I'm surprised they would get rid of Phil Neville and Jason Kreis at the same time.

José Mourinho who just lost the Europa League yesterday on pk's to Sevilla will probably be leaving Roma and go to Miami soon!

If Messi does go to Miami, Beckham may have a big-time coach in mind.

    From the USYNT thread....

I just looked it up and saw that Diego Luna was born in Sunnyvale , was with the Quakes but is now with RSL.

Per wiki, he joined the Barcelona Residency Academy in Arizona and on June 2, 2022, was transferred to Real Salt Lake in a USL record deal of $250,000.

I don't follow the academy but does anyone know why the Quakes traded him to RSL?

There’s some thread(s) in this forum where people talked a lot about Diego Luna. He had a huge gathering of fans show up in the away section for the Quakes2 vs whatever team he was on last year (I think it was last year).

Luna is a good player and fun to watch. He's been unlucky with goals (not sure he's scored yet) but he has some assists I think, including at least one to Cade.

We noticed in the U-20 WC that Diego Luna looks really old already, he could easily pass for 30 yo. And he has a lot of tatoos too.

He's a very unusual body type for a soccer player, which may contribute to him looking older. His face - meh, he doesn't look that old to me.

Haha, actually hubby and I were mainly talking about Luna’s face looking so old. But yeah, definitely does not have a 19 yo body either. Or 19 yo tats. Imagine him showing up in a freshman dorm!

I don't think it's like the Quakes actively traded him away. He moved to a different academy but we retained his HG rights which eventually RSL acquired from SJ for cap purposes when Luna was signed from USL. I think we should look into trading for him especially since he's not getting PT in Utah.

Wki says Luna was traded for $250k , I believe in player allocation money .

If the Quakes did get that amount for a youth player, I guess that is a good trade.

Yeah but the point is that Luna hadn't actually been a Quakes player for several years by the time we traded his MLS rights. But yeah I think Luchi could make use of him and we could offer a clearer path to Europe, would love to bring him home.

OTOH, Diego Luna is listed as an attacking midfielder. We don’t seem to know how to cultivate attacking midfielders anymore. Have we had any good ones since DeRo?

Yes but who owned his rights or who got the money?

It isn't clear by his wiki page.....

    Diego Luna (soccer, born 2003)

If the Quakes got money for him , the trade was worth it but if they let him go for nothing, then they may have let a future talent get away and the acaemy once again, defeated it's prupose.

    https://www.rsl.com/news/real-salt-lake-acquires-midfielder-diego-luna-from-el-paso

So RSL paid $250k to El Paso who owned Luna's contract and $50k plus incentives to the Quakes who were squatting on his MLS rights. It's very little but we only had him between ages 12-15.

Only $50k to let a younger talented , player go?

    That isn't a profit and doesn't even cover Will Richmond's $68,775.00 salary.

I don't think it would even come close to covering his expenses to train 3 years with the youth team.

It looks to me that the Quakes lost money on the Diego Luna deal.

Seattle and Portland tie 0-0. I watched part of the game. Both teams wound up at 0.3 xG :ROFLMAO:. Seattle looked particularly hopeless, and they brought in both Ruidíaz and Cristian Roldan at 57'. I guess they used up all their chances against us.

Watching STL vs Houston. Max Bretos was talking about all stars with his commentary partner and who they think deserves a spot, he said Rodrigues and Cristian Espinoza would be a couple of his picks, He also picked Petrovic, Burki, Lowen and Bounga.

He also said, Rodrigues has been in his opinion the top CB in MLS this season. But others also are in the conversation.

It was too good to be true for the USA.

They were totally outclassed and schooled today by Uruguay.

Anyway, I figured out who Diego Luna is.

His dad was Beto Luna who played with the 1987 & 1988 WSA Quakes and I think is a youth coach with a Paolo Alto soccer club.

Here is Beto from his Foothill Jr College days where they won a state championship.

He kind of looks a lot like his son.

Although youth tournaments rarely give any indication of how or what senior teams can
turn into , todays US team was very boring to watch.

Three years (until 2026) is an eternity in terms of soccer but I honestly don’t think any of the current U20 players could overtake any of today’s top 25 USMNT members.
