Rumour has it that he may be forced to sell. Follow that link.

Donald Trump wants another Open Championship to be played at his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland, but organizers are adamant that his course will not be considered while it's owned by him, the Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.

Perhaps a large proportion of the American South could be easily convinced to go there with Trump, if he can’t convince the country that he won the vote next “October or June ‘25”

Why leave when Conservative conspiracy sources are pushing that the US Constitution makes it legal for its citizens to overthrow the government.. You'd think that all the people being convicted for Jan6 would be enough to show that was false, but, nope, they are going hard on the "it's legal!"

Jack Smith may be going beyond investigating Trump's handling of classified documents and may be looking into election fraud. Namely, the firing of the Election Security Expert that declared the election was secure and Trump and his campaign officials in the various fake electors.

Shouldn't they already be doing something to prevent him from committing more crimes and having the process start before he is the GQP nominee?

None of the crimes he's being currently investigated for would prevent him from being President. He can be literally sitting in prison and still run for President and be elected. The only requirements to be President are that they be natural born, reside in the US for 14 years, and be 35. There is the disqualification clause in the 14th, but none of the current crimes rise to an insurrection or rebellion.

So I know this tweet is about the tapes….but it has a picture of the documents that there was an interesting tweet thread about last week (that I meant to post and lost it)

Someone with knowledge of the TS cover sheets pointed out that the cover sheets are printed full bleed (color all the way to the edge….see the buried sheet at the top left). Printers and copiers generally cannot print or copy full bleed….you have to print on a larger sheet and trim to size. The person alleged that these were color copies…and that the inclusion of the ruler in this evidence picture was to show these were actually copies of the documents(when you copy a full bleed printed image…the copier will down size it and create a border)…not the originals.

So…this person alleged that not only did trump have those documents….this is evidence that he made copies.

He is so going to die in jail.

I know it feels good to think that; but the commentariat at large here has said "he's done" SO MANY TIMES and it's never panned out that way, so you should know better than to believe such a thing until it actually happens.

Geez. The Nixon tapes are going to turn out to be just a demo. The Trump recordings are going to be chart toppers.

There is no way Donald Trump will ever spend one minute in jail, for the same general reasons why Nixon was pardoned. To have a former president in jail, regardless of the legitimate reasons to do so, would politically destroy this county. For Trump's supporters he would become a martyr, illegally jailed by the deep state, and there would be no dealing with them ever again. Let alone the violence that would ensue.

So you do what should probably have been done with Nixon in the first place. You put him to trial. You air every piece of evidence you have on him. You convict him, you make sure that history knows exactly the type of person he is, and then you pardon him. It is the only option to remotely try to move on from him as a country. I don't necessarily like it, but it is what it is.

Besides, for someone like Trump (whose perceived influence in the world is more important than anything), destroying his reputation, his name, would harm him more than any prison sentence ever could.

Let him rot in jail. Let the traitors out themselves. Let’s solve this now instead of allowing the resentment and idiocy fester for another 100years, ruining my children’s and their children’s lives.

There's no dealing with them now. Not jailing him because of who he is would be peak banana republic.

I've never understood the willingness to believe it was all just Trump being Trump. The guy is a known crook with a long history of fraudulent dealings.

Right now, even as popular as he is, Trump's influence dies when he does. You jail him (and especially if he dies in jail), you turn him into something like the right's Che Guevara. Maybe people will forget what exactly he stood for, but the right would still revere him. Wear his face on their shirts. Put his poster on their walls in their dorms. He'd never truly be gone.

You want to punish Donald Trump? Hit him where it really hurts? You do whatever you can to make sure the man is forgotten. Some minor footnote. To someone like him, there is no worse punishment. But you can't do that if you make him the country's first jailed president. However long the country lasts, any time you learn about the presidents, he'd be one of the most notable. So try him, document his sins for us and historians and scholars and anyone who really cares know what exactly what kind of man he was. For everyone else? Just a name on a list.

I am possibly beyond the @diablodelsol stage of how does democracy get saved / disgust with Garland

I found it interesting that Tom Nichols, a pretty level headed Reaganite, was saying if it is fascism, then we are past the BAU phase of just letting the legal system play out. You need to start suspending some civil liberties and rooting out the fascists. You can't just let them try to actively bring down democracy because 1A. This is what happened in the WOT for example.

So the disagreement seems to be more what phase are we at

IMO we are past the institutionalist opportunity to end this. Indeed if you look at the UK, the difference is pretty stark. Democratic guardrails held much better there, in the form of voters getting ready to punish them heavily, and the Courts not going along with insanity.

I don't think punishing Trump stops this anymore. The GOP is too far gone at grassroots.

Ford's pardon was treachery against the rule of law & the American people. And if Trump sold or was attempting to sell secrets, he cannot remain a free man.
