Acosta will be in the MVP discussion this season.

Burks might be on an MLS roster beyond his contract.

We were pressing for the win and they countered with the best matchup possible.

Go for the win and make them ‘do something’ to win it…

I dig the fight we are seeing and think it bodes well for Tuesday

    annoying result

Miazga should have been sent off

wish we had someone like Acosta that could win a game like that

not sour grapes but Cincinnati is not an elite team — don’t think they’ll really contend for the championship when it’s all said and done

    Agree about Burks. 100%.
Mostly agree about Richey. I thought he played well. I don't think there was much he could do about the losing goal.

All the eggs are in the us open cup basket. We are digging ourselves too deep of a hole in league standings. Lot of dead weight on the roster even with us playing a bit better. We fought hard, were the better team most of the game, yada yada

I am trying to figure this team out. We play a high scoring wide-open team and we play wide-open, look good but come up just short. When we play a lock-down low scoring team, we play a tight game, look good and fail to score. Are we adaptable and can play different styles or are we letting the other team dictate how the match is played? Do we have a preferred style or is this part of the problem?

  11. As much as anyone.
He's our 5th center back now. That's where Omsberg was 3 years ago, and Omsberg is his ceiling. That's solid for a draft pick. He's improving as a depth player. I'd extend him another year.
They bring in 3 studs, we bring in 2 guys who are depth players. Nothing any coach can do about that.
    They did.
    Agree.

Not sure I understand your post. Are you saying our style of play is to not shoot for goal?

Sorry if my question is unclear. Not really about CIN match. What is our style? How do we want the game to be played? We seem to play different every match, without favorable results.

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t…

Ezra was committed to a Cbus/SEA based 4-2-3-1 and couldn’t get the offense to click. It was limited by Kacper going cold, the wing play being ‘meh’, wing backs not involved enough in the attack, and rare goals from the CAM…but everyone knew what was expected.

Klopas is committed to trying to maximize what is possible with this roster, and it’s a moving target (due to injuries, cards, opponents tactics, etc). To your point, changing each game makes it difficult for young/less experienced players to find and maintain a rhythm with each other.

Long-Term: the coach, working with FO and taking into account the roster, typically formulates a preferred style of play and the team works with him to play in that manner. Currently the Fire is in more of a short-term scenario but still need to have something in mind. Despite some comments about Klopas 1-0 results, recent matches style of play seems to vary widely. Also, if a DP9 is actually acquired, it would be nice if he fit the team style. ( Which would be a change!)

I find a one system coach/team to be highly overrated. I prefer watching teams that alter depending on scenarios.

    Agreed.

However, having the players to do so might help a bit.

Trotting out players like Herbers, who is slotted into almost any position, but can't play any of them very well, does not really help long term.

Agree adjustments are necessary. Only asking what is our “current preferred” style. If you like variety, you should be happy with recent matches, unless you meant teams that win using a variety of styles.

Some games you win but aren’t enjoyable to watch. Some games you lose and are rewarding to watch.

the one where they took out Herbers would have been Cincy gifting us a PK and it absolutely should have been called

to some degree, adaptability is very good, but typically the superior team is the one being adapted to, so I want to be in that position someday

I think that’s a bit misleading. A team might park the bus against a top team but that top team typically has to change their play to break down a block. Liverpool can’t play a high press against a low block.

We seem to have an attacking identity. We’ve played some 3-4-3. We subbed in starters yesterday instead of parking the bus. We’ve been working on Gutierrez and Shaqiri’s play together. All signs point to an attacking system with a heavy midfield presence. Sometimes that’s an outside back stepping into the midfield and sometimes that’s leaving Kacper all alone. If we do get an attacking DP this could change again.
