June 5, 2023
Red Bull in this case is not code for American. It refers to Paul Mitchell, Monaco's sporting director, who was head of recruitment, and also a technical director, at RB Leipzig. Mitchell is leaving Monaco, but his replacement, Thiago Scuro, is another Red Bull guy, and they are considering Matthias Jaissle, from RB Salzburg, to replace Clement. This is not an anti American thing. This is an anti Red Bull thing.
