I went ahead and started this, to announce:
The Little Pea earned a red card tonight and won’t be making the trip. Which is good, because I was a bit worried about him with Glad out. Also, this might result in fewer LAG supporters at the match.

(How do I make this thread a sticky?)

Even though Pea boy isn't going to be there that doesn't mean that things will get easier for RSL on Wednesday night.

In fact it might make things tougher. Sometimes teams get better when they lose their "best" player and the rest of the team steps up to fill the void.

I still think that this should definitely be 3 points for RSL but when your team is still closer to the bottom than the top of the table you have to be ready for anything.

Very, very, curious to see how this all plays out.

I finally get to watch a live game again! Maybe I won't be jetlagged and can put some thought into the match before it starts.

I guess there's some kind of drone show after the game. Might be the only thing worth watching for the people that go.

For me, the games are worth watching for the most part. There’s a dud here and there. But even if we got clobbered I probably got to see some good soccer from the opponent. We are staying for the drone show. I agree that it should be worth watching.

How the hell did he pass the test on the field?

It's close enough to halftime so we'll just wait until then.

I assume the concussion sub wouldn't matter when it is used?

If that was the unbiased doctors recommendation they should be fired
It doesn’t matter when the concussion sub happens

I think it is more that the protocol sucks. This is not unique to RSL. I can only remember a handful of times where a player has been immediately subbed out in MLS.

I think the league needs to hire an organization affiliated with the guys doing all the CTE research to have one among a pool of physicians in MLS cities available at games to do the protocol, and not the team’s doctors. There’s just too much bias/incentive, even if well-intentioned, to keep the player on the field. Basically, they’d part of the ref crew.

What you’re proposing is how it works. The guy who checked macmath was a league doctor, not a rsl trainer

Only a Mod can make it sticky, so you have to wait for Ismitje to do it. You can @him, but he’s usually on top of this kind of thing.

    Not really what I’m saying…

I get that it is similar, but these guys should be affiliated with a group expressly concerned with CTE in sports, not just a “league certified” doc. By hiring an agency whose interests are a bit critical of the sport, we can have greater confidence in their judgment. All due respect to the doc, it clearly isn’t working well.

I figured as much and fully agree. I don't get why he was allowed to stay on only to be subbed at halftime. I'd get if it was a precautionary thing, but seeing he's officially out with a concussion something feels off.

It's far more difficult to judge with goalkeepers because you can't pull them to the sideline for a longer check the way you would for field players. And I have no suggestions for how you would make that so.

I don’t think it should be that difficult. If you need a longer check for a goalie, the game should stop for the 5+ minutes needed to do a thorough check.

Or allow a substitute goalie until the check is completed. If the starter is removed after the check, then continue as is. If the starter is ok, then let him come back on without it counted as a sub or double-sub.

I could see temp sub being abused in certain situations. I'd just prefer the longer check and add it to the end of the half. It's not like this is a thing that happens incredibly often.

Home game against a not great team missing a key player. Road match at Austin Saturday.
I think it makes some sense to go for 3 points in this one and rest some key players Saturday in anticipation of playing to win the USOC match next week.

    My XI:
    Beavers
    Hidalgo Silva Vera Eneli
    Gomez Jasper Ruiz Sava
    Bertin Musovski

I'd expect Rubin, Chang and Ojeda to get at least 30 minutes each tonight and for them to start on the road Saturday. Damir and Brody are my other two preferred subs. I think this is a decent balance given the significant schedule congestion.

Good first ten minutes of us on the front foot. One dangerous chance but it feel to Vera who got his own legs crossed. Ah, well.

I don’t know why he didn’t try a header there. The ball was perfectly placed for him to direct it with power.

Silva's jumping block of Puig's shot there worked, but seems like the kind of wild challenge that leads to unnecessary cards. Or ejections.
