He wouldn’t. One year deals are for guys in their 30s. If we offer him a one year deal he’ll reject it because he’ll have much better offers on the table.
One thing I don’t really see anyone talking about is the age of the players that make up the spine of our team. It’s going to be a problem soon. Our starting midfield are all over 30 or close to it (Bruno is 29 I believe), Varane is over 30, and if we were to buy Kane he’ll be over 30. That midfield age is a worry. We need to be asking possible replacements each window so they have time to bed in behind the starters. We’re don’t want to have to replace an entire midfield in a year like Pool are about to need.
i mean it was mentioned barely 10 pages ago https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/transfer-window-talk.2117913/page-132#post-41334783
This is why we should be looking at Lavia as the future replacement to Casc, look to buy a young CB. To be our fourth one and grow into first choice as Varane ages out. I think Rabiot on a free has the right age profile to play eight and we have a couple in the academy with the potential to play in the midfield. There are solid options out there it's just I wish our front office had a clue. Like all of us can see this and I think about future planning and the guys who are paid to actually do it are like blind.
Manchester United have been clear with players who are not part of future project. 🔴 #MUFCBailly, returns and then will leave.Telles, returns and then will leave.Phil Jones, leaves on free transfer.Alex Tuanzebe, leaves on free transfer.…and there will be more outgoings. https://t.co/66gbTrTzIR— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) May 29, 2023
Been thinking this exact same thing since the start of the season. If there's some truth to the resports of our interest in Kim MJ, our defence won't be an issue. But we should be looking at Romeo Lavia, now that Southhampton have been relegated.
MEN (Luckhurst) reporting we have halved the price of Elanga and are looking to sell for around £10m. Had kinda forgotten about him, but as the piece correctly points out, he has been overlooked last few months for playing time. Given he was getting pt earlier in the season it would appear that Erik has reached the conclusion that he does not see him as part of our future. Given his performances, then think most fans would agree that he just doesn't have it at this level. https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...news/man-united-transfer-news-elanga-27024052
Get whatever you can for him. He’s the same age profile as Diallo, Pellestri, and Garnacho and all three are significantly better than him.
Jason Burt (Telegraph) reporting that United has agreed to personal terms with Mount and are now expected to sign him - no idea how credible this is
Telegraph are pretty decent and they aren’t quoting another source. So I’d say it has legs. Can’t understand this one other than ETH maybe wanting to play dual 8s and liking his workrate. Hell, maybe our scouts actually see something we don’t.
Statman Dave did a mostly positive vid on him to a I posted a few pages back on why EtH likes him and how he would fit in (below). Howsen did a negative piece and for example referenced (given his form this season) he could be another Dele Alli. Dave makes some good points, but I lean more towards Howson’s take tbh. Especially on how much money it is likely to take and how large a % of our budget is likely to be when other more pressing positions need recruitment. If you look through the lens of the rumblings of Greenwood coming back making striker less pressing (pun intended) then makes more sense (eg possible false #9 or 2nd #8 in move to 4-3-3 etc) - even if I disagree with the signing I can see the logic. Howson link (cant embed as was a live stream). https://www.youtube.com/live/JZMjHg_FJ_I?feature=share
You really think Greenwood comes back? I just can’t see it. United love sponsors and that would damage too many relationships in that regard. As for Mount, the one thing I’ll say in his favor his he does have a top level season under his belt. So it is something he can do. Last season he had 10 goals and 11 assists in the league which is pretty damn good. If we get him, we have to hope that this season was just a blip in his ascension similar to Rash last season. But I still don’t see it unless he’s a depth piece for like 30 mil.
I would be surprised. However I was also surprised to hear EtH say a few days ago that Mason is exactly the kind of striker we need before then saying decision for club etc. Not hard to imagine Erik has asked the club to make the call on Mason before pre-season. Also not hard to imagine the club will want to kick the can down the road while the takeover stuff is ongoing. If you follow the money, reportedly we are offering over £50m for Mount and Chelsea are asking for £80m. So would probably wipe out half our likely transfer budget for an attacking mid before we have signed a striker, DM or CB. Unless a rich sugar daddy has a bag of cash this is confusing to me …. unless they are thinking of bringing Mason back as an (effectively free) striker. Probably putting 2 and 2 together to make 5 But was interesting to see EtH break the silence on the issue at this particular time. Maybe the PR team putting a toe in the water ….
absolutely not regarding Mount. the simple way to look at it is whether he is a piece that brings you closer to the league or champions league and the answer is a resounding NO. buying him and especially at these stupid prices quoted would be a Maguire throwback - average for elite money
🚨 Manchester United have held extensive discussions over potential transfers for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani.Hojlund is the likelier of the two to sign at this stage. 🇩🇰 (Source: @lauriewhitwell ) pic.twitter.com/8Q1jgK4SSf— Transfer News Live (@DeadlineDayLive) June 1, 2023
If this is a backup striker, I like it. If it’s an alternative to Kane or Osimhen, it’s a huge gamble.
There is no way we spend more than 50 mil on Mount. If we do, we have the worst negotiators of all time working here. He’s coming off a terrible season, wants to leave, they want to sell, and he only has a year left on his contract. Those things do not equate to 50-80 mil.
But we do have the worst negotiators of all time Can't remember the last time with a known name transfer where I thought - wow good deal for us. We always end up paying near to the top of the reported expectations it seems
Agree it'd be a very big gamble. One thing I will say, is that going this route will allow even more development time and opportunity for Garnacho. I'm okay if Rashford continues too see a fair chunk of time at 9 in certain games. Especially if that means more minutes for Garnacho at LWF. Getting a Kane type could really hinder game time for others who need it, as both Kane and Rashford should expect to start nearly all the time.
Hojlund is cheaper. Interesting if we sign him. Would be another from Atalanta (Diallo). Muani I think he will end up at PSG.
Would be a good compliment to Mbappe. Can play anywhere in the front line, so allows Mbappe more freedom. We were never spending £60mil on him, despite impressive season and impressive world cup.
