What a stupid decision of UEFA to have the same kick off time as the EPL FA final. Couldnot they just scheduled it two hours later?
Do you know if it wasn't the other way round and UEFA had decided their kick off time first? German Men's Cup final started four hours after the Champions League final so if they had scheduled the Champions League final two hours later the games would have overlapped if one of the cup matches had gone to extra time. Edit: Initially UEFA had 6pm as kick off time for the Champions League final.
Also UEFA does not have to care about men's football competition from their 52 members when they select timing for the women's final, otherwise they would never find a date and time.
All the teams that have qualified are now known: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2023–24_UEFA_Women's_Champions_League There might be a preliminary round too this season. The draw takes place on 30June
I was watching UEFA coefficients per countries, incredible to see Portugal passing from 23th position to 9th, within only 2 seasons (and with the alone Benfica). Likely the best progress ever in the UWCL story.. In the very beginning of the 2023 2024 season next august, after 18/19 season cancelled and updated coefficients we will have : 6 - Portugal 22.000 1 team , in front of : 7 - Danemark 20.250 2 teams 8 - Sweden 18.499 3 teams 9 - Austria 18.250 2 teams 10 - Czech Rep 18.166 3 teams 11 - Ukraine 17.000 2 teams 12 - Belarus 16.500 2 teams 13 - Island 15,500 2 teams 14 - Scotland 14.500 2 teams 15- Netherlands 14.000 2 teams 16 - Kazakhstan 13.500 2 teams 17 - Norway 13.000 2 teams Can Portugal still be ranked 6th at the end of the 2023/2024 season, allowing to have 3 teams for the 2025/2026 season? Benfica plays the champions path and has a pretty good coefficient. Except a big upset during the first or second round, Benfica should reach the group stage, earning 4 points. It is 100% of these points for Portugal. Then, if Benfica wins only 1 point (a draw) durind the group stage, Portugal will end the season at 27000. To be ahead of Portugal : - Danish teams will have to win more than 13.5 points (4 pts last year) - Swedish teams more than 25.5 pts (8.5 l.y.) - Austrian teams more than 17,5 pts (8.5 l.y.) - Czech teams more than 26.5 pts (9.99 l.y.) It seems that even if Benfica is eliminated at the second round before rhe group stage, winning only 3 points, so a Portugal at just 25000 will still be hard to move out of the 6th place Unless Sweden or the Czech Rep or... wakes up ! Some interesting statistics since the format change (two full seasons). Qualification rate by country via the League path: 1. Germany 3/4 75% only one third placed team did not make it 2. France 2/4 50% both runner-ups went through 2. England 2/4 50% Arsenal went through twice, Manchester City failed twice. 2. Spain 2/4 50% Real Madrid qualified twice once as runner-up and once as third placed. 2. Italy 1/2 50% AS Roma made it to the group stage, the only not top 4 association team to make it. 6.Sweden 0/4 0% 6.Czechia 0/4 0% 6.Denmark 0/2 0% 6.Netherlands 0/2 0% 6.Kazakhstan 0/2 0% 6.Norway 0/2 0% 6. Iceland 0/2 0% 6.Switzerland 0/2 0% 6. Scotland 0/2 0% 6.Belarus 0/2 0% 6.Russia 0/1 0% 6.Austria 0/1 0% Qualification rate via the Champions Path 1. Italy 100% 1. Portugal 100% 1 Sweden 100% 1 Switzerland 100% 5. Denmark 50% 5. Iceland 50% 5. Ukraine 50% 5. Albania 50% 5. Austria 50% 5. Czechia 50%
Portugal has definitely benefited from the Champions/League split, apparently - or, at the very least, their top club has seen the benefit of the split and started putting money into the women's game there. (Probably helps that even their men's league is pretty much a three-club race and always has been.) Portugal have also had their WWC breakthrough this cycle, so it seems like they're a country that's simply on the up, and it'll be *really* interesting to see what happens to their coefficient once the second- and third-place teams from their league start competing, considering the difficulty of non-top-five countries getting through the league path - and it shows how the WoSo landscape has changed recently that a "top five" now means Spain and Italy instead of Sweden and Denmark.

Well, Arsenal could have been worse for Juve, but I guess Frankfurt won't be a cakewalk either: do I remember right that they recently started a quite aggressive market-campaign? Anyway, it looks like the winners there, at the subsequent round, will have to hope for the famous "Sparta Praha's draw" that blessed Roma last season: the alternatives could be the likes of Wolfsburg, PSG, Real Madrid or Manchester United.
Frankfurt, an aggressive market-campaign? Rather the opposite: Only Lisanne Gräwe from Leverkusen as new player so far while Camilla Küver(Wolfsburg), Sjoeke Nüsken(Chelsea) and Laura Feiersinger(Roma) have left Frankfurt. Arsenal and Juventus would be seeded if they reach round 2 so the only opponent to fear would be Manchester United (which Arsenal can`t play against as English club). The "Sparta Praha draw" could be Bröndby which got Celtic and Minsk/Valerenga in round 1 and would be seeded in round 2 if Arsenal or Juve lose in round 1(or Sparta Praha if also Bröndby lose in round 1) I will blame you if Frankfurt lose!
Oh, well, I probably confused them with some other Frauen-Bundesliga team. Nice! I'll take the blame.
Europe marches on... In my opinion, the Champions League (CL) will increasingly play a pivotal role in the elevation and widespread recognition of Women's Soccer (WoSo) in Europe. When fans of men's club teams also embrace the club women's teams, it completely transforms the significance and reach of WoSo. Moreover, it is the primary factor that sets UEFA teams apart from the rest of the world. No other region boasts a competition with the same level of depth, quality of play, and significance. Does anyone have a solid preview of the upcoming season? The matches are set to kick off on September 6th. ps.: I posted this in another thread, didn't realize there was already a 2023/2024 CL openned.
I truly think the WWC will have the effect that people around the world can't wait another two years (EURO's)/4 years(WWC) to see the stars play again and the only alternative really is watching the women UEFA CL. So my expectation is that these will act as mutual boosts.
Well it certainly does. Although, only one year to wait for the next big international tournament the Paris 2024 Olympics.
