I have been told SIU have hired and an announcement will happen next week. Does anyone know who this is?
The Utah Tech position is actually open. I think they know what they are looking for as just underneath the job title there is a caption they are looking for diversity, which I believe is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era.
Graeme Orr announced https://siusalukis.com/news/2023/5/...rr-named-womens-soccer-head-coach-at-siu.aspx
does anyone have insight on the quality of this hire? Solid amount of head coaching experience and seemed to do well so moving to the mid major level is a logical next step.
Well, he’s had decent success based in Livingston, AL (I know you had to look up where that is), so that should tell you a lot. He’s a good coach who recruits well. Went the typical D2 route of Foreign players with some decent Americans mixed in. Also did a good job of recruiting the state clubs and maintaining relationships with the clubs. I think he will do well if given support. How well funded is SIU? Will he be able to bring in his own staff?
Yes, I don't know him well but only at the professional level. I definitely believe he will improve that squad, In regards to SIU funding, from what I have heard they are very well funded scholarship wise, and have a budget for 2 full-time assistant coaches. Also, the uni has good academic scholarships and also an instate waiver for out of state students, which should enable him to attract out of state and international players. Overall a good hire and probably someone that will be eager to prove himself at that level.

Coach from Montana initially had conversations according to the local gossip but that did not proceed due to his recent extension. They have two on campus this week. Making a decision soon.
Does anyone have any actual information on what happened at denver and why hooker isn’t there anymore? that’s interesting if the Montana coach was interested for a couple reasons. He has done well there and I would think maybe a jump to power five would have been more appealing than another mid major. Also, and I don’t know any details right now, but apparently the Montana coach has been under a title 9 investigation. If true that could be why he is looking into a move. Any details on who the two denver had on campus were?
Wouldn't that pretty much immediately disqualify him elsewhere? What hiring committee would want to proceed with a coach under a current investigation?
Anyone have any details on his title 9 violations? And, if you are being investigated, one reference check to Montana from the search committee is all it would take for them to disqualify him. Not sure why he would apply knowing that.
you’d be surprised how few people check references. How do you think some of the people that get hired get hired? (There’s been a few this hiring cycle you can decipher who for yourself)
What does a coach have to do to receive title 9 investigation? Can they be fired or is the university fined?
A Title 9 violation sounds not right. About the only thing I can think of would be the hiring of assistant coaches, and he has a male associate head coach and female assistant.
Huh?! Title IX involves a lot more than that. It's also not hard to find out what Title IX includes and some examples of violations as well. https://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/docs/title-ix-rights-201104.html
So, what do you think are possible things a college coach could have done that would be a Title IX violation?
I do not now who was on campus. Title IX information is news to me. Would make no sense in considering if that was the case.
One basic example is not reporting an incident, or not reporting in a timely manner. Probably one of the most common though too.
I’m not sure how much there really is to this. Citowicki is a great guy and outside of enjoying any leftovers his athletes don’t eat at dinner I wouldn’t think he is someone who would be getting into any type of deep water. I have heard denver are down to 2. One is a head coach on the east coast and the other is coaching in the chicago area. Whoever takes that job has massive shoes to fill.
Nobody is sure. But it's not a matter of degrees. He either is or is not being investigated. Perhaps we'll learn eventually.
If there is any complaint made to a school that 'could' be a concern, the school has to open a Title IX investigation--they are covering themselves by doing that. Just because there is an investigation doesn't mean that a coach has done anything wrong, it just means that someone has said something that the school now has to investigate. Just because there is an investigation doesn't mean someone is shady or bad, it just means someone (student/parent/coworker etc) has said something that the school has to double check to see if there is truth behind it. For example on my campus if a student complaint is issued about playing time being based on gender identity, sexual orientation or any protected class etc it could start an investigation by the schools titile IX office. If you look at USC's Title IX page (i am not at USC btw) --it explains what can trigger an investigation: https://eeotix.usc.edu/
UT Martin Announced, Mike Varga from Gardner-Webb. https://utmsports.com/news/2023/6/5/soccer-mike-varga-tabbed-as-new-skyhawk-head-soccer-coach.aspx
He had to carry like 40 players on the roster for enrollment purposes. Funding not great, either. not sure what the connection was but that happened pretty quick, credit to UTM for getting it done, and at least getting a proven d1 coach, no matter how you view the level of success he’s achieved. FAR from the worst hire of the cycle…no doubt he will have them competing in that league (as they have with the exception of a down year last year)
