I couldn't find much info about him before his fairly recent coaching career. With a little more online searching, I found his birthday (born in SF in 1982) and also learned that his father is from Chile, which explains why he trained there.

I had never heard of Fresno Pacific University though. .

I heard it was named in anticipation of much of California falling into the sea.

I still remember my 8th grade science teacher telling us that California was going to break off and fall into the ocean. And Las Vegas would become waterfront property. Heh heh. Because he was a science teacher and we didn't have the internet, I believed him too!

But Fresno Pacific just sounds wrong.

Climate change future. The good news for Fresno - they'll be on the coast! The bad news, average temperature 130º F.

A neighbor of mine just got back from visiting Dubai on business. He said it is extremely hot there, and they anticipate that the temperature will be unlivable by 2040. So they are madly trying to grow trees and grass. Only problem, it doesn't rain there. So they're seeding the clouds to force some rain, which makes it not only extremely hot but also extremely humid :-(.

When I was in college (late 80s) my Environmental Studies professor told us the world would run out of oil by 2015 and defended it with all sorts of "research". As with all things, don't trust, verify.

To be fair, a lot has changed since the late 80s with fracking (ugh) and electric cars (yay) but you wouldn't be an Environmental Studies prof if you weren't a pessimist.

Or if you weren't a pessimist when you became an Environmental Studies major / professor, you quickly became one :).

The quarterfinal is underway on FS2 and Telemundo. Cade is in there.

Someone needs to tell Cowell to shave or at least trim that mustache. Looks like poop spread out over his lips. Absolutely horrible, hahahaha

The announcers talked about his bushy head, but not the hideous facial hair

If he scores, it's all good

Is it the Samson Effect? The longer his hair, the stronger he plays?

Niko should have played. And I don't know why Mikey messed with his lineup. Both Wolff and Halliday were useless.

Well as I and a couple more people mentioned, Cowell hadn't faced any true competition. Today Uruguay missing 4-5 first team players didn't let him or the rest of the US20 team do much. Tactics were bad and the team itself missed so many easy passes. Still doesn't take away the fact that Cowell had one true shot on goal (that got blocked) and not much more. Scouts WILL notice he's still one dimensional.
But as tyffaneesue mentioned, good news, he's coming back. Let's see if he turns it up for us.

Also coach Vargas reminded me of berhalter with changing tactics and players. Complicating the team. This are kids, sure their playing professionally but still need a long way in understanding true tactics. Keep it simple and play to their strengths . Why change tactics and players after what got you this far?!?

This was not the game to change it up. Lots of missed communication, players not knowing what to expect

Cade & company were clearly out of their league.

Uruguay was levels ahead of the USA.

I may have been distracted at times as I was busy but from what I saw each time I looked, I didn't see the USA even get off one clean shot.

Reminds me of that scene from Toy Story 2 where Buzz and the other toys are trying to rescue Woody who's up on some higher floor in a building and they're trying to scale some kind of chute and someone asks Buzz "Why don't we just take the elevator" and Buzz says "They'll be expecting that!".

And so why not just play the same lineup that's been working for you? "They'll be expecting that!"
