At halftime, I was watching the subs warm-up and Omar wasn't out there - which had me wondering, what's the plan here if we have to sub a cdef? Move Polster back?? Then he (Omar) came out when the starters emerged.

I have to think they'll be looking to Revs II and the mechanics of getting someone eligible for the roster.

No, baseless speculation  - hamstring surgery.

I'm guess (more baseless speculation!) that this is a re-injury of past issues. Hamstrings rarely require surgery.

I was out of the country, so pardon me for being a bit late to this party, but how is Ben Sweat not just Seth Sinovit 2.0?

in 2020 Seth at 32 was released from SKC. We signed him and he played like 150 ineffectual minutes before retiring. Now its 2023 and Sweat has just been released by SKC at age 31...

I noticed the parallel as well, but it seems like Sweat has more left in the tank than Sinovich did at that stage - but, we'll see.

There's a little intrigue about his release - Sweat said something to the effect of 'there's another side to the story ...', which is interesting.

Here's what the Kansas City Star reported:

Vermes was notably upset in the aftermath of Sporting’s home loss to the Sounders on March 25. He critiqued specific on-field actions that Sweat had made, all but naming the defender. Sweat committed two yellow card offenses and held Jordan Morris onside by a good four or five steps for Seattle’s go-ahead goal in a 10-minute span. “The two yellows, its not hard to understand,” Vermes said after the match. “It’s definitely a second yellow. The first card, I don’t know, maybe could’ve been a red. “When you have experience, you have to use it. Experience means nothing if you don’t use it.” When asked where his concern level was with the team, Vermes said he was “pissed off” and lamented the mistakes of the back line. He said the team’s reaction needed to be different in the next games. “It’s gotta be different than the mentality of making a mistake, making a mistake, making a mistake, and (it’s) the same people making it,” Vermes said. He then alluded to the upcoming suspension for Sweat saying Sporting was “in a situation where we’ll change some things because we have to. And maybe that’s for the best.”

Sounds like Vermes might have been rather frustrated (no duh)/reactionary.

More talk that ManU, Liverpool and Benfica are interested in Petrovic. This could be shaping up as a massive financial haul for the Revs.

That's great for Bob Kraft. Not for the Revs team at this point. If he gets sold, hopefully he can at least finish off the season with us. With this team so badly decimated by injuries, we can't afford to lose another player (through injury or sale).

Exactly. If we lose him then the tabby is rendered completely toothless and we will be throwing a 2nd season in a row into the flames. I get that we want to be a selling team but there needs to be balance. It means a lot to me and the dollars I spend to at least hope for an MLS cup every year. Also, why are our injuries so common and why do many seem to happen outside of games?

Yeah, well I hope he gets to finish the season too, but I don't see it as a boon for Kraft, I see it as money to re-invest in the roster.

This would be something to consider if we had a viable back-up. We don't. Edwards is a huge drop-off from Petro.

And we're not likely to catch lightning in a bottle for a second time. Petrovic was no real dropoff from Turner, and even if we're able to use his proceeds on another keeper, is he going to be nearly as good?

Well, they have re-invested and have had mixed->positive results. They hit the jackpot with Petrovic, Borrerro was a quality pickup, but still has some questions; and Vrioni is still to be seen (I'm still optimistic). They also hit it very big with Romney IMO.

Extremely unlikely (mostly because Petro is that good), but it's a reality we're going to have to face. We may hold onto him the rest of this season, but I don't see it going beyond that. It would be unfair to Petrovic and a blow to our reputation if we held him back beyond end-of-season.

Jackson is back from his ACL recovery and had a shutout for R2 in the last game (and another win before that). I have no idea how good he is or can be, but this is why we drafted and developed him.

They did reinvest, but with about half the money spent. Let's not kid ourselves and think that if they sell for $20M, that the replacement will be the same cost. I'm not saying it's not a good business model, but it is still a business and a good chunk of the money will go into Kraft's coffers.

Absolutely it will go into their coffers. In Kraft's mind he's on the long road to recouping his initial losses in the first 15 years. Right now, the only metric he can hang his hat on is the equity of the team's value. He bought in at 5 mil., then had to kick in about 20mil more in 2002 (with other investors) to keep the league afloat. The team is now worth about 300mil (a low number because any potential buyer would need a stadium).

He's already made bank from owning the Revs. He's admitted as much, we've been in the black for a while. And don't forget, he gets a portion of each expansion team's incoming payments as well.

Yes, I am aware we're in the black and have been for a few years. Still a long time of small profits to erase the years of losses. On the portion of incoming payments (a pyramid scheme?:ROFLMAO:) yes, I forgot that. Noted. :)

I'm no big fan of Kraft, but I'm pretty sure you have no idea what's in Kraft's mind ...

Regardless of whether the team re-invests all or part of the funds from selling Petrovic, they've already demonstrated that they can/will invest major money, as they did when they reaped revenue from Buchanon, Buksa and Turner.

As I see it, the direct problem isn't spending, it's getting sufficient production from the DP (and other high-value) contracts that we do have. We can't just go and get another DP, even if we wanted to - we have the max and, other than Gil, they aren't giving the return we need/expect.

I wish Jozy well, and am relieved that we no longer have to discuss him.
