I watched every game. It is ironic that a dude gets less minutes specifically because he kept his team in the race. Unless you think Terzic runs them into the ground even if they’re out of contention? Every decision Terzic made is easily defensible. They had a great second half and damn near won it. I actually really like the guy, while hoping Gio goes somewhere else if the joker role is where Terzic likes him.
I value your opinion as a real dortmund fan...so I'm not going to triple down but my opinion hasn't changed. i would prefer to see Gio go to a different team....one that will value him higher than dortmund has. ...wherever that may be. yet another season of gio not starting and playing every game will be absolutely brutal to behold.....
Love your posts. But gotta pick a nit… scoured Kicker and it looks like Reyna’s goals/assists contributed directly to 8 points. That is 11% of BVB’s season points. A very productive year in spite of his below average 3.58 Kicker season rating (1 best, 6 worst). Details: Mainz 2 assists, 1 point VfB goal, 1 point Mainz goal, 3 points Augsburg goal, 3 points
He has to find a way to stretch that over an entire season. He's always been Hype though injuries have robbed him of putting that on further display.
Thanks for this. For summing up just how productive he was in limited minutes AND for demonstrating why one should ignore kicker. Literally the worst rating system out there IMO.
I'm going to assume the "real" reason for Reyna's limited minutes was health and preventative. That long list of players ahead of Reyna? Reyna is a monster waiting to dominate once he gets to his next level. He can't get there without playing though, So, if Dortmund have lost faith in him (doubtful) then he needs to move on for the sake of his career and development. I think he stays next year and gets back on track. But, it would be great to see him in Spain for sure. Reyna is technical, high soccer IQ, and bursting with creativity. Hopefully, Reyna has learned his lesson on letting his ego take down unhelpful paths and is patient and clear headed with his next most important decision. Also, hopefully Dortmund want to keep him, I think that would be best for him. If not, he needs to have the courage to find a better situation. This is a career defining decision and will tell us a lot about Reyna's trajectory. A blip or a significant roadblock.
Fabricio Romano says that Dortmund will not be marketing Reyna this summer, he will stay there for next season.
It's an easy call for Dortmund, maybe not for Gio but we'll see. If he feels good about the coach and his prospects for playing time next year he should stay.
Until he shows he can stay healthy and make an impact across a whole season there will be questions, at least from top teams. Next year is set up for Gio at this point. Stay healthy and keep his head down and he will be fine. The healthy part is the big one.
this is why I doubt Dortmund's priority is actually winning. How could a 103m midfielder sold to Real madrid not be good enough to start on the last game of the season to win the league??? benching bellingham was most likely about making sure they get this deal done after the season...not for sporting reasons.
If the Bellingham news is true, here's the current status of Dortmund's 16 most frequent starters from the 2020/21 season -- which is the last time Reyna was regularly starting for them. Hummels (32 starts) - still a Dortmund starter at age 34 Haaland (27 starts) - transferred to Man City (EPL) for €60.00m at age 21 Reus (27 starts) - still at Dortmund at age 34 Ajanji (26 starts) - transferred to Man City (EPL) for €17.50m at age 27 Guerreiro (25 starts) - still a Dortmund starter at age 29 Sancho (24 starts) - transferred to Man United (EPL) for €85.00m at age 21 Reyna (23 starts) - still at Dortmund at age 20 Can (23 starts) - still a Dortmund starter at age 29 Bellingham (19 starts) - transferred to Real Madrid (La Liga) for €100m at age 19 Burki (18 starts) - transferred to St. Louis (MLS) on a free at age 31/32 Brandt (17 starts) - still a Dortmund starter at age 27 Meunier (17 starts) - still at Dortmund at age 31 Hitz (16 starts) - transferred to Basel (Switzerland) on a free at age 34 Dahoud (15 starts) - still at Dortmund at age 27 Delaney (14 starts) - transferred to Seville (La Liga) for €6.00m at age 29/30 Witsel (13 starts) - transferred to Atletico Madrid (La Liga) on a free at age 33 Half of them have now left the club two years later. Reyna is also the last of the young players on that list still remaining.
He was injured and had missed the previous game as well. I'm sure you will think its some conspiracy to preserve the sale or whatever, but he didn't play because he was injured and had been. It doesn't seem like he is going to play in England's Euro qualifiers this summer either, because he will be resting the knee.
