NWSL's update: - on Friday, the 26th of May: San Diego Wave-Portland Thorns 1-1; Hina Sugita started and was subbed-out at 77', when the score was on 0-0; Portland at 2nd place; - on Saturday, the 27th of May: OL Reign-Angel City 4-1; Jun Endo started for Angel City and was subbed-out at 53', on a 2-1 score; I've asked on the NWSL boards, here on BigSoccer, about her injury, but no news so far ; Angel City now dropped at 10th position; - on Saturday, the 27th of May: Racing Louisville-North Carolina Courage 1-2; once again, for unknown reasons, NWSL's website only listed 10 players on the Courage's starting line-up ; anyway, Narumi Miura started and I suppose she played the whole game; North Carolina are 6th-placed; - on Saturday, the 27th of May: Chicago Red Stars-Orlando Pride 1-0; Yuki Nagasato started, scored the only goal of the match and was subbed-out at 89' (I wonder if the Red Stars, desperately looking for goals as they are, decided to advance her position on the pitch ); as you can see in highlights, the game looked like an Orlando's monologue, but the crossbar and USWNT's GK Alyssa Naeher saved Chicago, that, for a change, now leaves the last place in the standings to Kansas City . - on Sunday, the 28th of May: Washington Spirit-NJ/NY Gotham 1-1; Nahomi Kawasumi played some minutes! She was subbed-in at 86', on the final 1-1 result. Her team stands at the 1st place of the league.
Damallsvenskan - round 10 Linkoping 2 - 1 Kalmar (highlights) Yuka Momiki and Saori Takarada both played full 90. Momiki scored both goals. Kristianstad DFF 1 - 1 Hammarby (highlights) Maika Hamano played 78 mins before was sub out. She had one good chance saved by the goalie and often found herself in good position to score however Janogy was very selfish that day. 01.BK Hacken ------------------ 10m ----- 25p ----- 22-3 02.Pitea --------------------------- 10m ----- 23p ----- 18-8 03.Hammarby ------------------ 10m ----- 20p ----- 26-8 -------------------------------------------------------------------- 04.Kristianstad DFF --------- 10m ----- 20p ----- 22-8 05.Linkoping -------------------- 10m ----- 19p ----- 19-12

Surprising about Ichise, because she is still a good player and only 26. She seems to have a clear idea of what she wants to do, so I wish her the best of luck. She can also say that she went to a world cup which only a few people can say.
Yes, Nana Ichise was an early winner on the international stage, since at age 16 she was part of the team who won U-17 WWC in Costa Rica in 2014, and for a short stint it looks like she could have transitioned from her brilliant career in Youth Teams to an equally good performance in Senior NT. It wasn't meant to be, so probably she decided that she wasn't interested in keeping pursuing a lower-level career (I figure other projects of life are now more enticing to her and she wants to choose them while she's still in her 20s). She anyway tasted success at the highest levels of the women's game, so, as you correctly write, she can anyway be satsfied with what she achieved in her football career. Do I remember right that Miho Manya equally had a stint in Senior NT, although shorter and less relevant than Ichise's?
Bye bye Nana... For what it's worth imo Nana Ichise together with Miki Ito and Hanae Shibata never had a fair crack of the whip from the 1993 Nadeshiko League MVP Asano Takakura...for this reason (I've always thought she was very reluctant to pick players of slight stature for no reason other than their stature) Ps..I realise Nana wasn't that small
According to wikipedia she played seven times in 2017 for Nadeshiko. She has been injured a lot throughout her career, so her retirement makes a lot more sense. I think Ichise was given a pretty good chance to prove herself. What I do not understand is why she dropped out of favour so quickly with Takakura. But Takakura was always tinkring with her squads. But I agree with you regarding Miki Itoh and Hanae Shibata. Shibata in particular is incredibly unlucky to have only played once for Nadeshiko, which was under Sasaki in 2015. Given how many players Takakura tried in midfield you think both Itoh and Shibata would have been given a chance to prove themselves, but as you say, they were probably deemed to small; and they also did not play for Beleza.
I want to add one more; one of my favorite players in the past, Hara Natsuko. Surprisingly, she sometimes appears as a commentator for Dazn We League games.
Wow, I remember her from when she was playing alongside Asano Nagasato! She was super-cool! I agree that she would have deserved a better career!

A little number of NWSL Challenge Cup's matches were played on Wednesday, the 31st of May; those of Japanese interest are: Chicago Red Stars-Racing Louisville 0-2; Yuki Nagasato has been kept on the bench for this one (most probably to save her for the league games); Portland Thorns-Angel City 3-2; Hina Sugita has equally been rested on the bench by Portland (probably NWSL clubs see Challenge Cup has a good excuse to give some playing-time to second-strings players); Jun Endo was of course unavailable: NWSL's availability report just says "knee"; I've asked on NWSL's boards on BigSoccer and no-one, including Angel City's fans, seems to know more about the matter, although someone said that he was at the stadium when it happened and it was a clear non-contact incident, thus making it more worrying; on the other hand, can maybe be seen as good news that no announcement has been made so far? I figure that, if it was an ACL, maybe we should already know, by now. Don't know what to say, just crossing fingers.
Jun Endo traveled with the team to Portland, Oregon, after suffering a knee injury last game. The Equalizer’s Taylor Vincent reported that she had her knee ‘immobilized.’ After the matchup, Coombe said Endo has an injury to her “knee ligaments” but not her ACL. https://thesportingtribune.com/angel-city-loses-to-the-portland-thorns-after-a-stoppage-time-goal

Tomoe Tanabe resigned as AS Elfen Saitama coach. 詳細・本人コメントはこちらhttps://t.co/37BpS2oEmX— ちふれASエルフェン埼玉【公式】 (@elfen_official) June 2, 2023 Do I read this right? Her resignation is because she didn't reach expected target: "middle rank or higher in the table with 10 more goals scored and 10 less goals conceded at the end of the season compared to Elfen's last season: (Points: 13 / GS:13 / GC:33 / (GD: -20) Sorry but it stinks. It looks like club hired her only if she agreed to an impossible task: building the team during ongoing season... one that in the end will finish 5th or above in the table: which means (on average) 25 points or more and around +5 GD ....or club board overreacted after 9-0 loss in Tokyo and went full scapegoat mode. Bizzare. Changing coaches every year without investing in stronger roster won't make much difference.
We can confirm that Kerys Harrop, Chioma Ubogagu, Kyah Simon, So-hyun Cho, Esther Morgan and Mana Iwabuchi have left the Club. All of these players have played an important part in the Club’s journey and we wish them well for the future.— Tottenham Hotspur Women (@SpursWomen) June 2, 2023
From what I read it’s implied that it was her decision to quit. But I get what you mean. Nagano’s coach was fired recently. The lack of vision from the clubs in the lower end of the table is sad to see.
With only two games left to go in the season I think it is an odd decision, but she may have lost the players. They are last in the league, so it is not ideal. However, as you point out clubs have to start thinking longer term if they want to have more success. Also, given that there is no relegation clubs really can build a team if they recruit smart and pinpoint areas where they need to improve on and off the pitch. But it takes time. Elfen have not given her a lot to work with. They have kind of got an okay defence, and they have got Yoshida, Yumura and Miura who are good players and would probably start in any of the bottom eight teams. But that is it. I cannot think of a significant signing last summer. Elfen's youth team does seem to be improving, so there is hope for them, but they have a lot of work to do. I imagine Yoshida will not be there for much longer as well. I still think Kumiko Tashiro leaving Nagano is a poor decision, because Nagano have looked good at times this season. But maybe she is leaving to go to Elfen? I will be curious to see what Regina do with Nakamura, because he has some pretty good players at his disposal and they are not going to get anywhere near third.
