Well, this team's defense was too shitty to resist a decent opponent. Gomez, Di Lollo, Giay and Aviles are mediocre and Barco needs to hit the gym if he wants a career.

The goalie was quite poor but it may be due to age so I won't say that he'll turn out bad.

Veliz was the best player of the team all tournament. 4 solid games. Romero and Redondo complete the podium.
Expected more from Carboni today but maybe he wasn't playing at 100%.

Mascbe is a melon head that needs to be removed. The U17s play like Scaloni's team. He is going to get a hold of them and ruin their progression.

I think that in the next few days will start to hear about other managers that could be consider and then we will hear rumors about Masche stepping down, and then it will be over for him.

All credit to the super eagles, but we clearly under-performed in this tournament and in very tourney that Mascherano has been the manager. With the right manager we could've easily taken this tournament and made a statement; chances blown now.

I've been a supporter of Tapia since he became president of AFA and think that he has made all the correct decisions, but this is a crossroad for him. I want to see decisive and immediate changes that won't delay the Youth Progress.

This youth team reminds me of the previous disastrous era’s of the national team. Good players individually, especially attacking players but zero quality defenders and absolutely lack of defensive structure. They don’t look like a team, just bunch of decent individual players forced to play as a team.

I'm convinced now that they have no idea what they are doing at youth level anymore. Mascherano has been in charge for over a year and half - his results have been abysmal.
Tapia needs to be called a failure with his decisions at this level now.

If Mascherano is to stay, his supporting coaching staff needs crazy amount of improvement. I hate to take ANYTHING away from the senior team, but Aimar should be sent to the youth team and improve the offense. Maybe goals would improve the situation.

Man, I hate this feeling. . . it feels slightly like 2016 again . .. hello darkness my old friend

The more I think about this, the more upset I get. Again, I am not sure what the AFA is thinking by allowing Mascherano to continue. He has no idea how to develop these kids nor has a set game plan. We blew a golden opportunity and lost to a sorry ass team.

Looking at the roster and seeing who can make the jump to the senior side in the future if they continue to progress. Some will be no-brainers and other could be fringe players.

Redondo- I do not think there is any question. The sooner they incorporate him, the better. He impressed with Miramón(Another one to keep your eye on). A lot more so than the highly rated Perrone and sure as hell than Tanlongo who was beyond average in this tournament.

Carboni. I think he’s got a lot of talent. He still need to work on his shooting. But his movement and passing are nice. I hope Inter use him. And I think they will. But he is probably years away from joining the senior side.

Barco- Honestly, he has all the tricks in the world. But as other have mentioned, his size is concerning. We are lacking in this department, so a push will be made.

Luka- A great shot and is willing to work. My only concern with him is…He’s kinda slow. He does not have first step where he could blow past by defenders. It even seems at this age, Messi at 35-36 is faster than a 18 year old Romero. But I think he is full of potential with a great shot. I just hope he moves somewhere where he could showcase his talent.

Veliz- His size and strength in the air is something you cannot teach. He’s a traditional 9, which some are saying is coming back to fashion. Now, will he be a full on stater in the future ? I do know and probably not. He will probably be in Europe soon and it all depends on his progression. If he does, he could perhaps be similar to a Gio Simeone, maybe a bit more. Just keep your eye on over the years.

Aguirre- He’s a tricky and full of talent. But his decision making and headless chicken approach annoys me. He’ll be in Europe but he needs to learn the game. If he iron out these problems, he could become a useful player.

I saw absolutely nothing from the CBs and goal keepers that made me think this kid is something nice. Just Benny Hill-esque style defending v Nigeria. Flat footed, slow to react, no grit, nothing that embodies the Argentine CB. Thank goodness we have that department secured with the senior side with Licha, Cuti, Medina, Perez, Senesi. I’m sure a few more will pop-up sooner or later.

Moreover, I think there is plenty of young talent among us. Garnacho, of course and Madrid are raving about Paz and Facundo at Brighton(Even though I’m a bit concerned he won’t have Alexis’ leadership and tutelage next season). I’m not worried about the talent, I’m more worried at the direction of the Sub 20s with that bozo in charge. Well, I’m excited to see the Sub 17s in the fall. Let’s hope we do much better because this was and is a bitter pill to swallow:

Why the hell would you continue with a guy that was all set to give up after failing to qualify? Doesn't make any sense unless they really thought he was sooooo much better this go around.

Totally agree with your sentiment @SupaMario - I didn't see much of a plan or tactics.

Mascherano was a defensive player, but the goals Nigeria scored were due to complete breakdown/mistakes of the Argentinean defense. The one thing Mascherano is supposed to give us, a great defense, he was not able to. And the offense was not better. Other than Romero hitting the post, nothing much.

It really felt like we were trying to win purely on talent and not on tactics. Which is a mistake.

    What a disappointment.

Anyone else find the American forums (u20 version) reading the posts nauseating? I know a couple of you post/read there.

They are so sure they can win this tournament. Their group was pretty damn easy, like ours.

Where are you seeing that? They were extremely negative imo even while smashing New Zealand, lol. I did see some crapping on Uruguay but they really didn't look good at all today if we're being honest

Well now Mascherano managed to damage an entire forthcoming generation of destroyers.
He must be stopped. He has no shame whatsoever. Come on, our country needs us again.

So Mascherano is going to manage the u-23 for the pre-olympic and the next u-20 with Echeverri, Prestianni, Santi López, etc. What a shame.
