I remember The Sparks, but not that song. I’ll have to check out more of their stuff. This past Tuesday night, less than 24 hours after getting home from Montréal, I went into Portland to see Gary Numan. I haven’t followed him in years. He was an ex-girlfriend’s idol. Anyway, he put on a fantastic show, as I expected. Really great sound, presentation, and the band were tighter than hell!
I've always wanted to see him, love to see artists who got their start in the 70's still out there wowing audiences! Seeing him with NIN looks like fun...
This is what he’s doing now. The guitarist and bassist are both wearing kilts. It’s a very weird but excellent show.
yeah, that DLR solo stuff was pretty bad, but I loved early VH and this Kinks cover in particular, completely shook things up in the late 70's... original Kinks version from 1964...
what a show last night, Robert Smith and The Cure still going strong, still sound as good as ever! this was a last-minute decision for us as we were flying back from Burbank yesterday after spending the weekend in Pasadena/Hermosa Beach, drove right to the ticket window at Shoreline, bought lawn seats for $35/ea (no additional fees)...place was as packed as I'd ever seen it (they'd even added last night as a second night after Saturday's show sold out so fast)... ...of course, it wasn't in SF, it was in Mountain View, @markmcf8, heads up, they're in Portland tomorrow night.
Hey there are bands out there other than these dinosaur bands from the 70's! I just found out about this one the other day, and they've been around for years, but at least they're under 70-80 years old. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea, but the musicianship and the energy is pretty incredible.
Here’s a young band. I think these guys are all in their 20’s. Maybe a couple of them have broken 30 by now.
Oh yeah, I know these guys - Swedish guys. Phenomenal! I thought of them too when I heard Knower. Knower does almost all original music though and kind of unconventional harmonies sometimes. Dirty Loops is more known maybe for their amazing covers.
They do both of course, but yes, they got popular on interesting covers. Really talented musicians... and that bass tone!
Yeah, and no singing on that track, but the keyboard player is a ridiculous singer with a seemingly unlimited high range that doesn't sound like falsetto.
Not my cup of tea, but I think some folks here might be into this. Ricky Astley and the Blossoms formed a band to do Smiths covers: https://www.nme.com/news/music/rick...t-set-interview-morrissey-johnny-marr-3459852
In honor of this evening's match against St. Louis City, here's a 2011 video clip of Jake's Leg, a long-running Grateful Dead cover band in St. Louis. I saw them many times while in college four decades ago at a now defunct dive bar called 20 North (Vandeveer), and they're amazingly still going -- with a gig tonight simultaneous with the Quakes game.
