All of the final matches of the two pools in the same day! :ninja: (at the same time, respectively, for the first two games, involving the relegation pool, and for the other two, regarding the title pool, although there was actually only one real decider among these 4 matches).

Sampdoria made a real miracle, with their last 2 consecutive wins (and with the previous win vs Pomigliano in the 1st leg of the relegation pool, granting them the lead in the head-to-head vs them with a win today)! They arrive level with Pomigliano at 21 points, after a thrilling match, and they remain in Serie A Femminile for the next season since they've got a better head-to-head record to them in the whole season. Pomigliano wasted an incredible advantage they had along the whole season and now they face a tough play-off vs the 2nd-placed team of Serie B (most probably Lazio: we're going to know soon). Looks like the strategy of the coach-swapping didn't pay for Pomigliano this season, while Sampdoria, by replacing always good Antonio Cincotta with Salvatore Mango at the end of the regular season, apparently shook the team for the good.
The match was anyway crazy: Sampdoria had gone ahead by 3-0 at HT, with a brace by veteran captain Stefania Tarenzi (after last week's goal: she saved her team almost single-handedly; check out her volley for the 2nd goal, by the way :coffee:) and a goal by DF Aurora De Rita. Then, in the final 20-25 minutes of the game, the home team almost managed to complete a comeback, scoring with Asia Bragonzi and Alice Corelli (and her 4th goal in the last 3 matches). But finally, in the last minute of additional time, luxury markey-hit Agnese Bonfantini scored the 4th goal for Sampdoria and started the celebrations. Incidentally, a Bonfantini in a so good state of form has most probably won a spot in Italy's roster for the WWC (despite the fact that she's maybe too much of a double of Martina Piemonte).

Sassuolo-Como had nothing but bragging rights for this single match at stake instead. Sassuolo won by 2-1 and ended the league with 38 points and a goal difference of 0. Inter, the last team of the title pool, finished at 39, just saying. :coffee: It's clear that Sassuolo didn't really belong to the relegation pool. Their goals of today were scored by Benedetta Brignoli and Lana Clelland: the Scot in particular had a brilliant last part of the season and ends it with 10 goals (by the way, it's worth giving a look to the final scorers' rankings, but maybe tomorrow: too much action for today to cram in a single post, with 4 scheduled matches :coffee:). Como scored at the last possible moment (the ref whistled the end of the match just after their goal) with Swiss Nina Stapelfeldt (at her 1st goal, that will also remain the last, this season): Sassuolo had basically dominated the match (apart from an early PK for Como that had been saved by reserve GK Nicole Lauria, starting today), but the fact that Como anyway managed to score, in the end, it's a testament to their never-say-die attitude that granted them being safe from relegation 3 match-days in advance. :ninja:

Juventus and Roma were clashing today, one week ahead of the much more important final match that will assign the last title of the season, Coppa Italia (in Salerno, on the 4th of June): basically the name of the game was who was going to hold their cards closer to their vest, and Roma sure won this game as much as they lost on the pitch. Sure, Juventus had some youngsters on the pitch too, as Paulina Nyström and Bénédicte Simon, and they rotated both reserve GKs, Roberta Aprile in the 1st Half and Camilla Forcinella in the 2nd, but they anyway had a lot of top-starters in the starting 11, while Roma mostly played second-strings players.
The ending result was a 5-2 win for Juventus, that didn't mean much in the picture of the whole season nor as a preview of Coppa Italia's final, that will be a very different animal. The scorers were Paulina Nyström, Cristiana Girelli, Valentina Cernoia (from FK), Sofia Cantore and Sofie Junge Pedersen (at her last league game for this club, where she's won so much) for Juventus, Moeka Minami and Sophie Román Haug (again!) for Roma. Looking forward to the final, where I guess Roma are by far the favourite despite today's result (that was also probably a reaction from Juventus to last week's loss to Fiorentina).

The last derby of the season between Milan and Inter was a quite balanced one, with GKs Francesca Durante and Laura Giuliani, obviously both conscious of the rivalry for a starting place in NT, making some good saves along the game. Kosovare Asllani was finally back after a quite long injury for Milan, but it was Christy Grimshaw scoring the only goal of the match, giving the win and the 3rd place in the final rankings of the league to Milan. Tabitha Chawainga was good, but she can't always save the day for Inter.

    The matches:
    Pomigliano 2-4 Sampdoria
    Sassuolo
    2-1 Como
    Inter
    0-1 Milan
    Juventus
    5-2 Roma

    Final rankings:

    Title Pool:
    Roma 67 (+42)(Champions of Italy)
Juventus 54 (+34)(qualification to the Champions' League)
    Milan 44 (+10)
    Fiorentina 42 (-7)
    Inter 39 (+17)

    Relegation Pool:
Sassuolo 38 (=)(will play in Serie A Femminile next season)
Como 25 (-14)(will play in Serie A Femminile next season)
Sampdoria 21 (-27)(will play in Serie A Femminile next season)

Pomigliano 21 (-23)(play-off vs the second-placed team of Serie B)
    Parma 16 (-32)(relegated to Serie B)

Waiting to see if someone in Italy can confirm this but apparently Juventus Femminile have signed 18 year old center-back Gloria Sliskovic from SFK 2000 Sarajevo.

Today was the last match-day of Serie B; although Cittadella's match was postponed, it didn't matter to the final verdicts, because both Napoli and Lazio won their respective games. So, Napoli are promoted to Serie A Femminile, while Lazio will have to play-off vs Pomigliano. It's somehow ironic that last season Pomigliano relegated Napoli by winning vs them at the last match-day of Serie A, so you could somehow say that Napoli took their revenge, being promoted and seing their rivals now have to play-off to avoid relegation.
I'd say that Pomigliano are anyway the favourite vs Lazio, but their drop of form was so sensible in the latest months that you can never say. On the other hand, Lazio too had a crisis that allowed Napoli to pass them and they now have some important players out injured or suspended. We're going to see: the two legs of the play-off are scheduled for the 3th of June (in Rome) and the 8th of June (in Pomigliano). :coffee:

Meanwhile, as a promised bonus, first positions of the top scorers' ranking of Serie A Femminile:

    1 - Tabitha Chawinga (Inter) (23 goals)
    2 - Cristiana Girelli (Juventus) (15 goals)
    3 - Valentina Giacinti (Roma) (13 goals)
---- Martina Piemonte (Milan) (13 goals)
    5 - Elisa Polli (Inter) (12 goals)
---- Andressa Alves (Roma) (12 goals)
    7 - Lineth Beerensteyn (Juventus) (11 goals)
    8 - Lana Clelland (Sassuolo) (10 goals)
    9 - Kosovare Asllani (Milan) (9 goals)
    10 - Barbara Bonansea (Juventus) (8 goals)
---- Emilie Haavi (Roma) (8 goals)
---- Agnese Bonfantini (Sampdoria*) (8 goals)
---- Verónica Boquete (Fiorentina) (8 goals)

    * Agnese Bonfantini actually scored the first of her 8 goals when she was still playing in Juventus, in the 1st part of the season.

I am following the market rumours that are starting to appear on Italian media in this end of season, but I didn't hear anything yet about this transfer. I'll make sure to let you know as soon as anything will surface. :coffee:

Yes I'm also waiting to find out more, there was a big upheaval on social media a few days ago with Sliskovic indirectly confirming the move but nothing since.

Good, looks like they scouted her when our U-19s played in Novara back in April. This is quite a dream story for any footballer from Bosnia, she comes from a small village of just 300 people.

She's the best talent we have had for years, by far, at least in defense. She also captained the U-17s in the European Championship last year which was held in Bosnia.

In an incredible display of human stupidity, the 1st leg of the promotion/relegation play-off between the second team of Serie B and the second-to-last team of Serie A has been scheduled on the same day as the UEFA WCL final, at the same time of the UEFA WCL final! :x3:

Of course, I wacthed the UEFA Women's Champions' League final. :coffee: At the end of it, I caught up with the highlights of Lazio-Pomigliano, so I can tell you that Pomigliano won by 0-2 with a brace by impressive Guatemalan mini-star Ana Lucía Martínez. Lazio managed to be dangerous, especially in the 2nd Half with former Pomigliano's fantasista Giusy Moraca, but they were too much naive in defending set pieces (Pomigliano tried the same identical scheme twice in the 1st Half, with Taty Sena assisting Ana Lucía Martínez from the air, and they easily converted one of those chances) and not enough clinical with their middle-range shots. The goal sealing the game at 90'+7' most probably also sealed the whole play-off series, since it's difficult to imagine that Lazio can reverse the score in the away game next week.

    Today's match:
    Lazio 0-2 Pomigliano

Highlights (don't mind the swallows invading the screen: after all, it's almost summer :coffee:):

Last trophy of women's football club season in Italy, Coppa Italia, was assigned today: Roma failed the triplete and Juventus managed to win at least one trophy this season (one of their motivations, approching this game, was that Juventus women, that was born in 2017, had never had a season without a trophy).

The match was quite balanced, although Roma sure had the best chances; but it was Barbara Bonansea who in the end managed to break the balance with an header at 90'+3'. Apart from any other consideration, it's probably good for Italy NT, ahead of the WWC, that the veterans from Juventus, and Bonansea in particular, can shore up theri self-esteem with this win: maybe they're not the real backbone of the National Team anymore, but some of them remain key-players and Italy's result at this summer's tournament can effectively depend on their performance. :coffee:

    Today's match:
    Juventus 1-0 Roma

Highlights (not the official ones, but at the moment I only found these ones):

Why was the final played in Salerno? Seems like an usual place for a cup final.

Not sure what's the exact reason: Salernitana plays men's Serie A, but there is not a relevant women's team in Salerno. Maybe it's a way to promote women's football in an area that's currently lacking women's clubs.

Anyway it's quite usual that the final of Coppa Italia is played on a neutral ground.

Fair enough, it looks like there was a decent attendance too, somewhat comparable to the attendance for some Salernitana games.

Roma needs to bolster their ranks before next season if they are serious about taking on Lyon, PSG, Bayern, Wolfsburg or Chelsea. Come to think, they were (mostly) lucky to avoid injuries this year. They have good core of the team, now is time for building the depth.

I hope Spugna will play Kumagai in DMF role.

...wait Kumagai is with Iwabuchi on hollidays in Italy...
... Iwabuchi loan in Tottenham is over...

I smell an Italian signing for Iwabuchi. :D

I am wondering: she mostly played there, in the latest seasons in OL and Bayern; on the other hand, Carina Wenninger has just retired, and I am not so sure they fully trust Moeka Minami as a starting CB... :cautious:

This article confirms what I had figured: the president of the women's section of FIGC (Italian federation), Ludovica Mantovani, claims that Salerno was chosen as the venue of Coppa Italia's final in an effort to promote women's football in the South of Italy; "The choice of this venue has been strongly supported because the mission is to promote women's football in all of the nation".
