yea Italy comes out to destroy the world of men. We counter them and game over. we are way faster

thing is both Italy and Colombia just fall asleep for large parts of the game.

I want us to cream Italy and get half these dudes in Torino, Udinese, Empoli, Sassulo next season

I am super happy Argentina is out. They didn't deserve to be at the cup and thankfully are out. Was worried some shady crap was going to go down to get them to the final.

Cabezas will have a chance to develop and bloom though in the second division of England. I think he will be good and can be an option in the future but we shall see.

As for Angel I think he will be given a chance due to his bloodline and due to him playing at Nacional. Most players who play well at Nacional get a chance and with our lack of strikers he is in line to get a chance. Just a matter of when, not if.

Well then, I wanted Italy and we got them. Hope it is not a Be careful what you wish for type of thing.
Italy is going to play their hearts out against us. And that Casadei guy is like a play making, shot on goal robot with class. I tremble thinking about our CBs and FBs against him.

That said, we have confidence and class too and can keep the ball. The offense is clicking at the right time and the midfield has creativity and imagination so it should be a very fun match.

looking ahead, if we get past Italy, we would play Ecuador/Korea for the semi's.

Depends on how we lose I suppose.
If we dominate the game and the old Colombia shows up with many chances squandered...
... and Italy wins on some stupid penalty or FK then I might be a little bit ticked off.

If it is a free- flowing, balanced game and exciting then may the best team win (and I will tip my cap if it is them).

    no one looks that special

Right now the team to beat is Brazil and we should have beat them twice in qualifiers.

the team just needs to have the fire they showed at the start of the 2nd half.

Italy goes out wanting to end the world of man

Considering how Italy almost drew with Brazil after taking the lead by a lot, I can say that we can realistically challenge Italy and actually get the win. Mostly because we were able to challenge Brazil during the qualifiers and neither side dominated the other while both of us have improved significantly since.

Again and I hate to be a broken record: they need discipline with the defense. Our goals won't do us any good if we let them score on us.

We are not pushover by any means and Italy knows this.

You live in a world where Oceania receives not 0.5, not 1, not 1.5, but TWO full berths to the tournament. If that were not the reality you'd have a strong argument, but unfortunately it is the reality.

CONCACAF without the US/MX is getting at least Oceania's current representation. Hell, the Caribbean by itself is getting at least that (or a 1.5 split playoff with Oceania #2 vs Caribbean #2). There is no other conclusion in a world where Oceania is worth 2 full berths (and that is our world).

    You forget how FIFA works?

There would not be enough votes to make this happen. It's just wishful thinking from fans who do not like CONCACAF teams, not reality. The reality is the CONCACAF bloc is too large to be dismissed that easily. Even the Oceania bloc is too large for that (which is part of why they have 2 berths, despite being so weak). You'd need votes for all stages of this (votes to leave CONCACAF, votes on new berths to be spread out, etc), and they will be impossible to get.

I think they actually should expand the U20WC, but that's another debate and probably will not happen soon.

I'm sensing negativity in some of the comments here and I really don't get why.

We just beat an European team by 5-1 and it could have been easily 5 goals more.
Italy is a good team but also I am more than sure that they aren't celebrating having to play us.

The last time we faced Italy in a U-20 WC, if I'm not wrong, was 2005 in Tilburg (Netherlands) and they didn't have any chance that game. I watched it live in the stadium and that was maybe our best U-20 generation at least in terms of strikers and I say maybe, because this team seems to show more quality in many positions and even in players that didn't make it to the final list for the WC.

Normally, we are claiming that our players are pechofrios, then it is fair if we fans show a strong mentality by ourselves.. so keep cool, we are going to beat Italy!

    Good luck versus Italy guys.

I have a feeling Colombia is going to win, they have the talent to do it.

We can beat Italy, but Italy can beat us. Remember in the Sudamericano Uruguay was able to beat us in Bogota even though in some ways we outplayed them.
I can see a scenario like that happening here too if we are not careful and efficient with our chances.

That said, this team has guys like Yaser and Angel now so it is a bit different with them on the roster. A lot more encouraging offensively.

thats exactly my point: we can beat them and they know it and we can be confident that it shouldn't surprise anyone

My only concern is that their way to play may fit better against southamerican teams like when they made Brazil look horrible.
Other than that, I expect a game similar to that one we had with Israel.. so we will win but we might suffer a bit more than until now.

I don't know I felt the U20 from 2005 a lot more of these guys were big parts of their clubs already. Guarin and Abel think went to the previous u20 WCs. Abel then Rueda instantly promoted him to the Senior NT. He went to the Gold Cup and eliminated Mexico :) then they stopped inviting South American teams :)

21 players went to this world cup

Out of that only 6 didn't get capped for the SNT. That is an insane generation. Also this is before the Zapata and Falcao kicked down the Euro doors for all of us. Cordoba, Yepes, Angel opened them but those 2 guys just made euro teams want us bad.

In that team we had probably our best keeper ever in Ospina on the bench!

Zuniga, Cristian Zapata, Valdez in defense

    MF
    Abel, Guarin, Edwin Valencia, Toja

    Up top
Rodallega, Falcao, Renteria, Dayron Moreno :)

The 2003 team was pretty solid too. I mean I hope this current crop of guys is even half as strong as the 2005 team.

Luckily our lounge has a tv with chrome cast. So I will try and watch.
