I'd ask them if their league is any good at all and Rangers is good at all then why can't they buy players for more than MLS teams? Surely many MLS teams would sign him for that much and consider it a bargain.

The irony of this Tillman discussion is that Bayern have a buy-back option on Tillman. So for Malik to stay with Rangers permanently, his value has to exceed 5 million pounds, but not by so much that Bayern would prefer to use their buy-back.

But Rangers fans can just pile on their players in a year where they got beaten for all the trophies by a better side. The last loss is still fresh, so some venting should be expected.

I think it would be better for Tillman if Rangers didn't buy him, and he can find a loan in a better league next season. He'd miss out on some European play, but I think he'd be better served playing on a lower-tier Bundesliga side (or equivalent) to see if he can make it at that level.

    I hear you.

They got beat 20 to freaking 2 in Champions League. 20 to 2. Is that honestly on 20 year old Tillman who just arrived 2 months earlier? Really? He freaking got you there w/a goal and an assist, so maybe there's bitterness he didn't accomplish anything there to begin with, but I didn't see the rest of the team accomplishing much either, and considering the bare handful of goals they scored combined in qualifiers+CL (8), his 1 goal and 1 assist was likely more than virtually anyone else did and they were the instrumental goal contributions in getting them out of the first round of qualifying and through the final round. This is a team that lost all 6 of their CL games by 3-0, 2-0, 4-0, 3-0, 7-1, and 3-1. They should probably look themselves in the mirror about what the rest of the roster was doing while they were getting pasted 22-2, they freaking made the Europa Final w/o Tillman a year earlier, so maybe some of those guys should've woken up and done something.

As you say, in the end, Tillman's loan deal made it very difficult for Rangers to come away w/the player in any scenario: if he wasn't good, he wouldn't be worth acquiring, and if he was good, he'd be too expensive, 5 million pounds for Bayern is basically developmental prospect money, and if Tillman was good enough to walk into the starting lineup for the biggest games of the year for them, and he was, he was already worth more than the buy price for Rangers.

Glad he will not be going back there, period, but appreciative that they helped grow his game.

A couple of key points from the last couple of days:

Malik Tillman has already made his mind up on his Rangers future.

That's according to Kenny Miller, who reckons the American doesn't want to return to Ibrox next term.

It was revealed by Michael Beale yesterday that the Bayern Munich loanee would be out for the remainder of the season.

    +++++++++++++++++

"I just think the boy might see his future elsewhere."

The Celtic Blog has a conspiracy theory that Tillman is not actually injured, that he was sent to Germany to keep him quiet because, even though he wants to stay, the management at Rangers have figured out they cannot afford him, that they need to spend money in more than a couple of players after this season they finished so far behind:

    https://thecelticblog.com/2023/05/a...n-tillman-no-wonder-celtic-fans-are-laughing/

If Tillman was here, some enterprising hack might ask him questions about this, such as “Has the manager discussed the future with you? Have the clubs agreed a transfer fee? Would you like to sign for this club and play here next season?”

And that’s the big one because what if he says “Yes, I’d love to”?

They’ll have a Hell of a job selling the fans on the idea that he’s the one who turned the move down … and that’s the card they’ll play. They’re test-running the lines right now to see which of their gullible fan media outlets run with it.

    -----
On the other hand, Rangers fans are fine with him leaving for good:

Don‘t care about the BS from fan sites.

He got time and experience. Bolstered himself and should now get a better opp somewhere.

Needs to take ad of that and growing his game. All you could ask. Next.

The fees have been agreed to. Of course, they can be re-negotiated. I think Malik might have done a bit too well to feel like he has to stay at Gers. He seems not to lack self-confidence. I'd not be surprised if he's pushing for a more consistent-quality league - or even to get BM to give him a shot. But that would take a bit of negotiating between BM and Gers. Tillman also seemed pretty happy at Gers, and the paperwork is already boilerplated, so I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up there another year at the end of the day... or end of the summer, anyway. Rangers fans will never be happy after a season of consistent 2nds like this one - won't really matter what management do short of buying Haaland or some other fevered dream.

Injured. Of course, Tyler Adams did make the preliminary roster, which is weird.

I don't think it is all that weird. Adams injured his hammy in early March and Tillman did his in late April. CCV also got an injury late in the SPL season and didn't make the 60-man roster. Both would have easily made the 60 had they been healthy and IMO Tillman had a good chance at getting minutes against Mexico.

Ok, that's the last time I ever make a pro-MLS quip around here. Tough room. Sheesh.

But yeah. "He got hurt." is the correct answer.

Basic deductive reasoning piece that states the obvious: With the sacking of Hasan (apparently a Tillman fan), and Ollie, it's unclear what is up for Tillman.

I'd guess that it makes a Gers transfer just as, if not more, likely as a "refreshed" BM is not likely to care that much about Tillman unless they think they can make more money elsewhere - which is pretty much what you'd expect the old guard to game out as well, but who knows.

Ultimately, if the fee is agreed on, Gers can always pull the chain. Then it's on BM. They might just cash the check and get on with things.

My friends at Bayern were certain he would be with the team in the fall so they could evaluate him up close. Now? Hmmmm. The dislike for Hasan and Ollie at Bayern from the fanbase was through the roof after they let Nagelsman go TBH. FC Hollywood in action.

The good news? Tillman will have interest from somewhere. I really don‘t believe his future is at Bayern and most there who have watched him and know him in the youth arena agree.
It‘s nice when a player has a good loan and you don‘t have to worry about interest!

    The second article was great.

Ranger fans worldwide are relieved he didn‘t stay, and he is barely good enough for a B2 side at the moment!

What ones that say about Rangers!:D

    Fun stuff.

So what my friends at Bayern told me was right. They usually are. He is going to get his shot at Bayern, but it was previous leadership that liked him. Hmmm. I just hope he doesn‘t stay and not play at all for a half season if they don‘t rate him. I‘ve said before it wouldn‘t be the worst thing for just the fall, as long as he gets a loan after the winter.
No one expects him to be good enough for Bayern.

Well, let‘s see what happens. I just want him to keep playing.

Can someone enlighten me as to why he is so disliked at Rangers? I’m not just referring to that over the top article which states the worldwide fan base is rejoicing, but it seems to have been stated before that he isn’t liked there. Why?

He was often their best attacking player in his 1st season.... so it doesn't make much sense to me. I am dubious. But it is a big world out there and I am sure you can find at least several fans/posts that can support any conclusion. Also... think if you are a fanatic of Rangers and you think that Tillman doesn't want to return... you probably feel spurned. Right? So when the inevitable happens your brain says... "Awesome.... we didn't want him anyways!".

Yeah, I don't get getting back to Bayern. Even if everyone at Bayern liked him, there is no way he is beating out Musiala for time, and that is no shot at Tillman. Musiala is just unreal. Tillman might be a great player, but Musiala right now looks like one of the best talents of that soccer generation.
