USA-Uruguay coming up at the top of the hour. On the women's side, USA and Mexico are tied 1-1 at 85' in the CONCACAF U-20 final match.
Mexico scored late to win the CONCACAF W U-20 title 2-1. Mexico, USA, and Canada qualified for the U-20 World Cup next year.
Here's a question, if anyone can answer it. There were several MLS teams that would not release some of their eligible players for this U-20 World Cup. Earlier this week, I think it was Sasha Kljestan who said he was a little disappointed not to see Jesus Ferreira on the preliminary Nations League/Gold Cup roster for the USMNT. The question is: Do MLS or other professional teams have final say on whether or not they release players for their senior national teams?

Nicaragua has been expelled from the Gold Cup and their place taken by Trinidad & Tobago. The USA will now play T&T on July 2. Antigua & Barbuda is in the slot formerly occupied by Trinidad & Tobago in the preliminary round.
What happened there? I saw the T & T and A & B stuff on the CONCACAF site. I just figured it was a typo. The USSF site still has Nicaragua listed in Group A. Well, I found out the reason why...the dreaded 'ineligible player' violation...and it happened 8 times for NCA! I really ought to spend more time over on the CONCACAF thread here!
Either that or subscribe tot he GetCONCACAFed newsletter. Jon does a great job covering the confederation from the big fish of Mexico down to the small sides in the Caribbean (minimal U.S. coverage as he rightfully assumes most of his subscriber base is American and is following them elsewhere).
Gregg Berhalter is no longer in the running to manage Club America according @RodolfoLanderosHe is expecting to return to manage the USMNT. pic.twitter.com/aC1iSvgbxg— CBS Sports Golazo ⚽️ (@CBSSportsGolazo) June 15, 2023 There’s a game tomorrow… Thx, Jay!
If it happens, that will really be putting a cigarette out in the eye of Mr. And Mrs. Reyna, don't you think?
You’d think international soccer could take a break for a year or so after a World Cup but it never stops.
Not if you understand how qualification works, both for WC and continental championships. Especially Europe, Africa, & Asia. Gold Cup & Copsla America are (usually) much more straightforward.
And we are underway in Las Vegas with the first Nations League semifinal. Adrian Marquez and Charlie Davies on the call...feel sorry for Marquez. His mike sounds like he's in a barrel. Davies' is alright though.
The mike problem for Adrian has been fixed! As a former sports broadcaster myself, I know how annoying that can be...
Pretty good action, but no goals in the 20th minute. Canada has controlled most of the ball, but Panama looks threatening on its occasional counterattacks. Ref is from Costa Rica and really letting the teams play. A couple of guys have hit the deck seemingly hard, but no fouls called.
Escobar with a nice free kick that beats the wall, but not Borjan, who spilled it initially, but recovered the ball. 30th minute.
