No way Gggg comes back. None. That ship has sailed, sunk, and been consumed by a kraken.

Gggg some things well, I’ll give you that. A Gold Cup trophy and the first Nations League trophy. Expanded the talent pool. Developed young players. Tried to change the US from a counterattacking and set piece team to a possession team. (Albeit with limited success).

But he only met expectations in Qatar (getting out of the group was the expectation). More importantly, his veiled swipe at Gio during his speech at whatever leadership conference that was is IMO primarily what sunk him. If you’ve built your program on trust and togetherness, then pull that kind of stunt, you’ve completely undermined yourself.

And basically the USSF needed to clean house. When your GM, TD, and manager were all teammates, you can’t have objective personnel discussions. And the whole Reyna-Berhalter thing is probably untenable. Best that the federation has moved on.

Haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere yet. Aidan Morris has Canadian roots somewhere apparently? Their center mids are older and the path to playing time seems clearer up north. We’ll see what happens.

A bit late, but I thought it was pretty well talked about that CONCACAF or USSF or whoever wanted 100% of the gate and parking and everything from the US v Mexico match. Which is why we turned it down and it went to TQL. We were actually offered it first. But Cincy was, of course, desperate to host it and get that "we're better than Cbus" narrative.

Unless this has been revealed to be false and I never heard about it.

I’d say the only thing I believe is false on this is that we were offered it first. There were a couple of cities bidding at same time on games. And the reason Cincy got it was they were willing to give a lot more of the revenue away to host the game. I wouldn’t say it was so much of a “we’re better than Columbus” narrative though. It was the chance to host the most high profile WCQ

Valencia beat Real Madrid 1-0 today. Yunus Musah came on in the 90th minute to waste time.

He’s been replaced in midfield by an academy player (Javi Guerra) and he’s also been replaced on the right wing, where he was sometimes played out of position, by another academy player (Diego López, the goalscorer).

Not great for him. Rubén Baraja is a terrible coach, but somehow he’s gonna get Valencia to survival, it would appear. Musah better get his agent working his contacts this summer, because he’s destined for the bench if he stays.

U-20s beat Fiji today. Slovakia lost to Ecuador, so a point against Slovakia would seal the group and advance them. Slovakia would maybe need to win unless the rest of the groups shake out that they are in a good 3rd position.

US keeper Ethan Horvath, on loan from Nottingham Forest, plays in the EFL Championship playoff final today as his Hatters (Luton Town) play Coventry City; the winner of course earns promotion to the Premiership next season. Match is on ESPN+.

Time for a new thread. The Berhalter era is over. The Nats have an interim coach to guide us through the Nations League Semis/Final and the 2023 Gold Cup.

To close that chapter and move on, I've pulled what's been posted since the Berhalter-Reyna discussion has died down and started a new thread here for non-Gggg Nats conversation. I'll leave the other thread open for any further discussions re: coach Over-holder. To carry on any discussions regarding Gggggg, you can go here.

U-20’s are in the knockout round. Nations League semis are in two week. Balogun commits to the US. Might Motor Boat is deciding. We are “very close” to having a new coach.
    Let’s go you Yanks!

Valencia needed a win today to guarantee safety. In the end they got a draw, which makes them about 99% safe.

Yunus Musah, who for the past month has been the guy that gets subbed on in the 90th minute to kill the last 5 minutes, didn’t even get on the field today. His biggest contribution was taking a ball from the ballboy on the sideline and telling him not to give it back to Espanyol so quickly next time.

He’ll be sold in the summer. Prepare for the EPL rumors, which is a shame because he’s not ready for the EPL. If he goes, he’ll be a bench guy, at best.

New Zealand was rumored a month or two ago, as was Oman.

By the time we actually get to the Gold Cup, Bill Archer will be coaching the USMNT. :D

Finding a new head coach for the USMNT appears to be limited to gathering all their assistants into a room -- then asking those that have domestic violence or harassment issues to leave, followed by a round robin Rock-Paper-Scissors tournament between those left.

I'd imagine the press conferences would look something like this:

Why would you go outside the organization to find a short term interim coach in the middle of your process of finding a full time, long term head coach?

Your question worked with the first short term interim coach. Now that we are on a short term interim-interim coach, the optics aren't all that great.

Not really lol you have a window two weeks away. Of course it was going to be an in house assistant.

I still think people were asleep at the switch to be blindsided by this move. Regardless, the response was to get everyone we have in the building together, play rock-paper-scissors, and dub the winner our new interim-interim head coach.
