For this new UEFA silverware race the contenders are in a hot pursuit with each other.
PSV won the Dutch Cup, which gives them the ticket for the EL play off round.
If PSV ends up as second in the league, this ticket moves to nr 3 in the league. Nr 4 in the league then gets the ticket for the 3d qualifying round of the Conference League. Nr 5 till 8 play a play off for the ticket for the 2nd qualifying round of the Conference League.

If PSV ends up 3d, the same scenario takes place, but now with either AZ or Ajax taking the CL qualifying round.

If PSV ends up 4th, they still have the ticket for the EL qualifying round, but now nr 3 will have to do with the ticket for the 3d qualifying round of the Conference League.

    upload_2023-5-1_15-22-44.png
If AZ wins the Conference League, and is 3d or 4th in the league, they get a direct spot in the EL, but the league spot is gone, it's not going to number 5.

    Now in this next case:
AZ wins the Conference League and finishes outside the top 4
If this unlikely, but still possible, scenario becomes true, a gigantic puzzle will arise. AZ will play playoffs anyway, but that clashes with the Conference League final. Assuming that the KNVB solves this, the following will arise: if AZ wins the play-offs and the European final, AZ will convert the ticket of the second preliminary round Conference League into participation in the group stage of the Europa League. If AZ doesn't win the playoffs, the winner logically grabs the ticket to the second qualifying round. AZ will then enter the Europa League as the winner of the Conference League. The Netherlands will have 6 tickets instead of 5. This is in line with Rule 3.09 of the Regulations of the UEFA Europa League.

  2. Still possible for AZ to get into the final, and if so, there could be an unexpected opponent.

Ex-Feyenoorder Wouter Burger surprises with Basel in semi-final at Fiorentina Conference LeagueFC Basel has laid an excellent foundation for the final of Conference League. The Swiss beat Stadio Artemio Franchi Fiorentina 2-1. At Basel, Wouter Burger, former player of Feyenoord, Excelsior and Sparta, was in the starting line-up. He was changed just before time. The 22-year-old Burger has been playing in Switzerland since 2021. Sports Editors 5/12/23, 9:58 AM

The end of the season is closing in but who are Europe’s most in-form sides as we continue down the home straight? It’s the latest Power Rankings.

    10. Lens ()
With seven wins from their last eight, and a sole defeat coming against PSG, Lens are up to second in Ligue 1 after beating Marseille and are on course to enter next season’s Champions League.

They boast Ligue 1’s meanest defence and last weekend’s 2-1 victory was just their latest impressive performance, with Loïs Openda neting yet again. He now has 19 league goals this season. One to watch this summer.

    9. Porto ()
With six league wins in a row and another two in the cup, Porto squeeze their way into the Power Rankings. A lot of those wins have been tight but it’s been enough to close the gap at the top and reach the Taça de Portugal final.

Benfica may remain in the driving seat in the title race over in Portugal but Porto are making it clear they’re there, ready and waiting for a slip.

    8. Feyenoord ( Last week: 9)
Heading towards the title is one thing, doing it like this is something else entirely. The Eredivisie title race has become a procession, with Feyenoord now up to 11 league wins in a row.

Mexican striker Santiago Giménez has now scored in eight league matches in a row, netting nine in total across that time, emerging out of nowhere to become one of Europe’s most prolific strikers.

It’s little wonder boss Arne Slot is being linked with moves elsewhere.

    7. Atlético de Madrid ( Last week: 3)
A slide but through no fault of their own — Atleti simply haven’t played since last week thanks to the Copa del Rey final taking centre stage in Spain over the weekend.

    6. Newcastle ( Last week: 2)
Newcastle, the team who have seen the ball in play the least of any Premier League side this season, had a little taste of their own medicine as they lost 2-0 to Arsenal last weekend but proved once again they can mix it with the best.

The Gunners became just the second team to win at St James’ Park all season and made it two defeats in five for the Magpies, but three wins sandwiched in between, and another five before the loss at Aston Villa, mean it would take a huge surprise to stop them finishing in the top four.

    5. Inter ()

Well, what do we have here? Simone Inzaghi was previously in trouble but Inter are suddenly on a roll, booking a place in the Coppa Italia final, dominating their Milan rivals in Wednesday’s Champions League semi-final first leg, and winning four on the bounce in Serie A.

A six-game winning run across all competitions includes games against Juventus, Lazio, Roma and Milan and has seen Inter concede just once, and they’ve risen from sixth to fourth in the league in that time.

    4. RB Leipzig ( Last week: 7)
Two wins over SC Freiburg, both away from home, saw Leipzig advance into the DFB-Pokal final and then jump to third in the Bundesliga.

Christopher Nkunku is not just fully fit again but has immediately found top form, while things have been surprisingly steady at the back as well. With six wins from their last seven, they look set to end the season strongly.

    3. Liverpool ( Last week: 6)

Surely they won’t, will they? With six wins in a row and teams above them dropping more points than expected, the Champions League dream somehow remains alive for Liverpool.

A season kickstarted by that comeback against Arsenal, the Reds have found a formula for success, following up some goal-heavy end-to-end wins with a pair of 1-0s at Anfield. Those clean sheets will have no doubt thrilled Jürgen Klopp.

    2. Real Madrid ( Last week: 8)

Real Madrid have been inconsistent in LaLiga all season but they will not care right now after a week to remember.

First came the Copa del Rey final and a Rodrygo-inspired 2-1 win over Osasuna. Then, on Tuesday, they showed they can still mix it with the best with an impressive performance in the 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

It hasn’t been plain sailing this season, especially domestically, but their quality can never be doubted.

There’s nothing left to say. They dominate every week, and even when they’re up against the ropes for once in Madrid there’s a moment of magic from Kevin De Bruyne to level things up.

In all competitions it’s now 21 without defeat, a run including 17 wins, as City continue their march towards a potential treble.

    5. Winnaar play-offs -> Tweede voorronde Conference League

  6. For Ajax it would be beneficial if AS Roma with Mourinho wins the EL final and ends as 5th or 6th in the Serie A. In that case Ajax is exempt from playing qualifiers and automatically goes into the group stage.

  10. I just saw a clip, in which a Sevilla attacker was tripped in the box after the defender just touched the ball away an instant before that contact. As players do, he made the most of that trip to get a penalty, but the ref didnot buy it. So moron Mourinho jumps on the pitch waving his hand in a card gesture. What a piece of shit he has become.

    Mourinho thanks for nothing.
Pitiful match with outrageous behavior afterwards by The Special One.
Uefa need to crackdown and give him a lengthy suspension.
Simply embarrassing, and the shite football on display was pathetic.
Ajax season now complete after this despicable match, and condemned to the Europa League Playoffs.
Side note some guy Ocampos for Sevilla looked pretty decent at times.
    Just ridiculous that whole saga.
    Awful Ajax season this.

  12. I watched the highlights of the EL final. Looking at those 15 minutes it must have been a piss poor match.
Man, if our match in Rome had just about two minutes shorter and gotten into the final I think we would have a big chance to win it.
I wonder what would be the rules in that case. Would the CL spot go to Sevilla, as Feyenoord already had a CL spot as Dutch champions or could Feyenoord go into the CL as EL winner and the Eredivisie group stage spot go to PSV etc.

  13. Edit: of course there was still the semi final to go through to get there. Got to keep the facts correct:D

  14. PSV possible opponent is one of these: Racing Genk (België), Sturm Graz (Oostenrijk), Panathinaikos (Griekenland), Servette FC Genève (Zwitserland), FK Dnipro (Oekraïne) en TSC Backa Topola (Servië).
Hope one of the last 2.

As an aside, Ake wasn't playing very well imho.

  21. Fun fact, it's the 3d time a club beating Inter in the Final also makes the treble. Celtic (1966/67) and Ajax (1971/72) did the trick against Inter before ManCity.

  23. At least it wasnot a match like I read about the Conference League and the Europa League Finals, with time waisting and players throwing tantrums and antics.
