I think on a neutral field Uruguay might be only "slightly" better than our squad... but if this plays like a home-game for Uruguay w/ a ton of their fans showing up for support then it diminishes are chances further. Surely we have a chance to win... but I think our guys need to be way better in front of goal and I think Slonina will need to have a very good game.

At 2:21 in the above video, he says the USA is the big surprise of the U20 tournament.

Not clear why our own "fans" would be so eager to concede to Uruguay but cool for getting out ahead of a potential loss and going with the "slightly better" language to CYA.

Don't get me wrong, I love my US team, I just don't think is going to be an easy win like some think we will do.
This will be our biggest test.

Our U20s played a lot of good teams before the tournament.

As a general rule I try to avoid definite pronouncements, but I feel strongly that this game could go either way. We’ll see.

That could be mitigated if a bunch of Argentines show up and root against one of their biggest rivals.

agreed....the Us has literally strolled through the tourney to this point....which has never happened before at any level...this isn't the senior team with Suarze and cavani etc

this Uruguay struggled to beat gambia with a man advantage in a tough match on less rest....

the obvious and clear favorite is the US over Uruguay......every betting site i have checked has the US as the slight favorite.....the inferiority complex of US soccer has no end.

anything can happen but the US should win.

now....will the US play like they expect to win ? or will they play like they expect Uruguay to win?

    that will determine the outcome.

US needs to play like uruguay is just another team they are here to beat.

I feel they should be slight favorites but Uruguay through the years is cagey so your anything can happen worries me a bit. On the other hand we should have all of our posts and crossbars out of the way and that could be worth a goal or two in every game from now on.

This is just flat wrong. For one thing look what teams many of the US players play for. Most all of them have been exposed to high quality teams even if just not the U20 team ittself.

Is Uruguay good? Heck yes but good grief.

Unless we win. Then we'll probably get Brazil!

I don't expect an easy win either. Uruguay will fight like hell and we could certainly lose. Hopefully the best version of the USA shows up and we manage to advance.

    Is anyone conceding?

The literal truth is that our opponents have not been good and that it is very difficult to tell how we will play against a very good Uruguary team.

I don't really see the point of false bravado. We've looked good; we've played competition that has made that easier.

Maybe I have missed posts while working the last 36 hours. Who has said it’s going to be an easy win?
Who doesn‘t think this will be our biggest test?
I have seen folks concerned that they will essentially be the home team.
Seen folks who think our rest is a big ad.
Haven‘t seen anyone who doesn‘t think Uruguay is very good.
    Suspension of forward could help.

    What am I missing?

Edit - Ah, I see the usual yo yo fan stuff going on. Never mind.:D

I don't really see the point of false bravado or false modesty. We have weaknesses and can certainly lose this match. But we also have beaten everyone we've played at the World Cup and have yet to allow a goal. Let's see what happens!

I think pretty much everyone agrees. Uruguay will be the best team we have played (it is the QF afterall..) and we can beat them. And, they can beat us. Sounds like knockout round soccer to me :).

I am excited to watch this one. Its rare that we have teams that don’t have glaringly obvious weak link positions and this team really does not. Thats huge in soccer.

Sometimes it's easier for us to score against teams not playing so many back. Of course that means they could also score which no one has yet. How good are our defense and keeper?

Uruguay is the biggest test for USA so far. The game could go either way. Fingers crossed.

Those 3 teams in group stage and NZ are the jokes. We should not kid ourselves that we have beaten any worthy opponents yet. Be ready and well-rested.

Israel just went ahead against Brazil 3 - 2 in extra time, so if the USA wins tomorrow, we might be seeing USA vs Israel.

Pax & Guti had their call-ups denied, then their teams proceeded to play them much less than they were before. Today, Pax didn't appear for Eintracht in their Cup final, in spite of them being down by 2 goals late. For shame to their clubs.
