Keri Russell is fantastic in "The Diplomat."

I've been told by so many people how great this show is. Through 7.5 episodes it was okay. The last part of episode 8, and most of episode 9, is fantastic. The finale tried really hard to be quirky and deep, but it just came across as a weird episode of That 70s Show.

Decent enough show overall, but it won't be very high on my list if/when season 2 comes around.

"I think you should leave" is so fun. It is such a bummer a season is basically the length of one episode of Saturday Night Live without the host or musical act.

Except for a weird subplot about drunk elk (with really bad CGI), the start of season 2 of Joe Pickett feels like an upgrade over the good first season.

There are a ton of great tv show theme songs and openings but I still think the Fall Guy is a top five combo of both

I don't know if you could even do that theme song today. Naming modern actresses that way would probably get you fired.

Yeah I wish I had found a good version of just the original theme song shown in the video cause that 2nd version is wild and feels like from another world. Still I think the original is amazing and beautifully edited cause it isn't until the three lead names are shown that we actually see anybody's face, just a nice quiet way to reinforce the unsung contribution of stunt performers.

Finally got around to watching season 1 of Star Trek: Lower Decks. It's fun. A little bit of adult humor, some fun animation, and now I just need to plow through seasons 2-3 before the live action crossover with Strange New Worlds.

Almost done with season 3 of Lower Decks. It's still really fun. Peanut Hamper is a great incompetent villain. They've done some of the more progressive storylines much better than Discovery has done them.

The show continually surprised me. I worried Boimler would annoy me, but they never overdid it with him. And some of the storylines were surprisingly poignant.

Just finished High Desert on Apple+. It's a fairly unhinged comedy with Patricia Arquette and Brad Gilbert as the leads. Once Bernadette Peters and Matt Dillon get involved it kicks up a notch. It's not great by any means, but it's a solid 30 minute goofy comedy for 8 episodes and I loved the ending. Hope it gets a 2nd season.

Finished The Knick over the past couple of weeks. Very enjoyable. Shame it never got a third season, though apparently the André Holland spin-off is still not being ruled out entirely, even though it's now been nearly eight years since the season two finale aired.

Watched Sleeping Dog on Netflix. It's a German limited series (6 episodes) that's a remake of a 2016 Israeli series called The Exchange Principle (10 episodes).

Well told story of a cop who has burned out, developed a drug problem, and abandoned his family who slowly starts piecing together what caused him to run and start living on the streets 8 months earlier. A secondary plotline attacks the same issue from a different angle. The "villain" is very easy to interpret as a few different people, or maybe multiple ones. A couple of other storylines run through the episodes and ultimately a lot of flawed people try to figure out how to fix things they've screwed up. Deals with addiction, social pressure, homelessness, and other items in an unexpectedly realistic manner. The final episode launches into slightly over the top action, but it all makes sense in context.

Very solid show and I wish it wasn't just a limited series.

I wasn't planning on watching How I Met Your Father, but decided to just to see if it was actually anywhere close to the other series. First season is 10 episodes of about 22 minutes each. It's a little rough early on. They speed run through character development. The last 3 episodes are really good for this type of sitcom. I'm still baffled that Hulu gave them a 20 episode run for season 2, but that season doesn't finish until July 11 so I might just churn through them as well over the next two weeks.

When Joe Pickett is bad, it's just really cheesy. When it's good, like season 2 episode 8, it's one of the best TV shows in recent years. I wish they'd skip the nonsense they like to start the seasons with and just keep the more serious focus throughout.

That's kind of how the novels were too. Enough cheese though that I eventually gave up the series.

Just watched the standalone episode from Invincible that gives us Atom Eve's backstory. Excellent job of conveying all the key points in just under an hour.

Was gonna post about this. Excellent episode. Actually one of the best episodes I have seen full stop, and I really like the show in general.

Got caught up on The Crowded Room on Apple+. Very interesting look at the early days of trying to understand and diagnose dissociative disorders. Apparently it's based on Billy Milligan. The performances of Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried are exceptional, especially Holland. The supporting cast is quite good as well with Will Chase shining in the role of the stepfather.

The show is different enough from the real story that I'm not sure how they'll end it.

Just finished Secret Invasion and all I can think is, "That was it?" A show with an interesting first episode, and tons of potentially meaningful storylines, turned into nothing. I guess it's supposed to lead into The Marvels to some extent, but they just did 6 episodes that had a true runtime of probably 35-40 minutes each with the finale closer to 30 or lower. That was a poorly paced long movie.

Secret Invasion was just bad. Only good thing about the series finale was that it was mercifully short. It is pretty clear that Marvel Studios creative issues are now becoming truly problematic. Feige & co need a reset (and preferably after a proper re-think and new strategy).

I've liked more of the Marvel shows than I've disliked, but a weak finale seems to be the one constant (Loki and Moon Knight are the possible exceptions). The saving grace for Secret Invasion is that it wasn't a blatant middle finger to fans like She-Hulk was. It's the second worst of the Marvel shows for me.
