Things Miami- way aren’t great: Miami’s season: From getting Messi to getting messy.— OnlyPunsCEO (@MarknessVisible) April 23, 2023
https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/chicharito-sounds-off-something-needs-to-change-for-la-galaxy It's not looking good for LAG right now. Would you trade for Chicharito?
NO, NO, NO, NO, NEVER. Shame on you for putting that out into the Universe. You know how close Pablo M is with the Universe.
I didn’t realize things were so heated in Canada Club statement.#CFMTL pic.twitter.com/bQOrWSFVQc— CF Montréal (@cfmontreal) May 10, 2023
Rapids player Max Alvez accused of participating in match fixing: https://www.espn.com/soccer/colorad...-suspends-max-alves-amid-betting-probe-source I've been an MLS fan for almost 20 years, and can't recall any other match fixing incidents in that time, but there must have been some. Is there an incident I'm forgetting? Web searches this morning are only turning up results about Alves.
Our own ex-RSL player Gustavo Cabrera was suspended for life for match fixing - national team games for Guatemala.
I found this story interesting and the fact that he is still playing and there was really not that much of a hullabaloo over it that I could see. We talk with a Brentford fan all of the time and he didn't seem to bothered. I guess the EPL taking betting shops off the front of jersey sponsorships was enough. Looks like you can almost cheat with impunity and still win the title. Weird. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/s...gambling-allegations-spanning-FOUR-YEARS.html
I didn’t see anything about him cheating. He broke league rules re: gambling; but that doesn’t necessarily mean he cheated or that the betting impacted his play on the field. The slap on the wrist implies these were minor infractions that are nowhere comparable to match fixing.
No but it’s a horrible look but I believe gambling in the UK doesn’t carry the negative stigma as much as it does in the US.
I’ll agree with that, given that imo many of the gambling laws here are draconian. Let me add that I do not gamble. On anything . Ever. But, take the NCAA; if a collegiate student athlete placed a bet on the Kentucky Derby- - Woe Be Upon That Student Athlete. Strip him/her of their scholarship. My God…a Podunk U football player placed a bet on Go Fishin to Show in The Kentucky Derby…the entire credibility of collegiate athletics has been compromised! Ban the team from post-season play for 2 years. Reduce the school’s athletic scholarships….etc… Yet, Whoaa, an Oklahoma State football player for the second time beats a coed to a pulp? No prob. Nothing to see here.
Looks like San Diego is in. Also looks like deep pockets. https://www.goal.com/en/news/mls-expansion-san-diego-mohamed-mansour/bltcd4ff9f0d225fe45
San Diego is a big market. Of course it is going to be more expensive AND lucrative than Salt Lake or even Charlotte.
Things are heated in LAG Land This is as REAL as it gets… Chris Klein has to go. Unacceptable result. @LAGalaxy #ACB #LAgalaxy #MLSSoccer pic.twitter.com/muJLwrd4J7— Darryl Satcher (@DarrylSatcher) May 28, 2023
After the match a few of the players were having a ‘conversation’ with some passionate supporter group members. I think it was a combination of them apologizing for the poor play, but also defending Klein. The SG folks weren’t buying it.
There’s been a fairly long campaign (at least 2 seasons?) of LAG fans boycotting and/or protesting LAGs awful run of results, much of it directed at Klein for shitty fan relations, league discipline for roster non-compliance, and poor player acquisitions. It is hard to argue that Klein hasn’t been a key part of their decline, although Vanney seems to be somewhat problematic too. Both with strong RSL ties to boot!
Looks like AEG finally started paying attention to the boycott and results. They’ve parted ways with Klein. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/la-galaxy-part-ways-with-club-president-chris-klein
I would have fired him the day he said he would resign if the team doesn’t make the playoffs. That organization, with its resources, should never have making the playoffs as the bar of success.
The Galaxy - with Klein at the helm - made under-the-table payments to Christian Pavon in 2019 and were hit with major sanctions when it all came out in late 2022. The fans went from upset to irate, especially since the sanctions include an international transfer ban for this summer window. He was suspended for the primary transfer widow and the team was fined $2m in various kinds of dollars.
The athletics article about TFC jusf further reinforces the theory that Lagerway was the true godhead of the rsl glory days bill manning sounds like a complete idiot in the article
