Not jazz, not pop, not really smooth, not really R&B. If you still own and can fit a polyester leisure suit, now is the time to put that suit on. And put a Black Power fist pick in your pocket. Right, I don't care. No, it doesn't. Carry the pick.
I don't care for country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down'.
That had to be one of the most surreal moments ever on that show. I wonder if whoever booked them had even heard the album they were promoting. Or if they were just like “hey, that Johnny Rotten fella has a new band, this should get great ratings!”
One of my favorite live performances - Lou Reed doing Coney Island Baby at the Bottom Line in 1977. The piano, sax & backup singers get cooking around the 5 minute mark.
Alright so I’ve seen these memes going around for awhile asking which of a list of artists you would most like to have seen live. And it got me thinking about what my top picks would be for that. So here’s my list of 10 artists I wish I could’ve seen live, and I’ve included the year(s) I most would’ve liked to see them. Anybody else who‘d like to participate have at it. In no particular order: 1. The Beatles (1963) 2. Jimi Hendrix (1967) 3. Bob Marley & the Wailers (1973-4) 4. James Brown (late 60’s) 5. The Doors (1967) 6. Roxy Music (1973) 7. Creedence Clearwater Revival (1969-70) 8. Sly & the Family Stone (1969-70) 9. Otis Redding (1966-7) 10. Miles Davis (1970) So yeah, it’s pretty clear what my favorite era of music is….
A year ago I saw Midnight Oil and they were pretty much the last bucket list band that I wanted to see. I missed out on seeing The Clash and The Cranberries, but I also didn't try very hard to see them at the time. Other than that, I caught pretty much everyone else I wanted to see. The performances I "missed" were all before my time: 1. Mario Lanza (died in 1959) 2. Julie Andrews in My Fair Lady (1956) 3. That mythical performance of Messiah when King George II stood for the Hallelujah Chorus (1743) Your list has very little appeal to me, but who wouldn't want to see the She Loves You and I Wanna Hold your Hand Beatles?
