nah, he's too young and relying on him after the season they had would be crazy. Watkins will be there too unless a big offer comes in.

Ferran Torres is not a 9 though, he's more of a wide player.

I can see him being loaned out to either a championship team or EPL team not typically in the top 10. As long as he gets serious minutes we need him elsewhere.

They could also send him to the team they bought in Portugal but I have a feeling you are closer.

Weirdly, they spent 18 million on him yet barely let him play. Even if he was supposed to be a future player, he deserved more shots in the last few months. And it's not like they have killer offensive players. Aston Villa can fit him, but he needs a coach to believe in him.

Disagree, Pibe - sliha. Ollie Watkins is the #2 scorer in the PL in the second half of the season after Haaland and Villa have been third best team in the league over that period too (rising from #17 to #8, just #5 a week ago). It's very hard to argue that Watkins should be dropped when he is on that kind of form.

It doesn't help that Traore returning from injury has been surprisingly efficient scoring and earned himself time too in very few minutes too.

Emery is doing remarkable work at Villa and he believes in Duran (and that he is doing the right thing BY Duran, by bringing him along slowly). If Emery had second thoughts about Duran he would have released him to the Sub20 since he has Bailey back from injury and Traore available.

That said, I agree that if Ferran Torres and Marco Asensio are actually coming in and they don't sell Ollie this summer, it's only going to get tougher for chances.

I accept your opinion; however, I think he could get more than 10-15 in several games so far. I didn't expect him to be a regular starter in just three months, but 20-30 minutes in almost every game could be a good start (and I believe he can contribute them).

I want him to play more too! But as a Villa fan this run has been absurd and every game has felt like a final, in the moment, I can't say Ive disagreed with too many of Emery's decisions.

I’m not too worried that he is not playing as I understand the situation that they are in

having said that, there is no evidence that suggest the manager believes in him. Him not letting him go to the U20 WC is just a manager being cautious as the injury bug can hit fast and can’t take dumb risks this late in the season with depth.

We really don’t know if Emery likes him or believes in him.

I agree with this, they bought him as a project and because their form was so surprisingly good they are chasing European football next year. Watkins is on superb goalscoring form, but he's also a grifter with supreme defensive ability as a forward, so even when they are ahead he's valuable. None of this is a knock on Duran, and I think a lot has to do with the situation turning out so well for Villa and Watkins being healthy and firing. Duran was bought as a long term investment, 20m for a young player is nothing to clubs like Villa.

It's clear that Villa have big ambitions, they lured away Barca's main sporting negotiator which is a big hint at the economic firepower they have. Torres can play as a 9 or wide, and I think Duran will do well going on loan, but also if they are in Europe they will need a much bigger squad if they want to stay in the top 10 in the EPL so maybe he'd stay. Either way Duran is still very young, for our own needs I hope he goes on loan because we need him playing because we need him now.

I see rumours of emery lookinf for playera and players in spain.

My sight is that duran was more idea of the board than emery.....

From what I understand, Villa tracked JJD for a long time before pulling the trigger and far prior to hiring Unai. However, Emery was supportive of the signing and liked the idea of developing Duran. To the extent that they decided not to call back Archer (on great form at Boro) and keep Duran with the side rather than sending him on loan.

The context though is that Emery's mission then was to get out of the relegation zone with really only JJD and Alex Moreno added to a side in the relegation fight when he was hired. Then they were suddenly mid table, and they kept winning and they were then in Europa places...and now the project is going so well that Barca's director is coming over and players like Ferran and Asensio are actively considering Villa.

A lot has changed and the team is far ahead of schedule vs. expectation.

Meanwhile, Duran on at 65th minute in huge game with Spurs right now. Vamos!

He released them a few times on the counter as they were absorbing a lot of pressure from Spurs. Had one particularly solid run that got the crowd excited but just too many defenders to beat.

That said he kept falling down and I wonder if he was wearing the wrong cleats.

I do not know if it was just because of the play, but John Duran does not seem pacey as I thought he was. He was out run by 27 year Eric Hojbjerg on a breakaway.

They don’t even call him up for this game but let’s keep saying emery is slowly making him adapt to the premier league . He missed the wc for this .

Technically he missed the U20 WC for this and to be called up by Lorenzo for Iraq and Germany.

Must have picked up a knock or something. Villa are in Europe and I'm sure he will be delighted.

Yeah Aston definitely did him dirty and didn’t put his development in mind

just were stubborn and kept him only to waste away on the bench
