I fell asleep after the first half, but it turns out they got one back deep into extra time. I hate that they played the CCL final against a slate of MLS matches at an already difficult time slot. In the matter of minutes @LAFC could have been down 3-0 but this goal leaves only down 2-1 heading to LA. 💥💪🏼 #LAFC pic.twitter.com/WPK4i6zEp1— Taylor Twellman (@TaylorTwellman) June 1, 2023
Is anyone watching " The Soccer Tournament" on TNT? I haven't seen it but there are a couple ex Crew guys - Adam Jahn and Damon Lillard - on two of the teams.
The all-female US team, made up of USWNT members, lost to a team of washed up Wrexham alumni 12 - 0. 12 - 0.
Not surprising. Didn't UNC women or the USWNT play the boys U-17 team many years ago and got beat by a similar score line?
Well. course the current starters wouldn't be allowed to participate. Among other things they all play under professional contracts with D1 ubs, which tend to take a dim view of their people playing in cockamaime events, particularly during the season. It's black and white. Like the men's teams they're mostly recently retired players like Heather Mitts.
The USWNT played the Dallas FC U15's. Got wiped out. What's funny is that pretty much everybody thought that was going to be a pretty equal match up. They were wrong. Shoulda gone with the 12's.
Bill got the teams right. That scrimmage may have been the soccer equivalent of Michigan vs Appalachian State. It's a game that had no business happening, yet the unthinkable happened. When the game was scheduled a second time, it was really a lose-lose situation. If the same score happened, it'd be bad for UM and, probably, the entire conference. If the usual outcome (big boys vs little kid) had happened, well...those games are never pretty. "Done by halftime" as they say. Other than someone's coffers, nobody wins when Alabama plays Mercer. There were some accounts that the USWNT wasn't going full-tilt, for whatever reason. Are we really believing a bunch of young teen boys would go and win the FIFA WWC? It's usually not a good idea when the "men vs women" stuff happens. Mixed doubles (tennis) or "X number of women per team" (adult rec leagues) is a better way to go.
Years ago Brian West's U-15 local all star team from Columbia Maryland beat the full USWNT 6-0. That was the year after they won their first WWC.
The #CCL is no more!Concacaf is rebranding its top men's club championship the Concacaf Champions Cup as it expands to 27 clubs in 2024.Prize pot jumps to $5 million (cash+dispersions), more than five times the CCL rewards. pic.twitter.com/sXGeSluGXF— Jon Arnold (@ArnoldcommaJon) June 6, 2023
Everything that comes out of Victor Montagliani's mouth sounds like it was written by the dullest PR person in existence. By the beginning of the third sentence, no one is paying attention because it's clearly all just mouth babble. As for the "League" it's partly about coming up with more opportunities for really awful CONCACAF teams to make a few bucks and partly because FIFA, under the incredible piece of criminal incompetence that is Gianni Infantino, is determined to make the Club World Cup a real thing that someone gives a shit about. Because of course that would mean another source of income and right now the only way they make money is on the men's World Cup. Every other thing they do is an expense. And Infantino can't co tinie shoveling ever bigger bribes to African, Asian and South American Federation presidents, thereby maintaining their support for his ugly and contemptible regime. He wouldn't have to do this is only they would have approved his pet project of holding the world Cup every two years. That would have provided him with all the cash he needs to stay in office forever. But the big Euro clubs put their collective foot down and let it be known that they were thinking about a rival World Cup setup with Europe and the America's which would leave FIFA out so they had to back down. And with the Women's World Cup not even able.to garner a TV contract he's got to find an income stream
Messi to MLS is being reported as a done deal .. Buckle up. This is getting good. #InterMiamicf https://t.co/PbBD5TrllL— herculez gomez (@herculezg) June 6, 2023 Messi to Miami is happening apparently
Lots of smoke, and it's not from Canada. Traded the PGA for Messi. Edit: the kindling is ablaze https://theathletic.com/4587862/202...er-miami-barcelona?source=user-shared-article Inter Miami has paused ticket sales for the July 21st Cruz Azul match. It would be Messi’s first match, should he come. pic.twitter.com/IoO27bLnmd— Inter Miami CF (Burner) (@miamifutbolmls) June 7, 2023
Well, when bigshot players keep coming to MLS when they're old and can't compete at the highest levels any more, what are casual observers supposed to think?
Is Messi the player he was 5 years ago? No, but he is less than 6 months from scoring 2 goals in the World Cup Final. Let's not pretend this is the same situation as Matthaus. Guarantee there's going to be a line out the door at Lower.com of those casual observers next season.
As part of my masochistic watching of cable news this morning the Fox News hosts were talking about how he's hitting his prime. *facepalm* That said, one of the hosts at least knew that Miami is in last place.
