I see reports that he and Busquets have signed for a club in Saudi Arabia. All but officially confirmed.
I read that Alba is considered too in that deal. Why not also get D. Alves, Puyol, Iniesta, Valdes, Pique, Pedro and the rest of Barca 2009 players off retirement while they're at it?!
Would've to bust out Alves from jail first. BREAKING: La Liga has APPROVED FC Barcelona's viability plan to sign Leo Messi! Javier Tebas has given the GREEN LIGHT. @CatalunyaRadio Apparently Saudi deal is off because of this.
Messi's father has come out and said that the news about it being a done deal with Saudi Arabia is false and that a decision will only be made after the season is done. Even if there was a verbal agreement, I wouldn't expect them to admit it. However, it would make no sense for Messi to commit so early if indeed he wants a Barca return or to play somewhere in Europe. On the other hand, if Busquets and Alba's renewal were somehow indeed tied to Messi's return (as some reported it), then you could it as Messi not returning to Barca.

i don't believe that was the reason. In 1980 I bought a book (Soccer: The World Game, by Martin Tyler and Phil Soar) that mentions the 'new' FIFA World Cup trophy was designed in 1971 and could not be won outright. Afaik, the original Jules Rimet trophy won permanently by Brazil in 1970 wasn't stolen until 1983. So I'm unsure of the original reasoning why FIFA decided the current trophy could not be won permanently.

I looked at that article. Pretty odd for Ligue 1’s website to post that but I guess they’re bracing themselves for PSG without Messi. Coupe de France without Messi the last 2 seasons: 17-1 goal differential vs a 3rd, 4th, 5th tier, & amateur side. Those beatdowns in which PSG could’ve used all U-20 players and still won makes a huge difference in those stats. Also Messi was sorely missed in their home tie vs Benfica this year, which affected the final group standing. Anyone watching PSG’s matches knows Messi is far from the problem. I personally am looking forward to not watching anymore PSG.
ATTENTION EVERYONE I have deleted EVERYTHING in relation to that thread whether it contained offensive content or not. I apologize for feeding the troll post initially. Part of that is on me but his replies were uncalled for as usual with the personal attacks Some banter is fine, but personal attacks are NOT ALLOWED HERE whomever it's from. Let's move on.
It seems that there is no return (well i don't expect anything more). Question now is will he accept that big offer from Saudi or continue his journey in Europe with another club (much less money).
The latest with Messi is that he will make a decision very soon about his future (possibly next hours). As I've said before, he doesn't want to be in the same situation as 2 years ago where he is waiting for Barca to see if they are allowed to sign him or not. If it's to be believed that he wants to come back, the main obstacle is Barca moving all the pieces necessary to fit him. It will take time and a lot of things have to go right with regards to players leaving. The club just doesn't have the time to complete the moves necessary if Messi wants to resolve this soon. I've heard that La Liga wouldn't even allow him to play for the league minimum as there is a system of putting a value on a player's worth, but I haven't been able to confirm that. L'Equipe came out saying today with a wild angle that he will go to Inter Miami but will be loaned to Barca (I'd assume for a single season). That seems a bit out there, but I wonder how that would look financially for Barca. It would kind of make sense if Inter would use that as a way of convincing him to play there after next season. If he is close to making a decision, and he isn't going to Barca nor Saudi Arabia, he surely is keeping his cards close to his hand. Inter Miami is obviously there and I've heard that some EPL teams have offers on the table although I really don't see him going there.
I still think he’s coming home .. Xavi has been quite vocal about the Messi situation and seems very optimistic
BBC documentary Lionel Messi: Destiny https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001mp3x Can be watched here: https://footyarchive.com/shows/588086342
Only Vicinius has more succesful dribbles in top 5 leagues than Messi at 36, although Messi's is still far more efficient: Vicinius 108/295 37%, 32 games Messi 100/179 56%, 31 games
I watched it last night. Only thing strange about it is that the BBC couldn't get Messi for even one short interview. Has Leo given any interviews about his WC experience?
Latest today is Barça is teamed up with Inter Miami on a joint plan to sign Messi The partnership between the two clubs reportedly proposes that the Major League Soccer side sign Messi before immediately loaning him to Barcelona, allowing him to play one final season for the his beloved Blaugrana before heading off for an international swansong with Argentina at the 2024 Copa America, which will be hosted in the United States. The deal will have the dual benefits of allowing Barcelona to circumvent the strict financial restraints they face in LaLiga while also giving Inter Miami the perfect platform to parade their new signing... https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_...barcelona-hatch-plan-thwart-messis-saudi-deal
