Since Friday, or maybe Saturday, when the deal was clearly close, I haven't seen anything negative about Biden (or the Democrats). It has all been about whether McCarthy could convince his party to vote for the deal, and it really looks like several Reps are angry and wining and willing to crush the deal. But once it clears the committee, it's good.
This is an interesting thread about GOP's ongoing failure (so far) to destroy the safety net. Trump has created an even more difficult dynamic for elite GOP policy goals, because MAGA voters want to protect social security as their top priority. Ditto raising taxes on corporations and rich people has broad bi-partisan support. I actually suspect the GOP would end the filibuster next time they have power, in order to pass their whole agenda in one go, and likely just attempt to end democracy. The failed 2005 social security privatization is a key antecedent here. The lesson it taught Mitch McConnell is that conservative spending goals could only be achieved in a crisis environment that forced Democrats to vote for them, thus providing political cover to the GOP... https://t.co/PoIelC7kdq— Brian Beutler (@brianbeutler) May 31, 2023
It was also the likes of Joe Scarborough giving it credence too. I argued then that if it was true, there would be stories. It was obvious it wasn't when even Fox News wasn't touching it. Of course, I was also referring to a couple of posters here, including one who has white knight syndrome. Especially when more details about her personal life and how she behaved (Which proved that she was unreliable and had a history of such) came out.
Why are all these able bodies disincentivized from entering the economy? NEW: The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projects the debt ceiling deal will result in an EXPANSION of SNAP with an additional 78,000 people gaining benefits in an average month thanks to a negotiated carve-out for veterans, the unhoused and youths leaving foster care. pic.twitter.com/XcVKDEL0Xc— MeidasTouch (@MeidasTouch) May 31, 2023 Also, nice jujitsu move by Brandon qnd team to use the job requirements to actually help more people in need.
I was willing to giver her the benefit of the doubt at the time. But that lasted all of 3 days, or maybe a week, after it was clear she was not bringing any serious evidence, nobody was really backing her up, and Biden had substantial support. In the end, I got the impression she was being manipulated. Not sure if I ever said that here. And I fully agree that her behavior harmed real victims. Ugh, this is the stuff that needs to come out AFTER the bill has been signed, not before. This just puts an incentive on the Reps working harder to crater it. [edit - I mean the reporting, not the the CBO report.]
Russia, Russia, Russia. It simply further illustrates how Putin and Trump were in bed together. I'm not saying Trump orchestrated this, but rather that Putin was doing a lot of work behind the scenes to benefit Trump.
The NRA was/is in bed with Putey. Russia wants to destabilize the US and they have plenty of willing dupes here.
Wait till you see who Biden's lead negotiatiors were Can we take a moment and thank Louisa Terrell & Shalanda Young who were the lead negotiators for President Biden? These women are whip-smart, amazing, & the reason why we have a debt limit deal. We should all be incredibly grateful for their leadership & service. pic.twitter.com/dhmZ7TFsaE— Victor Shi (@Victorshi2020) May 31, 2023
Feel like there are a lot of people taking victory laps on this thing but it hasn't passed yet, I'd wait until it does!
Yeah. I'm skeptical of grand conspiracies so I wasn't really on board with Russia Everywhere All at Once, and I know I pushed back on Jitty a lot in those days. Still skeptical about grand conspiracies, but the Russian conspiracy makes Watergate look like a quaint affair. I knew about Young. Had flashbacks to Michael Hyatt on the West Wing.
It's gonna pass. Got by Chip Roy, has enough support in the House that Dems can join, and is sensible enough for the Senate.
If there were 4 GOP votes for it, it would pass. What will happen is McCarthy will count how many secure GOP votes he has, let Jeffries know, and Jeffries will allow c-amount of Dems to vote no. And the press will talk about how amazing this bipartisan legislation is and how the extremeS ON BOTH SIDES expressing displeasure are what is wrong with America, further normalizing hostage-taking by the GOP.
I don't think he gets enough credit for hiring a bunch of brilliant minds and just letting them do what the hell they're good at. This is Sir Alex bringing on Rene M and Quieroz and letting them run the team while he is DoF. He went on for how long as the head coach!?!
We have the 'conspiracy' set out in all it's gory detail these days via Mueller, Weismann, Strzok, Browder, WAPO, NYT etc etc etc The only thing we don't know, thanks to Trump's obstruction of justice, is exactly how explicit it was. The trouble with conspiracies, and especially involving nation states, is they don't exactly write down a contract. But what we do know, is that the Trump campaign was penetrated on multiple levels by agents of Russian intelligence and that being aware of the attack on the US, Trump publicly encouraged Putin to continue it. The fact that he did it openly is ironic when you consider the 'hoax' crowd.
Browder's book is excellent on this point. Back in 15/16 Washington was awash in Russia cash and operatives. So basically Putin was doing a lot of work to benefit Putin, and in particular that involved supporting anyone who might oppose the Magnitsky act and sanctions. I think the result of that work is a lot of useful idiots like Reade. I've said it before, but this is why the propaganda of the likes of Mate, Greenwald, Taibbi, all the way up to Tucker poisons a lot of heads.
Hunter Biden is truly a terrible son. Not just for this lawsuit, but is just one more example of how terrible he is for his father reputation. Hunter Biden will reportedly challenge a federal law that bans illegal drug users from owning guns if he's charged for buying a gun while being a crack user #ReasonRoundup https://t.co/rGQFeTSvgL— reason (@reason) June 2, 2023
