It's a tough break for Tammy, but with just 8 goals and 3 assists in 38 games for Roma this season, it's hard to imagine him being a worthwhile signing for any Premier team in need of a striker.
Yet he was looking likely to return to the PL. There was talk of a swap with Scamacca and him coming to West Ham.
🚨 Manchester Unite are planning to sign two players early in the window, to ensure they can join for the start of pre-season. Mason Mount is one of them. Those who know the market believe he could be worth £40m.(Source: @TheAthleticFC) pic.twitter.com/EAyuWCOMOR— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) June 5, 2023
Reports suggest Tammy would cost £30, which is a big outlay for the type of teams who you would expect to come in for him. If anyone could get him firing again, particularly after this ACL injury, then it would have to be a transformative manager like a De Zerbi or Emery, not Moyes or Dyche.
Granted. But there's a reason why none of the top sides here will be on the phone to his agent. Tammy is just a step down from being England class and, if you're a middle tier Premier team, you could be taking an expensive punt on a striker who may have already peaked.
Lots of players who haven’t had good seasons will be on the move this season. Including some English ones like Mount and Maguire.
Mount and Maguire have proven themselves with England on the biggest stages though, so there's less jeopardy in buying them.
Any PL team? Look at some of the players clubs bought last season. There is a massive dearth of options in that role all over Europe and Abraham’s profile is pretty much perfect for the league.
Apparently to replace Eriksen in their first choice line up. I don’t see it being a successful move and having already lost his first choice starting place under Southgate I’m not sure he will be called up if he is not playing much at club level. He is not of Maguire’s importance or unchallenged by any other options like Phillips. He could well be the only Euro final starter dropped from 2024 Euros squad despite being fit.
Ten Hag wanted him at Ajax so must have a plan for him but it doesn’t feel like it’s as likely to succeed than if he went to Liverpool. He will need a good first few weeks and months to get called up for any of the autumn matches having missed March and June due to injury.
He won’t get a move now till next summer or January 2025. He won’t be back playing until at least p February or March but will take time to build up form and Roma might nog appreciate him leaving straight after a recovery period.
I assume that's from when he was at Vitesse. Happy to be proved wrong on this, but it feels an odd one.
There's a reason why he never gets considered by Gareth and the top clubs. Yes, teams may need strikers, but not ones like Tammy who need four chances just to score one. And for £30 million? You're right, it's laughable.
It does. Would be somewhat surprising to many if he did fall from England consideration even through the warning signs have been there for a while.
Brentford spent £19 million on Keane Lewis-Potter and nobody bats an eyelid at his season as a squad player. Even if you don’t rate Abraham much at all he’s still doing a good job for a lower end PL team.
I think it's good to go abroad when young, learn new things, become more rounded etc - but when an established international then there is little point leaving the PL unless you have some deep desire to go elsewhere (like Latin players going to one of the La Liga giants) and most English players don't have that
Just one more knobbled English centre forward Patrick Bamford Tammy Abraham Calvert Lewin Callum Wilson Danny Ings Andy Carroll Thank gawd for Ivan Toney …. Oh
Guess similar examples from other sports are Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson in NFL - video of Ray Rice beating his wife, and he never played again. Images of injuries inflicted by Adrian Peterson to a child by hitting him with a 'switch' to discipline him but he missed a season and then returned
Apparently so United can replicate Ten Hag's successful Ajax formation with 2 roaming attacking 8s, 1 DM and a full back stepping into midfield to cover the 8s. Eriksen hasn't got the intensity to play this position which requires high pressing.
Let's hope Mason makes a success of this role because I'd like to see him and England replicating it, with maybe John Stones (rather than the full back) stepping up to create the midfield overload.
