Almost all the clubs do this for non official tournaments. If there's a 5% chance they need him and are trying to qualify for Europe they will keep him at the club. If Watkins got hurt he would be important instantly so that's all they care about, it's a business and that's how they make their decisions. If they had another back up 9 or there was nothing to play for at all he'd probably have gone. FIFA should make the tournament at the end of the season tbh.
or just make them loan out the players. They did at some point im sure. Thats why I was confused when I saw people being rejected since this is a FIFA tournament
Oh no but trust that emery is just not rushing him , and duran is just happy to be on the bench and observing. This is all part of the plan! come on we can’t believe this story lol
Wait. Are you saying you in Emery's position would have sat Watkins as he powered them up the table and qualified them into a European tournament for the first time in 13 years? Duran played the most games as a sub of any Villa player in history NOT TO GET a start in the second half of this season. They just weren't going to sit Watkins. Jhon Duran has played the most matches (12) in a single Premier League season without starting a single game for Aston Villa.Only Adama Traore and Didier Agathe have played more Premier League minutes for Villa in the PL without ever starting a game than Duran. #avfc | #utv |… pic.twitter.com/QJdEi94jPl— Aston Villa Statto (@AVFCStatto) May 26, 2023 Obviously, is not ideal for his development but I don't see how it can be argued that it doesn't make sense under the circumstances or reflect poorly in Duran. As I've said before no one thought Villa would play out the season a they did. If they had he prob would have gotten loaned in Jan. They were in 17th place when they signed him and expecting to have plenty of meaningless games to blood him in and instead played like ten finals in a row to close out. And if anything had happened to Watkins, he'd of been needed for the last few games that ended up being decisive, which is why he wasn't released. Anyway, the future is bright for Duran. If Emery can do with him what he has done with Ollie, awesome. If they loan him, he'll crush it and have gotten solid minutes subbing in the most competitive league in the world at 19.
mehhhh....he only played a little more than 100 minutes and you were celebrating his "traingin skills"...nothing to celebrate or be glad.....emery is a ratbag not borrow him when he didnt used. He was playing as starter before for for two years and performing well....he is 19, but he left amateur football long time ago....now that he isnt playing isnt good...............stop saying that he is lucky to be there as if he went there for charity......he ********ing scored with NT agisnt a wc team, isnt a youth player.......so mls it is a very weak league or just arrived to a bad place
I posted videos that had gone viral of him being a good human being to children and maybe a video of training that his team posted because we are fans here and want to see what he is doing. Villa fans like Duran - they want him to play and get more chances too. Celebrating that a 19 year old is showing maturity doesn't take any importance away from what they do on the field. Duran getting experience playing in the prem and contributing when on the field (which he did) isn't a bad thing and he scored with the NT when called from Villa so it certainly didn't hurt his form. Wherever he goes from here he is in great shape. You may wish he was still in Chicago, great. I respect that as an opinion. In my humble opinion, I'm glad he has had this experience and handled the circumstances with much more maturity than he did his early period in MLS. He has grown. Moving forward the situation at Villa is different than where they thought it would be when they signed him. They are much further ahead and now looking at signings they did not think they would be in a position to compete for in Nov. Depending if they pull them off, he may need to go on loan for playing time in Europe or they may view him as the starter for ECL. He'll be well set up either way. Ps. I never said he was lucky to be there. He earned it and his form when subbed on and his maturity handling everything that's happened will earn him more opportunities.
1. please don't say things I haven't said. im happy he leaves MLS, im not happy that he is in faking aston villa and he recived no minutes and didnt let him go to the world cup...that is very different. 2. you dont grown when you played 100 minutes when you were absolute starter before for two years, playing with professional players....quite the opposite 3. i disregard the objectives of aston villa or what they got....i only know that if duran will have the same roll next season he should goooo.....for me is clear that emery doesnt rate him and will ask another players in that positions as rumours suggest......so nothing to be grateful or pleased that he is there 4. if you only have to show a video of a foootballer being good with childer, as highlight of his season....is becqause wasnt good in what matters.....is like the video of alexis sanchez playing piano.
I mean I don't get why you guys were expecting..... he was ok in Colombia and promising in the MLS. A dumb EPL team over spent on him. You guys expect him to be Falcao? Jackson Martinez? Those guys were top scorers in their leagues. Hate on Mexico all you want but at that point most of our NT, Paraguay, Uruguay, Ecuador played in that league
I was expecting pretty much this. Duran is a Colombian teen. Most Colombian teens are not in the Premier league. He needs time to acclimate to the league, culture and style of football.
Great. Then we agree atleast that it would have been better he gets more minutes (all else equal) and it's a shame he isn't in Argentina at the cup. First, I think most people would be surprised to see an MLS or Colombian league player jump to start immediately at a Premier League team. I think most would view earning that move and then consistent minutes as a sub in a top five European league as progress at 19 years old. In top five leagues, even considering our full side who played more at his position? Borré about the same (with a few starts because his team was in two competitions), Zapata and Muriel injured most of season with mostly sub appearances (each had a few starts later in season when Lookman got hurt), with Suarez getting most minutes but in a team with a very different context. So as much as it's 100 something minutes - the more important point is that he played consistently and he did well in the moments he played. Id also challenge this point on growth. It can happen on and off the field. Colombia has seen many brilliant players stumble because they couldn't handle situations off the field when they went abroad. Duran handled a situation that would have pissed off so many (as it has you in this case) with absolute class and instead won over the fans. That's not progress on the field, but it's a good sign that he's a serious young man and for the long run for the Colombia set up, that's a good sign. I have said multiple times that if they sign more strikers he should go on loan. IMHO, at 19, I am very pleased he is at a Prem club, getting consistent minutes as a sub and under a great coach. He either gets starts next year or goes on loan in Europe - and I think either of those situations are better than if he'd stayed in MLS, so on the margins he is better off. Again, should he be grateful? No. He has earned putting himself in a solid position moving forward. He knows that he in Emery's position, just like you or I in same place would probably have kept going with the hot hand and starting Watkins because Ollie had a crazy second half of the season. Of course, everyone would rather we have tons of goal videos to celebrate. And in truth, he contributed to several scoring opps for Villa and started one that was key to a win that started their streak. For me the highlight of his season was that when he was called from Villa he was fit and sharp enough to start for Colombia against a WC qualifier and play well with a goal. As long as that's the case, then if he does stuff that's nice for the community off the field, is fine for me and better than a lot of what we have to read about our players.
Knock confirmed. Held him out of Villa's last game and the friendlies.
Duran is back in Birmingham for preseason with Villa. Hope we see him crushing pre-season to force a call on a Loan move or more prominent role in the side. Cam Archer just played in the EU U21 final with victorious England, so will probably be later arriving to camp and JJ should look to take advantage. Candidly, I am a little worried that JJ spent so much of the recent weeks on vacation and didn't seem to dedicate (at least publicly) time this summer to working his game the way Sini has been.
Aston Villa has a bunch of games coming up in the USA for their preseason. Hopefully he plays a lot of minutes.
and Bailey is in Gold Cup semis with Jamaica so he'll need rest after this tournament finishes up, so Duran should get minutes.
Still injured? Sin Jhon Durán. Lo mejor sería que lo prestaran, necesita jugar https://t.co/4EYxjq35OM— Juan (@jcpedrazam) July 15, 2023
No official comment from team. LME (espn analyst that is randomly a massive Villa fan) speculated on Twitter that he may not be match fit yet (not sure if that's from the injury hang over or him not preparing prior to pre-season). JJD missing pre-season minutes is a big miss unless he is in process of going on loan somewhere.
Hmm. Loan to La Liga approaching? 🟣🔵 pic.twitter.com/FWL4l2ooT4— Luis Miguel Echegaray (@lmechegaray) July 19, 2023
shabby that he joined villa and not benfica or porto.............because of this movement he played his world cup u 20 and there is nor certain about future.
I like Espanol, and he'll be competing directly with Martin Braithwaithe. This clubs also has Cesar Montes(mexico) who I value a good player and veterain midfielder Sergi Darder. This is not a bad loan.
Agree. I am hopeful it's Girona (who apparently just sold their striker and need a backfill) if he really is going to a Liga team. The Talksport rumor seems more likely smoke just based on JJD putting Barcelona as his location on IG on his post this morning, but the photographs he was sharing were outside Villa Park (if you zoom in). Guille Arango of Win Sports posted saying that the Talksport story isn't true and Villa gave JJD more vacation and want him back for the season - but that version of the story makes the least sense for everyone involved...
