Lack of British investment and influence in the 19th century/early 20th. USA and Spain more influential.

American sports more popular: baseball, basketball, also boxing.

In Cuba professional sports were banned in 1961. International football was not televised until 2010.

Professional football in the Dominican Republic was only introduced in 2014.

In all three countries football is becoming much more popular with the younger generation.
