Ran into Bailey at the place where I run into everyone: Grandview Market District Giant Eagle. Complimented her work. I don't think she was prepared for that random interaction.
Bez very open about the issues with breaking down a low block, but says it will be solved. Sounds like he wants The Cup. https://www.dispatch.com/story/spor...-assesses-seasons-first-10-games/70176493007/
Bez: "Really excited to go through this next phase of the season where it’s extremely congested and teams will be tested," Bezbatchenko said. "I think that we have some depth on our team, but we’ll see. Over the next 10 or so games, I think the questions that we will ask of ourselves are: are we able to solve that low block? And then, how do we deal with and rotate players through the congested period? Which players sort of come along and shine, and really step up when they’re called upon, whether that’s in the U.S. Open Cup or in MLS play." He sounds optimistic but if we are honest this roster does not have the depth. If we win it won’t be because of a deep and talented roster. But at least Bez didn’t say we have one of the best rosters in MLS. But I wish he said we plan to make a few additions here and there as needed to continue to trend in the right direction. Also wish he talked about the injuries like Bill and maybe talked briefly about the salary cap and what kind of options we face ( due to his mistakes - dead weight )
I think that's an incredibly subjective statement and betrays your Eurosnobbery more than anything you've said in a long time. I, personally, am not sure any Bundesliga team has a deep roster. Sheesh.
Occasionally, a few MLS teams per season have some real depth. But it’s undeniable that this Crew team certainly does not have depth. Maybe if every player under contract was healthy we’d have a bit of depth at a couple of positions. But, of course, that’s neither the case now, nor it it likely to be in the foreseeable future. It’s bizarre that Bez would say something like that.
It's due to the salary cap (and some of our injury rules vis-a-vis the cap), not to any Eurosnobbery. And some BL teams don't have a deep roster. My Gladbach is about to find that out. Edit: Mind you, it probably is a bit subjective, but what post here isn't--a bit.
There are like five teams in the world that have true depth: The perennial UEFA Champions League contenders. Literally every other team is just trying to be deeper than the teams they're competing against every week.
Well, those teams do have second teams and deeper levels that that at various youth and young adult levels. We don't have that. Yet. But I do think we're getting there. Crew 2 will help. Has helped, actually.
My biggest concern is right back , Center-back and outside back in general with Farsi injured ( no update ?) and Sands out for the year. Plus I hear Medranda is not 100% which is probably why we got Amundsen. They also may view Jake Morris more of LCB than LWB ( I know I do after seeing him play ) . Also Moreira is at RCB and maybe Nancy doesn’t seem him as a RWB or maybe it’s just because we lack depth at CB. Josh Williams is still hurt and we didn’t land a CB or two that we thought might land during the last window. We play a high line and ask the defense to hold the ball and be brave building out of the back. So we can’t just force start young guys who are in over their head or out of position like Jake Morris & Fuson .Perhaps they will come off the bench and and see some first team minutes and ease into MLS. Also We have a young GK so that’s a lot of inexperience in the back end.
You don’t take your best defender (Moreira) and move him out of position, especially when that position is central. Jake Morris isn’t MLS quality, he just isn’t. Not yet, at least. Big difference between him and guys like Farsi and Sands. Arfsten played wingback v Indy. We don’t play with wingers, so if he wants to play that’s his spot. And based on what Nancy has already shown us, he’s the next man up.
Yeah i didn’t say we should move Moreira but if we only have enough healthy players and it forces him back there it is what it is. My point is we need more Cb & outside backs . Moreira did just fine at RB in porters system but with Nancy it seems like Moreira is better fit at RCB. Farsi should be back but he is injured and right now we have limited options one of which is definitely putting Moreira at RWB and move Degenek or Vallecilla to RCB.
Arfsten makes more sense than Fuson. But just seems like we need to add a RB & Cb to the roster. A healthy Josh Williams would help but I really think we need a left footed starter type at LCB. I doubt we keep a Vallecilla he doesn’t pass well and maybe would do better on the right side.
Dispatch must pay worse than Northstar I’m afraid that would be a downgrade. https://t.co/Y9h1tM0NEa— Jacob Myers (@_jcmyers) June 1, 2023
I think he was being self-effacing there. But, journalism at a Gannett shop is a tough path right now. Sadly, the path that the majority of city papers are on.
I always say that Gannett isn't the problem, just the symptom; they bought up a zillion papers that would otherwise be shuttered by now. The resultant product sucks but in most cases it's better than nothing, which is mostly the alternative. And if someone dislikes Gannett owning their paper, well, wait ten years and they won't. No one will. There's just no money in it. As for Myers, I believe you're correct; he's giving kudos to Bailey.
Wall-to-Wall Sports gave their first ten minutes tonight to the Crew, how they did vs Chicago and the awesome goal...some time spent talking about FCC. T-Bone gave a "Kentucky FC" shootout. He mentioned how Robbie Rogers "took David Beckham off his cleats" and how big the Lionel Messi signing is.
I know how positive the opinions are on the Dispatch on this board, but since they lost their intrepid soccer reporter, does anybody know a way that I potentially could write for them until they get a more permanent reporter? I’m free literally 24/7 and I wasn’t able to find out where to apply specifically to write for the crew on their website. I know they have a smorgasbord of temporary reporters that don’t care at all about the crew so I figure it’s worth a shot since I actually care about the product I’m writing about. I know it’s a super long shot, but it wouldn’t hurt! Thanks in advance
Isn't former Crew beat reporter Adam Jardy back on it permanently (or as permanently as things are at the Dispatch).
