not taunting, legitimately curious, what is the lowest tier you’d want him to go? If charlton, Portsmouth, oxford, someone in league one says we want him in….. Would you think good move? ……. Venezia?
I think League 1 would have made sense, during this period he's just playing for the reserves. Because it'd actually be games under pressure. Now that he's getting to the offseason where he's opening himself up to loans across the globe, he has to go somewhere around equal to MLS, where he was already decent. I think a projected relegation-battler in the C'Ship, like what Birmingham was to Trusty, may be good. Or he could go outside England, where the relegation/promotion madness isn't as heightened, and they may not want to trust a young gk. Maybe the ol trust Lowlands, or 2. BL.
Big/historic club in League 1 is probably the lowest I’d like to see Gaga go. Excited to see where he ends up for 23/24. Somewhere in the Championship or League 1 is fine. Somewhere on the continent at a decent level works too.
The guy already demonstrated he can be a quality keeper in MLS. In England.............Championship. But he has the ability to start in first divisions across Europe. My worry is actually that he's promoted to the #2 keeper at Chelsea (because we know they really like him) and barely plays. Cuz they're not making Europe.
same. thats the last thing that I want. I would all be for a bit of a ladder. I agree with who said, if it is a "big" league 1 club. Which at this juncture could be a Derby or Sheffield Wednesday. They should be strong favorites for promo (if one or both dont go up). Then on to the Championship, same principle.......Pretty much any Championship level club would be cool. Then I think that sets the foundation for top flight. Im all for a loan or two.
To be fair, the downhill slide picked up steam once Saliba (their best defender )got injured. Not saying that is THE reason, but its definitely a factor...
Really hope Slonina goes on a loan to either the Championship, League One or some Belgian/Dutch team for next season.
Slonina is still quite young but I think you are spot on. Getting quality minutes in first team duty at this point will serve him better than playing on the Chelsea U23s.
Well Coventry just denied us a wembley GK yank off sadly. Steffen and Middlesbrough lost 1-0. Horvath gets a chance to help send Luton up, and possibly a permanent transfer in doing so.
Celentano not on the list of 60 but at least his team is top of MLS Unreal save by Roman Celetano in stoppage time to preserve a 3-2 FC Cincinnati win over the Columbus Crew in the Hell is Real derby pic.twitter.com/P7T6N5vWkm— Tom Bogert (@tombogert) May 21, 2023
Can we all say neither Celentano or Callendar as going to play in the Nations League? So it doesn't matter which of them is on that provisional roster? No..............really. The vets like Turner and/or Horvath will take the Nations League games. I expect Celentano and Callendar to get the Gold Cup opportunities.
They may not want to take them away from their MLS teams for a tournament where they’d just sit the bench.
Still not top 60 worthy Great save from Roman Celentano from a James Sands header. Looked like it would be 1-0 to NYCFC, but the Cincinnati keeper somehow keeps it out. pic.twitter.com/wV6tzsJmvO— James Nalton (@JDNalton) June 1, 2023
So now this opens up a spot this summer. Nations League? Horvath, Turner, and Johnson? Gold Cup? Slonina, Celentano, and Callendar? I'd rather Callendar and Celentano get games in the Gold Cup than sit on the bench for the Nations League. Zack Steffen revealing on Instagram that he had a notable injury and will be out of the Nations League roster for the #USMNT. Ugh again for a class act guy. Last year's shot stopping numbers were slightly better by the end of the year than Turner's best year in MLS. Probably not significantly better in the mathematical sense. But this year, he's well below league leaders and after last night's three goals, is closer to average. Where the impressive thing about Turner is that he had historic-level seasons for 2 years with two other GOTY level stuff. It's early in the MLS season, and I don't know that Petrovic's numbers aren't a bit of bad luck. For example, the goals last night weren't exactly saveable (or at least two of the three I remember). But it's also possible he was on a heater last year and isn't quite that good. Eyeball test tells me he's very, very good, though. Better than Turner is likely to be splitting hairs. He's much younger, so he's going to fetch more. I think he's better than Turner started with his feet but not better now. As for Twellman, he's been saying that every since someone fed him a stat midway through last year where Petrovic was waaaaaay better than anyone had ever been. And he's never changed his POV. He's great, though. The Revs paid $600k for him and are going to net something massive. Whoever did that scouting is next level.
The fact that Celentano wasn't on the provisional roster was indeed a bad indicator about his GC prospects. That means he's not 4th or 5th on the depth chart right now. But there was an ostensible managerial switch, so who knows what Callaghan or the shadow skipper thinks of him. There also could have been a reactionary response to Celentano's uncharacteristically poor performance shortly before that roster was announced. He's since bounced back. As I've said, I think it was a big mistake to give Slonina and Johnson those 3 cupcake camp starts. It was an opportunity for Celentano or Callendar to have an opportunity. And that's what the GC should be used for, like it was for Turner. But I'm not optimistic. I think the caps will be heavily given to Horvath. I'm a proponent of him being there. But the comp should be open with them alternating starts or giving the competition a real match, not Grenada or something.
Yes, Celentano is probably at best 5th on the USMNT depth chart right now. I personally have him 5th, so................... Turner Horvath Steffen Slonina [I think Slonina is awesome, and the future #1. I won't be surprised if he's elevated to #2 at Chelsea next year. Still only 19.] Then Callendar and Celentano in some order. After taking a look at both, is it possible that Hudson had Callendar ahead of Celentano on his depth chart? Yes. Is that such an outrage? No. Can that change quickly? Of course. And being 5th or 6th on the depth chart puts him squarely in the frame for a callup this summer. Now that Steffen is out, it definitely should.
Whoscored average player ratings put Steffen at #19 and Horvarth at #36 did goalkeepers in the Championship. >10 appearances Steffen is #13 and Horvarth #27.
Notably Celentano is on the Gold Cup provisional roster and I bet he ends up on the actual Gold Cup roster.
An A-/B+ team provisional roster isn't particularly notable and doesn't say he would have been on the A/A- roster even now, let alone before when a different guy ostensibly picked it. You'll also note that Callender is on both provisional rosters, but Celentano is not. So that indicates he's rated lower, or at least was. Now we'll see what transpires with the much more select A-/B+ team final roster. If Horvath wasn't available for this one, but is that one, it's even more difficult of a proposition for Roman. Again, your reasoning they can't have 2 MLS keepers from different teams out for the same tournament makes 0 sense (I'll bet they have 2 MLS keepers regardless) so that was never the thinking.
