KTVU interview w/ Kaval from 2017 sounds like nails on a chalkboard now, especially when he differentiates the A’s commitment to Oakland compared to the Raiders, who left for a “big, bright shiny object” in Vegas… pic.twitter.com/mdBgQCMfas— Vitamin Dee (@2Legit2QuitDee) May 16, 2023
At best. There was that article wondering why Fish would be so willing to be the villain forever regarding his moving the A's. How about DKav? Is he hoping to float under the radar? He's going to be coming back to Stanford to give his talk about the "ROI" at Las Vegas. Maybe he feels he can just insulate himself among the silicon valley business elites and avoid the riff raff (the little people), and hope people forget?
If I know anything about silicon valley, it's that grifters gonna grift and there is no shortage of executive/board member types too stupid to know a grift when they see one. Kaval will, unfortunately, be fine, career wise. Frankly, he probably won't leave the A's organization any time soon. He's happy to take the brunt of the criticism publicly and lie through his teeth for whatever it is they're paying him.
As I've speculated in the recent past, I think it's entirely possible that Kaval is part lizard. He kind of looks the part. And man, cold-blooded! The lack of human emotion in that interview with Raj Mathai was kind of stunning and little frightening. He might also be a cyborg.
Saw Kaval today in Carson City going into the state legislature building....really wanted to ask him if he feels any remorse from blatantly lying to fans year and after year. ..
Allow me to channel Dave for you. "I'm sorry you feel that way. We did our best to deliver on our goals, but it simply isn't possible to bat 1000 in every game, I realize that some of our As fans may be disappointed that the team will no longer be playing in Oakland, but look at it this way -- you're not losing a team, you're gaining a city! Travel between Las Vegas and Oakland is quick and affordable, and Las Vegas is a delightful second home. Instead of sitting on 880 stuck in traffic, you can be cruising down the Strip. This move is truly the best of all worlds!"
Weirdly, Oakland Raiders fans seem to have bought into the idea that Vegas is their second (or third?) home. If I was a Raiders fan, they and the NFL would have been dead to me in 1982, when they moved to LA. Don’t understand the mentality of Oakland sports fans.
Raiders fans are not normal fans. I used to root for both the Raiders and the 49ers until the Raiders moved to LA. Then, dead, and have rooted against them ever since, even after they came back to Oakland. I don't expect A's fans to follow the team in Las Vegas other than to possibly root against them. They don't really have any connection with the players anyway, since they tend to change out every few years.
I think he would have worked in a few "parallel paths" and "ROI's" in there, along with possibly some "steep rakes".
They look like they’re having a great time. Who’s the guy in the ill-fitting wrinkled light colored coat?
The Raiders have been so mobile over their lives, SF, Oakland, LA, Oakland, Vegas and so image based that their fan base is probably the only one that doesn’t care if they move to Odessa, Texas as long as they’re still the Silver and Black Raiders.
Very few A’s fans are goin to stick with the team. And Kaval is not setting them up to grow a replacement fan base in Vegas with 4pm game start times designed to cater to tourists.
Are they catering to tourists or the 80 and over crowd with the 4pm start? ‘Cause when your bedtime is 8pm…
Don’t Nancy Thomas’ neighbor’s kids go to bed at 8:30pm on Saturday nights? GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Apparently they did have a good time. Sounds like they garnered the necessary support https://www.si.com/mlb/athletics/ne...t-to-rally-support-for-their-vegas-relocation
To be fair, I have a difficult time getting wound up in the Philadelphi/Kansas City/Oakland/Lost Wages A's saga. Teams that move suck a$$ period. Give me the Packers, the Bears, the Cubs, etc. over crap like the "Houston Earthquakes" (Dynamo - which is in itself a joke). LA Lakers...Sheesh!
Well successful business is not always fun or happy. Now they have to figure out how to build that thing in that god-forsaken place and try to convince people to show up, and then figure out where they’ll play for the next 4 years while getting run out of town by an angry mob in Oakland. Fun times! If they’d stayed in Oakland it could have been smiles around. We’re staying in Oakland like we said we would and continuing the legacy of the franchise. Done! But no, ROI!!
The Raiders appeal to a specific type of fan, not just those in Oakland. There are still LA Raiders fans, not Oakland Raiders fans. Fans without a country, as it were. You will probably be able to count the number of A's fans in Oakland on one hand after they move.
