*Should* be a suspension for the coach IMO, but MLS has consistently not made that the precedent, and so it goes.
So would this be considered two missed KMIs in one play? Incorrectly gives a PK and incorrectly doesn't give a red card?
It's a decent question. PRO has messed around enough with how assessments work for it to be difficult to say it's impossible. But I think it's unlikely. From what I gather, it sounds like PRO settled on "okay, maybe you can justify it as in the penalty area but it still had to be red either way," and it is all the same incident, so I think it's just one missed KMI even if DFK was the preferred or correct outcome. But if PRO and/or the assessor really wanted to make a point and really didn't like the "I'm sticking with penalty" part of it? Sure, seems possible. Of course none of us are ever going to see the assessment first-hand, so will be close to impossible to ever know.
I agree. The DOGSO decision is the big issue. Trying to justify the touch as heavy after the player is fouled is not something I'd expect from an MLS ref.
How do they reverse that red in STL:HOU He pulled the man down from behind during a dead ball by the neck
