The Netherlands WNT has added a friendly in July against Belgium, which will probably be their last game before the WWC starts: 📢 𝙆𝙖𝙖𝙧𝙩𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙠𝙤𝙤𝙥 𝙜𝙚𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙩! 💯⚔️ #NEDBEL🗓 2 juli, 20:45 CET 📍 Kerkrade🎟🎟 https://t.co/91lH6eARu6 #NothingLikeOranje pic.twitter.com/B7uCZR41JV— OranjeLeeuwinnen (@oranjevrouwen) April 13, 2023 I haven't seen that Portugal WNT have added a friendly closer to the WWC, but I assume they will.
for those that don't think woso's popuarity hasn't grown in Europe over the last decade..... Arsenal Women (@ArsenalWFC) / Twitter
Good article trying to figure out how Sarina will recreate the magic of last summer. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_...-cup-kirby-mead-williamson-injuries-lionesses
yup. This part stresses the need to look beyond the numbers!! "What made Kirby different in her role was the timing of her runs and good decision-making -- her ability to know what the right weight and choice of pass is, or what kind of run is best in the moment. Though a lot of statistics may not rank Kirby high offensively -- her 0.44 attempted take-ons per 90 minutes at the Euros, per stats company FBref, puts her in the lower end of the scale -- her contributions were much more off the ball than on it. Her style of play is better gauged by passing the eye test than any specific metric, and in order to replace Kirby, Wiegman needs to find someone as influential off the ball as she is."
here is England's just announced roster, the big story is that Mead & Kirby are not coming along with the more recent Williamson injury. Bright & Bronze make it despite also being out too the last couple of months Germany's squad, though they'll have to reduce it by an further 5.
There is a thread in the WWC forum for all the teams' rosters and discussion of those rosters. I'd suggest not duplicating that thread and its discussion with all the WWC teams' rosters here, but limiting this thread to actual group stage opponents at this point. Please. on group opponent watch; Vietnam won what was described as "an hard fought 2-1 win over Frankfurt's u20 squad" last week Portugal will take on England at Wembley, July 1st. Good warm up gme for the Portgese, but I;m hearing that England's getting an hard time getting their players released early from WSL clubs, so they might not be up to par Netherlands will play their half dopplegangers, Belgium, July 2nd
got to be cocerning for the Dutch, their already missing their superstar, Miedema, but arguably their 2nd best player, former Balon d'or winner, Lieke Martens, had an poor season at PSG(she's usually a left slide winger)
Martens was outstanding for Barcelona but her game has really fallen off the last couple of years. She's had a lot of injuries in the last 3/4 years: that factor, along with her age (30) have no doubt taken a toll. The Dutch need her to be at her best again in the WC, but that level looks like a memory at this point in her career. The Dutch will be a team to watch-- but without Miedema scoring could be difficult. The team will lean on Beerensteyn at forward--and while is has good pace and athleticism, her finishing skills are mediocre.
Well, no need to fret: she literally said that she's now ok, in the video interview you posted. By the way, which part of England Alex Greenwood is? I am not a native speaker, so I could be wrong, ber her accent seem peculiar to me.
Lioness social media claiming an sell out at Wembley for the England/Portugal friendly this Saturday. The game will telecast on CBS Sports Network at 10.15 AM eastern time
Thanks for the heads up. Although my handy dandy DISH Network guide has this Match being televised on CBSSN at 4 pm CT (tape delay) In any case, the cultural, political, football and social significance of this Match will be totally dependent on whether our Z-man will be in attendance.
nope… Z-man is having to go to a kids birthday party. However !! I am banking this show of family good will for later use down the line when I can cash in my chips for a USWNT match !!!
Yes, I had! Thanks for nothing! No, really, thanks for something I had never known before (never been to Liverpool and didn't know much about the town, apart the Beatles).
